I don't think many people thought the movie would end with him still being on the planet.

It was never emphasized in the article what will be saved for later movies.

They only commented on that their sources told them in VIII and IX there would be a Leia/Luke reunion and a Leia/Kylo scene. It didn't specify what episode those scenes would be in.

Thank you. I am reading some of these posts like wuuuuuut? The article even said it was unclear when or how those scenes would happen. They said VIII and IX supposedly have two crucial scenes between Leia and Luke and Leia and Kylo. People jumped to the conclusion that it inducates a certain order. In fact the colon suggests otherwise - these movies: contain these two scenes. Any good writer (and i assume Hollywood Reporter journalists fall in that category) knows that if you are to prescribe a certain order to a previous phrase you say "in that order" or "respectively." But they didn't. Rather they noted it was unclear.

I used to think this way at first, but even before Carrie passed, I reached a point where I found her performance appropriate for the character's age. So I am being honest with myself, and I politely do not agree.

Carrie was in Ireland, so perhaps Leia goes there?

I also didn't get the impression that the Luke/Leia scene is definitely in VIII while Kylo/Leia is in IX, though that would have been my guess anyway.

    Ugh. This is so sad.

but than that makes me wonder why Leia didn't go with Rey in TFA? But then would go in VIII?

does she go in VIII because she find out Kylo is there as well?

I don't care if CGI isn't perfect, give me all the important scenes that were planned.

Was there any physical evidence she was there or was it just hearsay?

I'm convinced Kylo is afraid he can't withstand the test of facing Leia. Han gave him a wide open shot at coming home with him, and if Kylo wanted he could have come along with Han and murdered them both together in whatever super-secret private reunion they had. He didn't. Kylo despised Han and he wants to slaughter Luke, but he seems extremely reluctant to face his mother. Putting off that confrontation until late makes sense, especially if the plans is to make that the moment he breaks and repents his crimes.

And such a story wouldn't have to diminish Leia. Her story could have developed in parallel to Kylo's, building up the tension over three films until their Emperor's Throne Room-esque meeting. That probably won't happen now, but the filmmakers can't be blamed for misfortunes outside of their control.

Both Mark and Carrie posted these pictures while Mark was in Ireland. Local people also reported that Carrie was there, but I don't think there's any evidence.

    Carrie absolutely was in Ireland.

What somebody tried to debunk was whether she was spotted on set or not.

Except non-perfect CG is incredibly distracting. Especially in emotional scenes. They'd have to pretty hecking good at their job to properly animate the emotions of Leia reuniting with her son.

All I heard was that someone said they saw her. That doesn't sound very absolute to me.

    Anything will be distracting.

Leia's funeral or her funeral mentioned at the opening of the movie: people will be reminded of Carrie's passing, some will start crying, and be distract for some minutes.

CG Leia: people will know it's not the real Carrie Fisher portraying Leia and will be distracted for a moment.

Recasting Carrie: everyone will notice a woman who's not Carrie Fisher pretending to be Leia Organa. In my opinion, the most distracting option, and will certainly take me out of the movie.

An Irish newspaper also reported that she was in Ireland.

    I don't care [2]

I'll take it over killing her off screen, recasting and rewriting pivotal scenes.

We'll have to agree to disagree then. I'll take whatever option makes for the better movie, and I don't think a CG face is that.

Those "American Gothic" images are hilarious. Thanks for reposting them MattOrgana. They really do almost come across like siblings.

I agree with you, and I think one other person on the thread does as well. We are obviously a minority though. LOL. Oh well, I'd have a beer with ya!

I totally agree. There are few on screen siblings whose actors look and act like real siblings, and Mark and Carrie are definitely one of them.

What makes me believe there's not gonna be a recasting is what Mark said in Celebration 2015. When George told him about the new trilogy, he said that they wouldn't recast him if he didn't come back for it and they would "write [him] out". I assume this applied to the Big 3 too.

Of course, this may be a different situation since we're already in the middle of the chronicle, but it's worth noting.
