Lit A/V Clone Wars Continuity Discussion (Spoilers Allowed)

Lucas never intended Grievous to be the super-effective Jedi destroyer as depicted in The Original Microseries, nor did he ever plan on Aurra Sing from TPM to be a Force-user, nor was he the one to conjure up a backstory for Ventress. He might not care all that much for the alternate universe that exists outside his films, but he surely isn't contradicting his previous home-grown material.

 

Yeah; sadly, Lucas wanted Grievous to be this slimy villain, mainly a coward who tends to run away.

 

Then he should've never had his licensing company put THE AUTHORIZED CONTINUATION OF THE LEGENDARY STAR WARS SAGA on Heir to the Empire. Lucas has made certain people, places and events off-limits before. He needs to make up his mind if he wants to make all the non-TV/film "meaningless" or keep it.

That would be wonderful if he didn't care about the EU and didn't use one single instance from it. The problem is that he's been strip-mining out-of-context pieces from it for reasons unknown. I mean, why bother? Why not just create your own Twi'lek homeworld, or Sith trainee working for Dooku? Who is this appealing to? Kids could care less and EU fans are just irritated.
I know Lucas' feelings on the subject - I carry it in my sig. But I'll be glad when the series ends and the EU can proceed with clean-up duty.

Not only that, but the EU has always been advertised as the "official continuation of the films." If the EU is 'fake,' then I've been defrauded. If that is the case, I want every single dollar I put into Star Wars books and comics back.

I've also heard something about Aurra Sing not being a Force-sensitive any longer. Can someone clarify that?

 

Did they say on the panel if Dathomir was going to be featured, or are we just conjecturing from the reuse of that Sith Witch concept art?

At the time, I got from it that Darth Maul and his brother were also from Ventress' planet, but I went into sort of catatonic shock for most of that clip so that might not be reliable...

 

Lucas has always been clear concerning his views of the EU:

George Lucas has always viewed the EU as some sort of separate universe from his own work, and that he has never been obliged to conform to the separate universe. While Lucas?s previous fixation with the ?pivotal? points of the SW Saga has resulted in minimal problems in the past, it?s only understandable that more toes will be stepped on now that the Creator is interested in the less ?pivotal? aspects of the Saga, which had been solely the province of the EU.

Ergo, every part of the SW universe is ?real? so long as it conforms to Lucas?s vision. If something in the EU doesn?t conform for whatever reason... then that?s just the way it is. So what if Lucas changed his mind a few years ago and decided to expand his universe himself? He owns the SW universe, and so it is the responsibility of the EU to conform to whatever whims the Creator has.

 

Please let's don't drag this into another canon debate that we've covered in this thread a hundred times now.

 

Being from Dathomir won't affect her backstory significantly? Well, I can see it bending but not breaking her established continuity, but this is just the trailer - I have a feeling that the entire "being found by a Jedi" backstory is going out the window.
I was more intrigued by Lucas apparently stating that the Dathomiri aren't necessarily Force-users...

Let's just make TCW and all of its associated continuity clusterkarks a separate continuity and be done with it. While the continuity remains contiguous.

I think LFL would rather stubbornly have this dis-continuity than have two continuities.

Would things truely be better off if CWAS had a seperate continuity from the rest of the EU? A good portion of dedicated fans would still demand retcons that allow for C-canon to remain consistant with CWAS...
