Gambon was good in everything I’ve seen him in. To me he’s much more than his Potter role. I just watched Sleepy Hollow again which he’s excellent in. I can’t remember the last new movie I saw him in.

This morning I’m thinking about him as the narrator for the Greek Myth episodes of Jim Henson’s The Story Teller. He had the unique hook of talking to the audience while trying to escape from the Labyrinth of the Minotaur - which created the effect of the viewer being trapped with him and he’s telling these stories to pass the time on your adventure. You’d never know what situation he and his mullet dog would be in when the episode cut back to narration.

 

Gambon also played a Scrooge-like character in the Doctor Who Christmas Special "Christmas Carol." Actually, he had a dual role, playing the character's father as well.

 

I love that one, but my mind always goes to The Life Aquatic’s “Let’s not **** with Larry Amin,” a totally random line that he just bites into with such gusto.

 

The first film I ever saw him in was The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, & Her Lover, but I've seen him in many films. He was always great.

 

Not really. My Gandolf was John Huston, and we lost him quite a while ago.

 

William Squire, who voiced Gandalf in the Ralph Bakshi 1978 movie, also left us quite a while ago.

 

I mean, it’s true, we’ve not lost any Gandolfs.

Damn it. I mixed up my Gandalfs and Dumbledors reading your post. Huston is an animated Gandalf voice.

For me Gandalfs seem like natural candidates to play Dumbledors. But I don’t think it goes the other way.
