I don't think either Westerns or wuxia have a monopoly on "good guys wear white, bad guys wear black".

Some Alderaanian fashion from Princess Leia #5

I probably could cut some of it but Leia's speech is just sooooo good.

A lot of those ships feels REALLY out of place in Star Wars. Even after taking the PT into consideration.

I know this is not the tread for ships talk but since derailing is a tradition I am proudly take part in I have to ask: why do you think that? Personally the most un-SW part of them is how sketchy they are since most art SW with ships are rather detailed.

They flow too much. Imo. Not even the Mon Cal ships are that rounded and... elegant? I don't know. It's like a lot of ships in TOTJ or Jedi Academy: Leviathan, which went the opposite direction and seem like hunks of scrap metal with odd bits sticking out here and there. Even taking into consideration the Naboo/Nubian ships, I think those ships in Princess Leia look un-SW.

I like her crown and hair but find the rest just okey for me. I would have prefer if they had used something more medieval (to go with the warriors’ knight like armour) or used court dresses from an non-European culture as inspiration. But I’m not saying her current desing is it’s bad.

Oooh, this will serve as inspiration for Minerva's wedding dress ideas.

The skirt looks like a bunch of SWTOR shoulder plates. Cool design; Not too SWy but still cool.

It looks like a combination of the attire you'd see on the Matrix and an anime.

I get the sense that Luke may sometimes toss his cloak over his shoulder, making it like a shawl.

Looking over those cans from the Leia comic, I suddenly realized that Evaan has worn outfits from both Luke and Leia's wardrobes.

I hope, if she appears again, she's wearing Han's jacket from TFA.

The bit about uniform design is interesting, yeah, though it feels a bit like cherry-picking in some regards. And I can't tell if the second part contrasting Death Star/Starkiller Base gunners is focusing on the set design (which is semi-legit), or the gunners' clothing, which I'm really not seeing.

    You mean those outfits?

Overall I like the design, even if I am in period where I would have preferred something more inspired by the noble clothing of the medieval era (both the European and Asian medieval times) and/or Africa. When it comes to the colour on the other hand… Hay! Rian Johnson! David Lynch and Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV called! They want the colour of their court back!

Or to put it another way: I don’t like the colour choice and want to see more rich colours.

Thanks for the link, agree that it do raise some interesting points.

I personally agree that there is ‘nothing “cool” about these outfits’ but I would also ad that there is nothing silly about them and to me something that makes SW to what it is is the combination of cool, normal and silly designs.

Enough time passed to ressurrect this one for more discussion of GFFA style and fashion. Plenty of comics and other art to deepdive into once more, anybody up for it?

I think this thread could use a second resurrection attempt! :p

I've always thought that (in)formal/business clothes were fairly simple in the GFFA: boots, double-breasted silhouettes, high collars, never any neckwear. Basically people like Bail Organa in the PT. But the KOTOR comics present a highly interesting counterexample.

Obviously very Earth-like, but not too much as to feel weird. Are there any other examples of fashion in this style? I wonder what the proportion of the open-cut, neck-wear-clad suits are to the Bail Organa style suits. Maybe they all died out by the OT, but it's pretty clear that fashion exists independently of time in SW for the most part.
