while still fuming over TCW news and in despair about continuity, something else:

CAN TCW show a young Ackbar? (and yes I want his first name to be "Admiral" :p) that might be good if they do not screw with his homeworlds backstory etc.

    [face_laugh] :D Awesome. :D

    I'd love it. ;)

And... Maul was a Dathomiri man-slave?! This is hillarious and brilliant. Katie Lucas FTW. :D

Continuity on Dathomir has been shot for years, so it's not as if any changes here will be a new annoyance - and remarkably, it looks like Ramon Bachs' red-robes-and-tattoos Nightsisters redesign has been used faithfully here, right down to the Zabrak blood implied way back at the start by Yongti's hairline...

    [face_mischief]

Of course, I've always seen those Nightsisters as an affront to the original Dragonhide-armor-and-rancors non-Nightsister civilization and their no-tattoos Palpatine-black-robes Nightsisters... but all that goes to show is that continuity gaffes of this sort are NOTHING NEW...

... and thankfully the place is large enough to place them on a different continent, unless they do something hillariously unnecessary to mess that up... :p

    In which case I'll laugh. :D [face_peace]

Wait WAIT...Dathomir is a Planet. Thus it is pretty big, the society surrounding the Force Witches of the Singing Mountain clan might not be the culture of the entire planet. The Signing Mountain Clan might be like Earth's China.

It is a Big Culture and it influences the development and philosophies of its neighbors. But it is not the whole planet.

Already established by the Clone Wars CG. Dooku planned on supplanting Sids once the war was over and create a better Republic. It was the only reason he as a dutiful Jedi did not reveal the Sith to the Council.

Not that this means jack, the CG being EU and all..

Both Episode 1 Journal: Darth Maul, and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter has Maul know he came from Iridonia, and that as far back as he could remember, he had been with Sids. The EGttF has Palp's holocron avatar outright state that he took Maul as an infant from Iridonia. Short of the trite "Palp is a lying murglak"-retcon, the discrepancy will be hard to fix.

Of course Palp had to lie about Rattatakomir both to Maul and his own holocron. Wouldn't want anyone else to find an enclave full of Maul warriors. Well, except Ventress apparently did, and easily. Pfeh!

Maybe Maul did come from Irdonia and his brother immigrated to Dathomir? I only hope the story is that easy to retcon.

I agree. I think that TCW is a joke personally because it has crapped on the continuity of the previous material about the clone wars so the only way that I can really comprehend it is by saying that the movies and TCW is one continuity and the movies and everything else is a different continuity like how DC and Marvel have their different things. I will admit that I don't watch the show on a regular basis, but the stuff seems ridiculous even though I was okay with some retcons at first until it got out of hand. I honestly didn't know about Grievous's new backstory until people brought it up earlier which is an awful idea. I just don't keep up with the show that much. The news of Season 5 supposedly being worked on also is not good because the clone wars is supposed to be 3 years and not go on forever. When is Ahsoka Tano going to bite the dust anyway? Anyway, just like with the Big Three, George Lucas is using the clone wars as a cash cow which just plain stinks.

The show itself was incredibly vague when dealing with Grievous's past, which gives plenty of room for the old one to exist.

It may be a bad idea per se, but when compared to idea like Maulkiller, it actually looks fresh and original [face_not_talking]

Would his brother even matter, He would jsut be a force sensative Iridonian...at best, jus another iridoninan or zabrak at worst.

Why even Give Maul a brother, it makes as much sense as giving Jabba a son.

Why resurrect Maul millions upon millions of times in the comic books? Why fight a holo-Maul in TFU? Why have the One Sith in Legacy use the same style of body tatoos as Maul?

^ That was the most pointless fight in TFU,

If you want really cool fights like maul, Higher Ray Park or Tony Jaa, Donnie Yen (Who I am sure speaks flawless English) and have them choreograph fights.

Maul was Bada--ed because Ray Park knew what he was doing, not because of the writing.

    What were they thinking...

I know the "Should Darth Maul have died" post is popular... but this...

The Universe got a lot smaller...

Don't you know the EU better than that? "Admiral" is his rank. His first name is "General." [face_mischief] :p

How can you make a fictional universe smaller by giving some deceased bad guy an expanded family? At least CWAS didn't opt for the cliched "clone Maul" option that the comic books enjoyed to use.

aah right... though it'd be funny to have him named Kettch Ackbar for real.. especially if some not knowing Wraiths joke about Kettch in the upcoming WS book :p

Looks like we already have a continuty problem then-that comic defenitely shows Palpatine recuiting Mual way past infancy. Not to mention there weren't any other Zabraks around...

Or they were captured and ended up as slaves on Dathomir. There is precedent-one of the Vos stories has a bunch of slaves captured by the Nighsisters for some excavation.

I only hope they leave the backstory vague like Grievous' and don't set too many things in stone.

Because, other than the continuity issues, this arc should be a fanboy's dream. :p

But how would he know he is Darth Mauls brother - the events of Labyrinth of Evil show how Sidious made sure he covered his tracks well. Surely he would just think his brother disspeared... not became a Sith Lord...

People know that a Force-sensative Zabrak died on Naboo ten years before the Clone Wars and that he was a suspected Sith Lord. Perhaps word of this speculation somehow reached the brother?

May I throw in some facts from the TCW Character Encyclopedia, which apparently wasn't bothered to check yet?

    First this:

"Rumour has it that she trained as a Padawan, but left the Jedi and is now there sworn enemy."

    Straight from Aurra Sings entry.

    Follow up:

    "Homeworld: Unknown"

This originates from Asajj Ventress's entry - which may or may not suggest that Jason Fry already knew what was coming up when writing this guide.

I totally concurr with what Tzivzzt said a few posts earlier: Please wait for the show to air before judging and grudging. It may turn out to be not nearly as bad as rumoured after getting tidbits (!!!) of information.

Now having seen the full season 3 preview, it is confirmed that they are on Dathomir and they are Nightsisters. When asked if Ventress's eu past would be referenced, Filoni gave, essentially, a wait and see response, so that being a part of it somehow isn't outright ruled out like Aurras force sensitivity.

On the subject of the use of EU, he says he tries not to use EU elements if he can't do them justice as he doesn't want to unnecessarily complicate the continuity for no reason (ie: Durge) unless George tells him otherwise ( ie: Dathomir)

I'm usually either optimistic or uncaring of the changes that crop up in TCW and whatnot (continuity has a way of untangling itself in the long run) however some of this stuff made me raise an eyebrow. It certainly isn't as bad as it first sounds, but GL certainly does his best to make it seem like he is relocating the Zabrak to Dathomir and cutting out Sing's backstory. Of course it's mostly because he doesn't seem to give that much thought to the EU beyond a check of the holocron etc. but it does tend to lead to fan outbursts when stuff like this crops up.

The thing that bothers me is that should these issues actually become major ones (and by all means they could if GL decides he wants to make Sing not using the Force a fact in the show etc.) there really is no need for it. Afterall it's a big Galaxy and GL seems to make a point of underlining that it is his vision, or world, primarily. If that's the case surely he could just create his own version of Dathomir? His own female bounty hunter?

I get the EU tie ins, but sometimes it does feel a little unnecessary to be honest.
