    Guys,

    Who is your cape source?

I just acquired a cape, gloves, codpiece and robe set but I find the cape is quite heavy (wool with some kind of satin lining) and the wool robe (again with satin lining) is very warm. The costume is essentially pretty well made and good value, but when I see Hayden's ROTS robe flowing with the fans (the famous gray background shots) I kind of wonder if there is a lighter alternative that doesn't look cheap.

I already have a body suit that is some kind of quilted satin that looks like leather from a distance. It's very comfy and cool, but that benefit doesn't help as the robe is trapping quite a bit of heat.

Wow. I finally found some dupli-color gunmetal spray paint. I think sometime in the spring i'm going to give my helmet a full repaint (this time with a more proper color scheme). Probably not going to upgrade the lenses, and probably not going to repaint the dome, but we'll see how things go.

Are you using the stock Rubie's cape for your Vader?

T177 is the model name. It was a good thing I got it when I did as there were only two cans left at my local Canadian Tire!

Well I actually got rather anxious to see how proper gunmetal would look on my helmet, so today I remasked off the black sections, and painted on the gunmetal. its currently drying off, but the results look quite stunning!

the DP T-177 isnt exactly accurate as i have found out a while back from someone who posted the place where the actual black and gunmetal colors come from.

but its still a nice shade to use. my rubies is repainted with t100 and t177

    Hey,

Who makes your Vader cape? I purchased one made out of cotton with a satin lining, but I'm finding that it's extremely heavy.

How is everyone doing weight managment here?

My cape is just cotton. Made it meself. Granted its somewhat see-through, but you need a pretty strong light to make it rather noticeable. Quite frankly, id rather have that than really heavy material wearing me down.

Mines a Rubies. Not the greatest material (polyester) but looking at the seams on the Rubies and the seams on the promotional RotS pics they appear identical and it flows nicely. I was however disapointed it wasn't lined, but that does make it lighter.

I made mine my self using a satin like material for the outer cloak and a darker liner material for the inside.

The inner cloak I used a black cotton material and sewed it to my height.

looks lots better, now as to when hes gonna sellem, those are the protos. and as far as i know we still get a previous rots glove buyer discount, who got the first ones from him.

Just a little thinking I was doing...Any Vader'ers out there ever run into the issue of escalators when trooping in the suit? I haven't done much vader'ing out there yet, and its a rather daunting thought that has been sitting in my mind for a while. I mean, just the thought of the cape material getting stuck in those gaps sends chills down my spine...Sure the simple solution would be avoid them like grim death, but has anyone ever had to deal with such a situation...Im curious to know how that would work out.

    Cheers

Maybe you could have some one hold your cape up for you as you boarded or exited an escalator.

That way you don't have to worry about it getting caught and that is a nasty thought of getting it in the stairs. Or could you have some one remove it for you as you go up & Down???

Yeah, thing is that my cape is not easy to remove, not without removing the helmet. Believe me if an elevator or regular stairway was also available, i'd choose those. My idea is to clasp my hands behind my back and sort of collect all the cape material behind that, and raise it enough so that the material is well off the ground. Seems a good alternative when its the only option.

If you want to see the differences between starting and ending Vader projects check this out...

    [image=http://vaderman.sytes.net:8080/img/vader_ev.jpg]

Shows my absolute first Vader costume, and what Ive got now (although the helmet on the new pic has the old gray paint I used, its actually gun metal now).

Technically these points werent really part of the same project since about year 2000, i gave up on the Vader costuming. My re-emergence to the sport came around fall 2006. So its really been a two year project starting when I got my Rubies Vader helmet and said to myself i wouldn't make a full costume....yeah right!

Kinds of reminds me of my starts, with this cheap Hasbro helmet... :D I had the same ;)

I am setting up everything for my second Vader right now: ROTJ for display purpose only. JB helmet and armour are already mine.

I want to get it as accurate as I can.

Here a pic of my trooping costume (currently on display):

Looking good Rogan. That helmet I had was actually WORSE than the DP standard. the entire thing was cheap flexible plastic. the lenses were just clear cutaways, not to mention the dome was WAY too small..

Heres, a Pic i found online of what it really looks like:
