What's the fastest anyone has read OOTP?
I read it in a single day, when I first bought it.
    Couldn't do it now.
Not enough time and way too depressing,

There are people who can read long novels in just a matter of a couple of hours, so probably one of them.

I don't know about the fastest ever, but as I have mentioned before, my mom and brother both got to read OotP before I did because reasons, so I ended up reading it in one day late into the night just so I didn't get spoiled. I also ended up doing something similar with DH, since they both ended up with hardcovers almost immediately, while I had to wait for the paperback.

Got DH a little bit after midnight. Read it on the car ride home. Read it late into the night, finished late afternoon that day.

OOTP I admit is a bit hard to read nowadays.

Angsty overemotional Harry can get a little tiresome after a while.

    Question:

How everyone liked Cursed Child? Any one lucky enough to see the play?

I began re-reading the 7 books the week before the Cursed Child came out. Today I finished Book 6 and began Book 7.

For some unexplainable reason, this time reading Dumbledore's death was the saddest.

And for the first time reading the series, I finally "get" Ginny and her character, and how she's a good match with Harry. The subplot of Neville's subtle hero's journey is much clearer reading all 7 in order too. As well as tons of details connecting everything together, showing how far in-advanced JKR planned some things, makes me appreciate the series even more.

It's amazing how I interpret the books differently each time I read them, but this is the first time I'm reading all the book in order over a little more than a month.

    * The first book was good still but so brief... I kind of wish Rowling re-wrote it in the style of her later books

    * The second book used to be my least favorite, then I really liked it... and now it's back to my least-favorite again :p

    * The third book is so charming and magical, I still can't pinpoint what exactly makes it that way.

    * The fourth book used to be my favorite, then it became my least favorite... and while it's not my favorite again, I'm ranking it higher-up again! So much elaborate world-building in this book, and I forgot about so many enjoyable subplots that the movies cut or changed.

    * The fifth book is the most imposing-looking to read... and the first 100-200 pages are definitely tough. But once Harry gets to Hogwarts, his angst really subsides for a while (this was also the book where Voldemort was most poking into Harry's mind, and when Harry felt most cut-off from adults). Upon re-reading it this time, I noticed how much detail is given to this school year. You literally know what Harry and friends did almost every hour of every day for the first 2 weeks of that year... it was really the first time JKR delved all the way into life and classes at Hogwarts. You can truly immerse yourself in Hogwarts in this book. And Umbridge is a fantastic villain... and now with my experience work at schools, suddenly scarily more realistic-feeling and similar to people I've worked with. The moves does it no justice.

    * The sixth book is a remarkably "clear" and enjoyable book. It's the closest Harry ever had to a "normal" year at Hogwarts (except for Draco's two foiled attacks on Dumbledore). Except for Snape, the teachers and classes are enjoyable. Harry is on the strongest terms ever with Dumbledore, who finally begins to let Harry in on the secrets. There's no villainous new characters, just Draco and Snape as adversaries, and they don't cast a huge ominous shadow over the story. The conflict is clear, with Voldemort's Death Eaters out in the open again. It is a very refreshing read, especially after Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix, and Harry being level-headed again (after book 5's angst) corresponds with Voldemort using Occlumency against him. I like that we have a least one book of Harry having a somewhat-normal year, except the ending of course. And like I said, for the first time, Dumbledore's death really got me.

So for Pottermore users, they've finally got a Patronus quiz up. Though unlike the wand and school house quizzes, this is a timed quiz and less vague about personality, having you go with gut/instinct questions. Mine is a black stallion.

    https://samkriss.wordpress.com/2016/09/13/jk-rowling-and-the-cauldron-of-discourse/

Fun read but kind of wrong-headed. Rowling is just going through the usual PR/branding exercises. One way to keep the brand relevant is to go through her peculiar social media game of reading current events through the HP books. Dumb, harmless branding for pop fantasy literature with a global reach. Doesn't really deserve taking the time to define deconstruction.

I have to admit, even though I'm not really a fan of the franchise, that Pottermore seems really cool. Reminds me of when I first found Wookieepedia.

I was kind of hoping that the patronus quiz would be...more in depth? It was like 5 questions of "choose between these 3 things"

I got a St. Bernard, which definitely doesn't fit me lol

I was definitely glad to get something dog-related (it just wouldn't have been *me* otherwise), even if it was a mongrel. :p

    My Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
    My Ilvermorny House: Thunderbird
    My Patronus: Mongrel Dog
My Wand: Willow wood with a Unicorn hair core 10 ¾" and Slightly Yielding flexibility
