"what is with everybody and standardizied testing...did i just get lucky and find all the loopholes?"

AP tests are not standardized tests. They're tests you can take usually your senior year of high school (or it could be earlier), which many colleges will give you college credit for if you do well on them (which is very nice, to start off with some credit). In other words, they are in no way standardized or required, and they cost a bit of money (at least, when I took one it cost like $75, but I got a 5 and got 7 credits at my college so it was quite worth it). You would only want to take one if you at least somewhat know the subject.

My teacher just gave a practice test for the AP Euro test. I'm not really worried about it. My DBQ/FRQ skills are pretty downpacked, so I just have to review for the multiple choice part, which won't be too hard. I just need to revisit the Renaissance, the Reformation and everything else we covered at the very beginning of the year.

If anyone is taking AP English/Comp, AP Latin Poetry, or AP American History... what do you think of the classes? I will be taking them next year, possibly with AP Statistics as well (I listed it as 2nd alternate for my 6th major).

You don't have to be a senior to take them, as my school started offering APs sophomore year. But I started senior year.

None of you whining people have to take Regents if you're not in New York state. [face_plain]Those tests alone determine whether you graduate or not, and last year more than 50% of high schoolers failed them, thus weren't able to get diplomas later on. [face_plain]

    I just noticed this:

"But I gotta say the teachers at Bronx Science know what they're doing (mad props to Mr. Reutershan [calc], Mrs. Williams [micro] and Mrs. Heenan [American])." --BaronFel88

I really agree. Though I've not yet had those teachers, some of the ones I've had are really good.

    Hey,
It's great that everybody is taking these tests (I did - Blagh), but I also recommend that you check to see if your preferred colleges will be accepting them.I'm on the way out of college - in the "transition loop", and I've been hearing about all the quals that incoming freshmen have to have. Starting last fall and more next, a majority of the major universities won't be accepting them as credit anymore. Because of the widely disparate quality of material being learned, schools have been having to yank AP kids out of classes, transferring them into intermediate ones. It's been a major drain on schools and students.
That being said, it's still good to take the classes - they do give you the edge over the other kids as far as getting accepted. Good luck!

Yup. I'm a sophomore, though, so the only AP I could take was Euro or World History.

I took AP World History last year and got a four. This year I plan to take Micro and Macro Econ and Physics. Anyone else out here on the West Coast feel that we get screwed over when it comes to AP testing? Since most East Coast schools seem to start in August where as we don't start until September.

After taking Maskin's class freshman year, an AP the next year was one of the last things on my mind. But Mr. Lang's class rocked.

I took lots of AP tests in high school. They aren't as hard as you think they are. You tend to psych yourself out about them, but then you get there and its not so bad :)

If you study hard, you will do well. I got 4 on US History and 5 on US Gov't, Economics, and AB Calculus. Good luck, and I'm sure you'll do fine :)

AP? Pah! I took duel enrollment and ended up with more college credit hours than anyone in my whole school. I started College as a Sophomore.
Got rid of in HS and used for college:

    - Freshman English I & II
    - Humanities I & II
    - Astronomy and Astronomy Lab
    - Speech

That?s 18 credit hours of free college. I ended up with 32 but the other ones I couldn?t use. They were lame duck college classes.

    Beat that AP nerds! :p

Last year I had AP Euro and AP Computer Science A. Got 5s on both of them. I was disturbed at how pathetically simple they were.

I'm expecting 5s on the US and Computer Science AB tests this year.

The only AP test that really worries me is Spanish 4, next year. I heard it's murder... it might ruin my chances for a sweep of 5s. I'm just hoping to get a 3 on that one. :(

So this year, I'm not really concerned about my APs. What does concern me is my IB Physics. I don't really like that class, so I don't spend effort paying attention. I also don't agree with studying: so since I didn't get it the first time through, I won't get it. I'm hoping I can wing that one...

I took AP French and US History last year and got a 3 on French (good considering that I just randomly took the AP because I was good at French, not because I actually took an AP course... I was in the level before AP, and I studied a lot on my own. :p ) and a 4 on US History, which was a meh class for me...

This year, I'm taking Calculus AB, Computer Science A (was going to learn material for the AB myself and take that, but I got lazy and decided not to), English/Comp, and Physics (dun dun dun). Physics is going to be the hardest of them since the other classes are really easy for me. Physics hasn't been so bad for me, though... it just requires actual thinking and stuff. :p

    EDIT: Typo

EDIT2: CS people - anyone know what types of questions there might be on the Marine Biology Case Study thing?

The history tests worry me. Everything else I shall pwn.

We've been reading a lot of actual AP essays in class for the English Language test. Some of them were written as if the author was totally stoned and they still got a 9. Amazing.

I expect to get 5s on the ELA, English Lit, AB Calculus, and Physics tests. I made a 3 on my World History test last year (ugh), and I'm probably going to get a 4 on the US History, simply because I worked harder at it. English, math, and science come to me with no work at all on my part.

The tests are easy if you've worked hard the whoel year and review a little bit to refresh you memory on earlier topics, imo. I got a five on the American History and English (Writing and Comp. maybe?) tests I took last year.

I remember taking the AP US history test two years ago, which I got a 4 on. The thing that sucked about it was that we had to take the test in May and in June we still had to take a final exam.

I got 5s on: US History, European History and US Governement

I unfortunately got a 3 on Environmental Science. Stupid trick questions. [face_plain]

People, stop complaining, I have 6 and you don't hear me complaining.

I'm taking 6 too, and I'm complaining. Way too much studying!!

    I've taken 4 already:
    Euro-4
    Biology-5
    US History-4
    Latin-2

    This year I have:
    English
    Macro Econ
    American Gov
    Calc BC
    Stats
    Latin

I'm going to fail the Latin again; my teacher, well, isn't teaching. If I pass the others, though, I will enter college (which accepts all APs) with sophmore standing.

    AP tests are easy

If your teacher doesn't suck. I'm going into the US History AP test with knowledge from a teacher that taught us about General Custard. And she was serious.
