It was the worst in terms of leaving out key plot details.
Yes, both of those books are behemoths, and should have been split into two films like Deathly Hallows was.
That's what I meant. They don't change things, and what is there is pretty spot on. They just have the disadvantage that all book adaptations have, which is that a lot gets cut out. But that's all book adaptations. These books are just bigger than most, so the missing details stand out more.

HBP had that ridiculous scene in which Bellatrix and Greyback burned down the Burrow, which was nowhere in the book. I thought that was a pretty big change.

Other than that I agree, and I don’t think the movies need to be remade, although I’ll probably check out the HBO show.

Some of the HP books are way too long and should have been edited down.
The movies were very good at cutting out a lot of the overwritten excess and just sticking to the basics plot.

And some things they did better, the fight between Voldemort & Dumbledore in the movie is way cooler than I remember the one in the book being.

Order of the Phoenix is absolutely better as a movie than the bulbous novel

That's true. I'd forgotten about that scene.

Still, the Potter adaptations are a lot more faithful than usual for Hollywood. I'm actually surprised that there seems to be so much dissatisfaction voiced about them now.

The only way to make Snape work is do a different take than Alan Rickman, or else the actor will be consistently compared and probably disappoint.

Besides, Professor Snape is supposed to be about 29-31 years old in the first book/movie. Harry's parents died when they were about 19-20 years old. (And I don't know if it's in the book description, but almost all the chapter illustrations with Snape in the American novels usually show him with a goatee).

They also have an obscenely good cast, I can't think of any other movie series that has that many elite actors in supporting roles.
That elevates those movies above your average adaptation and is something any TV version will likely struggle to replicate

HBO quality could rival the movies.

What is "HBO quality"? WB owns HBO and WB owns HP so I feel when WB made the movies they put forth the money to make quality movies. I assume they'll put forth the money to make a quality show, but I'm not sure how it being HBO would increase that quality? For example, if WB pays more money for a specific writer or director that normally produces quality work, that doesn't mean they will do the same for Harry Potter.

Not meaning to pick on you; I guess I don't understand your statement.

    ***

Side topic, but similarly, when the news reports said that the show was moving from a "Max Original" to an "HBO Original" - what does that mean? From what I undersand, WBD (Warner Bros Discovery) has an app called Max that contains "HBO programming" with other assets. So what's the difference with what goes in front of the name "HBO vs Max" original when they're both owned by the same company?

Like the Nissan Motor Co. makes a brand of Nissan vehicles as well as a line of luxury cars with the brand named Infiniti. So is HBO supposed to be the luxury brand of Max entertainment?

The difference is branding. HBO has put out quality shows for decades, Max (Cinemax) hasn't. It was my biggest problem with them dumping HBO from the title. Max doesn't mean anything unless you think the average viewer will automatically assume its going to be great because it is short for maximum. Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Wire, Sex in the City were all HBO shows that were successful critically and commercially. I think the network wants viewers to know they can expect the same kind of quality with this new Harry Potter show.

Yeah they just announced that The It prequel and Potter show switched from Max to HBO which basically most importantly means they'll be streaming when they air on HBO instead of 3am est drops. It is a perceived quality branding thing (too late to change that Penguin show or Peacemaker from Max) Also different non USA liscence agreements

Not without that level of casting

There are almost no major British actors of high level "thespian" standing that didn't appear in those movies, apart from Sir Ian McKellen & Sir Patrick Stewart. Who is around now that could be used in a TV series?

    Kate Winslet?
    Benedict Cumberbatch?
    Tom Hiddleston?
    Dame Judy Dench?

I can't think easily think of many others

Who would you cast that could do Hagrid as well as Robbie Coltrane?
HBO do excellent shows and I don't doubt they would write a good adaptation, but they'll never beat that cast no matter how big the budget is.

Another reason not to do the show.

Do the Marauders. Do the Hogwarts Founders. Leave Harry be.

If Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as Voldemort, not only would he have been in both the Harry Potter and Middle Earth franchises (John Hurt, I believe is the only actor so far who can make that claim, having played Ollivander and voicing Aragorn in the animated Lord of the Rings), but he would have portrayed the Dark Lord in both (Sauron/the Necromancer in The Hobbit movies and then Voldemort).

Eh, there’s such a thing as overexposure. And I while he wasn’t bad as Smaug (I’d barely count him doing anything for the Necromancer role), and he was pretty good, it’s not like Smaug was the Gollum of the Hobbit movies.

I like it when new actors are discovered. Or who have been around but finally get the spotlight they’ve earned. When you already have a franchise that will draw in people, you don’t need big actor names nearly as much.

Just started playing Hogwarts Legacy for the first time recently. Still in the early stages of the game, but really enjoying it so far. Beautiful scenery.

Has HBO Max finally recruited a new cast to play in the new official Harry Potter reboot series?

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions came out a few days ago and is a Day One PlaystationPlus "free" game. I am only about halfway through the tutorial as I keep trying to remember how to play Quidditch but the flight controls are pretty smooth, lots of character customization options, and the first tutorial is set at the Weasley house, and Ginny walks you through it. She is very understanding if you want to try again.

Oh and the Snitch is only worth 30 points now, instead of 150, so that's good.

So when an actor dies they go to heaven in costume?
