Has anyone already talked about the Official site having it's updated The Clone Wars chronological viewing order include the episodes this novel was based on? I found it interesting the events from Son of Dathomir apparently take place in the middle of Dark Disciple....[face_dunno]

I am much more interested in this than I am in Dark Disciple.

Well, here's a far more plausible romantic partner for Ventress; shame it's a prequel.
I'm still of the opinion that a Rattataki having hair is as weird as a Human having tentacles.
My headcanon for now is that the hair is a fungal parasite that affects her mind, forcing her to abandon Lassa so it can attempt to mate with Vos' dreadlocks. I'm guessing they replaced his original, real ones immediately before he appeared on TCW.
It's deeply tragic, but it would explain a lot.

I look forward to the inevitable comic series where she fakes her death to escape it, and embarks on a mission of vengeance to eradicate the fungal conspiracy*, conveniently keeping her out of the GCW.

    * What did you think some members of the Imperial court had under those hats? And there's this.

Well, this is 2 arcs in one book. One was a season 7 arc, one was season 8. That means Dark Disciple part 2 will be the latest (and perhaps only) season 8 content of the show we'll get.

Check out the TV "arcs that were not" thread. They've got a pretty good estimate of what episodes would've comprised the rest of the series (based on numerous comments made from writers, and info from panels). We pretty much have a rough outline of how seasons 6, 7 and 8 would've played out without the cancellation. Also, the show was pretty much written to the end as well, despite cancellation.

I personally dislike the "baldness as indicator of evil" aspect to it.

Yeah, I went off about that a year ago and it still annoys me.

I guess it can be taken that way, but i've never really viewed it as such. Same with Bane and Malgus even. They were all just villains that happened to be bald.

It's just that Ventress doesn't look the same with hair, whether or not she's an outright villain anymore. She's lost her iconic look.

Can you imagine Vader without his helmet or Palpatine in purple or green robes?

    That explains, well, everything.

Sorry, Katie, I love Asajj too...but she needs to be bald.

I'll throw you guys an excerpt from my upcoming interview with Christie Golden for the sake of it...

There were indications of time passing between certain episodes, so I am fairly certain this was intended to be a long-playing arc that interspersed with other storylines.

Could be a female version of the "Beard of Sorrow" trope:

    http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BeardOfSorrow

    - Ventress has lost interest in some things - and has quit shaving her head.

And Vader, and Maul. Funny how so many SW villains also "happen" to be bald. Almost like it's a trope or something.

That's better than "Bald people are bad and I'm good now." Still not a fan though.

Maul's entire race is like that though, so I wouldn't say that counts. And Vader was burned alive so you know, he actually can't grow hair anymore.

It's not just villains in general being bald, though, it's that they're directly tying whether Ventress has hair to her moral state at the moment.

...instead of, you know, whether she just wants hair or wants to be bald.

They not only tried to give some Deep Psychological OhTehDrama! reason for a damn hairstyle (head style?) but the "reason" was lame instead of workable.

She was partially bald when she was a Jedi Padawan and had weird Hitler Youth style hair when she was quite young and now she just opts not to buzz cut the sides of her head but does elaborate dye jobs . So even with this emo-punker hair style, Filoni's in-universe explanation does not entirely work. Her Sith tattoos are also pretty damn close to Maul's and Jerec's markings/tattoos as well. If she really wanted to erase her Sith past she should've went for tattoo removal, as no matter how much she spends on her hair those Sith incantations and symbolism are still always gonna be there and be a part of her. But the Nightsister arc pretty much removes the tattoos from the Sith and places them more just part of the weird stuff of Dathomir males and females , and its unclear if they're tattoos for the males or just natural skin patterns. The Pau'an Inquisitor brings the tattoo back as more part of the Sith affiliation(looks modeled on the Secret Apprentice Marek and Darth Desolous both from TFU) and the new male Inquisitor may have a facial tattoo as well, so not sure what gives.

Maybe tribal-style facial tattoos just mean "bad people" in Star Wars.
