Darth Who? (Was: Jacen Solo: Darth-You-Pick)

No offense to any of the contributors to those nominees but I really don't like any of them. First glance and I just thought "What the hell?". Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I will almost definitely accept the name and like as this series progresses but at the moment...eh. The only one that particularly stood out to me that I did kinda like was Paxis, so we'll see.

Congrats to all the contributors, as it must be quite an honor to get your names nominated!

Instead of "Darth", put "Lord" in front of the Sith name to see how it sounds.

Forget the meanings, does the name work when it is spoken?

Lord Acheron --Just doesn't sound right, which means this one will win.
Lord Caedus --If pronounced 'Kay-duss' then this name could work.
Lord Judicar --Never gonna happen, unless fans have a meltdown.
Lord Paxis --Reminds me of Raxis-Prime, the name Paxis sounds like medicine.
Lord Taral --If pronounced 'Tuh-rahl' then this is another one that sounds good.

Cae-dus if phonetically similar to Ja-cen, so I am not sold on that name as much as I am sold on Darth Taral.

I'm not too thrilled either with the selection of names we have to choose from. Caedus sounds the best, but if Jacen is choosing his own name I don't think its meaning is in line with his view of what he is doing. Judicar is more in keeping with his philosophy but it sounds ridiculous. Lord Judicar? I don't think so. Acheron and Taral I have no clue about and neither sounds particularly cool. So that left me with Paxis, it sounds pretty good and it refers to Jacen's delusionary belief that he is bringing peace to the galaxy.

 

Now, see, this is where learning actual latin in actual school will get you when you learn it solely through the medium of welsh.

Anyway, the way you describe it (which ironically sounds more welsh...so lord knows what crack my teacher was smoking, awesome as she was), still sounds cool and I still stand by my vote. GOOD LUCK!

Out of the five I have to say I like Darth Paxis the best. There is a kind of Duplicity about it with it's meaning of "To be Peace" yet being a Sith Name. Jacen has lied to himself enough to think he is really doing all of this for the "Greater Good". I like it.

Darth Taral....I just don't get it.

Darth Caedus...not sure what it means if anything. Sounds decent.

Darth Acheron - Sounds too much like a Video Game. It is the plane of "Lawful Neutral Evil" so that works on that level but I just don't know if I like the sound.

Darth Judicar seems to make the most sense but it is simply too much.

Nothing that inspires you to associate any of them with the Darkside.
They would have been better off naming him Darth Wuss, IMHO.

 

Sorry to repeat myself, but I still think that Jacen should call himself...Darth Veritas (Dark Truth). Jacen has been preaching how there is no light side dark side, but rather "the" Force. That being the case, he is the possessor of the truth, the Dark Truth.

 

The Acheron is one of the six rivers of the underworld in Greek mythology. It's name means River of Despair. I like it as a Sith name, but probably not for Jacen, unless something happens in Sacrifice to plunge him into despair, like Allana or Tenel Ka dying maybe.

I'm probably going to go with Caedus. I just like the way it sounds.

Meh. I liked Judicar. Sounds like it stands for something.

 

I like Taral but none of them really got me excited about hering them.

 

I like Darth Caedus because it sounds like a good Sith name. It goes along with the historical names of the Sith Lords that came before...... Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious, etc.

My vote went to Darth Paxis.

 

I don't want to come off as a hater -- particularly as i didn't submit an ida of my own -- but seriously, these are the "best" names of those submitted? Really, LFL? I find it hard to believe that of all the submissions (thousands, i'd imagine), that these are the final five. They're not horrible, but ... i mean, come ON. Judicar? Paxis? Really, LFL?

I'd definitely have to go with Caedus, as Darth Caedus sounds/flows well enough; though Taral isn't bad either, it doesn't flow as well IMO.

 

I'm not a member, but if I had voted I would have submitted Darth Corros. As in Corrosive. Duh.

As it is, Caedus has my vote.

I can't believe this is what are options are for Jacen's Sith name. None of them sound cool at all. If these are our options I just assume the author's ask George Lucas to personally name Jacen as Lucas seems to have a knack for it.

 

With one of those names he's going to be killed at the end of the series.

 

Darth Acheron. Hands down.

Considering much of the Star Wars saga deals with Greek lore, I find this name to be a very clever choice.

It's not Darth Solus, but for me it's the next best thing.

 

Just voted for Caedus, i think it sounds the best. Taral and Acheron are cool too. I don't know about how Judicar and Paxis sound, but their meanings work best for what jacen thinks he's doing.

 

Damn, no Solus, I liked that name soooo much.....

But well, let's pick the least worst (no offense to anyone)

 

If it's got to be Acheron or something, can we please at least spell it differently? Or make it remisniscent of, but not actually, Acheron. Archeon? Axiron?
