Being ten, Fic-Gift for jcgoble3

Being ten

“Garen, don’t push me,” Obi-Wan tried to turn in the confined space that was his for the moment he had to stop because a Dressellian foot – correction feet – were wriggling this and that way.

“I try not,” Garen began.

Obi-Wan had to move forward, caught between his two friends. Now he regretted telling his friends about the visit to Serinka and the dough – rising in a bowl – that the cook had shown him. Reeft – forever eager to get his stomach filled – had guided Garen and him to the nearest grid leading to a crawl-duct.

“Don’t squish Kenobi,” Reeft giggled. “I am trying to open the grid. We are at Serinka’s kitchen and there, look…”

“Only you can look Reeft,” Obi-Wan avoided again the feet of his friend.

“You will love it,” Reeft pushed frantically with his hands at the grid cover that was separating him from the delicious smelling pie on the counter. Feet moved again.

“Got you,” Obi-Wan grabbed a left foot before it came into contact with his jaw.

And the unexpected happened.
A grid cover gave.

Reeft tumbled down followed by Obi-Wan who let go of Reeft at the last moment.

Hummph

“Owww,” Obi-Wan barrelled down, hitting the racks with pots and pans first, the counter after that, swishing with his flailing legs bowls and more kitchen utensils on the floor and following those and barely avoiding a sharp knife but ending up with a fork in his left thigh.

Garen – further away in the crawl-duct – had heard the noise, crawled carefully forward and saw the two.

Obi-Wan was staring at the red stain on his trousers. Silent.

“I have what I want,” Reeft wriggled towards the pie, hands outstretched.

Garen plopped down on the counter.

Reeft reacted unexpectedly and landed his right hand in the middle of the pie. “Ouch.”

“Ouch Reeft,” Garen saw the hand coming back with a gleaming object. “What’s that?”

“My surprise for Master Kaagi Adin,” Serinka rushed in and snatched away the pie. He observed the trio, the wreckage in his kitchen and continued “and I can see that you will need his services Obi-Wan.”

“What’s that?” Garen kept staring at the object in Reeft’s hand.

“Ah that,” Serinka began to laugh. “I was planning a surprise for Kaagi’s 80th birthday.”

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’ a wolf whistle came from the object.

Reeft startled first but began to laugh when he pressed again the button on the object. “Can it be put back in the pie Master Serinka?”

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’

“I will make a new pie but after taking you to see a healer,” Serinka said with a serious tone. “Your flying around in my kitchen could have ended in a disaster. Come Obi-Wan.” And turning to the other two before leaving his kitchen with the silent initiate he said “Don’t let that pie go to waste.”

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’

Reeft busied himself with the wrecked pie and gave Garen a small piece to share.

Serinka and Obi-Wan were returning. The latter was sporting three tiny stitches and a bacta-patch on his left thigh as could be seen through the hole in his trousers. Obi-Wan was smiling and holding in his hands three large plastform syringes filled with water.

“Before you start that fight, you can help me,” Serinka whispered.

Obi-Wan nodded. He had heard Serinka inviting Kaagi to come to the kitchen and restaurant.

A pie was made and bowls were cleaned by Reeft of course. After getting the pie out of the oven the gleaming object was put in the middle. Eight candles – one for each decade – were aglow on the pie. And they gave fond memories for Obi-Wan who had a pie with ten candles on his 10th birthday celebrated more than three months ago

Serinka and initiates were ready when Kaagi Adin came in.
The three initiates were hiding behind the counter, plastform syringes at the ready.

“Hmm a nice surprise,” Kaagi blew out the candles, cut the pie and revealed the gleaming object. He laughed and pressed the button.

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’

Kaagi saw the mischievous smiling eyes of Serinka.

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’

And he got a red face when archivist Jocasta Nu entered with a haughty look on her face.

‘Whiep wheew whiep wheew’

Nu left as fast as she could.

Three squirts of water ended up on Kaagi’s black hair.

“I can feel that my gift is really appreciated Obi-Wan, Reeft, Garen,” Kaagi grinned. “Being ten you are allowed to play. But you are growing fast. Come and take a piece of the pie.” He began to distribute the pieces.

Three initiates nodded.

Obi-Wan savoured the taste and began to dig in his pie when he saw the eager looks on the face of Reeft. He liked being ten.

Thank you! That was fast!

I love young Obi-Wan, and always imagined that he would have little escapades like this as an Initiate.

The idea of Reeft and his stomach getting him into trouble is wonderful! And of course Reeft gets to eat pie twice, so he won't learn.

Exactly my same thought when I realized that I missed that story here... almost missed it. Thanks for making Obi-Wan fun and less stiff!

 

Tee hee hee! That was really cute and fun!
