Do we boycott Twitter? UPDATE: VOTING PERIOD OVER

Or at the very least if we do have a presents on social media just use Bluesky or Mestadon.

although I don’t think we need to presences as the forum rarely ever goes down. Without us being told in advance.

 

This was way more one sided than I thought it would be. I would think the ban ASAP would win, but not as much as it is currently.

 

No one uses Mastodon. Not even the creators of Mastadon use Mastadon

Users appear to be very JCC centric right now BUT I can't really see Literature or similar having a major burning need to link the latest Author tweet into a thread so thats possibly understandable.... Unless Alston is having a major tweet out on the state of SW books obviously

I think the vote would be way different if we were also not allowing screenshots.

 

If it’s ruled we have to use Twitter screenshots, that’s fine (won’t be difficult to do), but doesn’t that sort-of defeat the purpose of not allowing embeds? If one doesn’t want to continue to embed for themselves, fine, but the option should still be there until BlueSky (or something similar) is a viable alternative.




Also, we really are getting a system upgrade? Figured that was a ruse/joke.

Sure, but won’t have much of an actual impact to Twitter.

I'm mostly ok with no screenshot exception. I just don't want people to be edited for, for example, posting something from a site that's unfortunately still news relevant sometimes, or posting a screenshot taken by a third party (e.g., a post by a Bluesky user, a news org).

 

Also again I was reminded when I tried to click on the twitter link at the top of the site how ****** twitter is.

if you don’t have an account you cannot view anything on that site 95% of the time. Take away the fact he’s a Nazi. It’s just such a poorly designed site now.

sure screenshot will take some time to get used to, but it’s better than sending any unneeded traffic that way. And again it’s not like us making a stand on this issue means much, but it’s much more the principle of it for me than it is the JCF making an impact on twitters traffic.

also If I can figure out how to take a screenshot and upload it to this site then everyone else can. I am as technologically illiterate as a Gen Z can be. And even I figured it out.

Oops! I wanted to mention this but I forgot. I agree with @EHT that the link to the JCF's Twitter account is problematic if we're going to be banning embeds – or even the existence of the account IMO. I can understand the need for social media so that people can contact mods there if they can't access the forums for one reason or another, but I feel that it would be hypocritical to ban Twitter embeds on the boards but keep an account active on the platform.

 

Right, yeah, I meant even still having the Twitter account, not just the "linking to it" part. It doesn't really seem like we need the Facebook account either, for that matter. Especially since @A Chorus of Disapproval will be personally contacting each user if there's an outage.
