I thought that after Ian in ROTS and Liam in TPM, Ewan in ROTS was the next best perf in the whole series. Really it could be said that the whole film, maybe the whole series, hinged on Ewan's ability to really sell it at the end with Anakin, to make the audience really feel all the pain and frustration and sadness of losing Anakin to hate. Ewan absolutely nailed it and I couldn't picture another actor doing it better.

I agree, Ewan did a fantastic job...at least in ROTS....but, with Ewan, we are left trying to explain how Obi-Wan manages to age 40 years in a 20 year timespan...

You try living in the desert for 20 years without a good moisturizer.

Ewan was perfect as Obi-Wan. Grief and the desert could have easily aged him 40 years in two decades.

I think Ewan's portrayal was perfect as he successfully brought to light Obi-Wan in his prime. I think Ben's sit down with Luke on Dagobah after Yoda's death was the moment that made me long for these prequels anyways. Or at least the Duel. Ewan's shining moment in the PT is when he tells Vader, "I have failed you Anakin." Ewan's portrayal up to ROTS was to me the one positive aspect of the otherwise contrived storyline. He carried those movies.

Ewan's age at the time of filming ROTS: 33
    Obi-Wan's age in ROTS: 38
    Time before ANH: 19 years
Alec Guinness' age filming ANH: 62
    Obi-Wan's age in AHN: 57

I really don't think this takes that much suspension of disbelief in a galaxy that's already full of it.

(Please correct me if any of these figures are wrong, I'm going from memory here)

Ewan was a fantastic Obi-Wan he really portrayed a young Alec Guiness really well, I am defenitley happy that George choose him for the role of Obi Wan.

Yes, I thought he was awesome as Obi-Wan, and Ewan is my third favorite SW actor, right after Ian and Alec.

He did a great job at portraying a young Alec Guinness, especially in ROTS.

    ROTS= Ewan's best performance IMO.

I always thought Ewan was one of the best things to happen to the prequels.

I think Ewan IS the best thing to happen to the prequels. He, more than anyone else, had the most intimidating role, and he filled it gloriously. Obi-Wan's character progression becomes the superglue that holds the two trilogies together. The best overall actor in the PT. I wish he had a bit more to do in TPM than simple stand on the sidelines saying "Yes Master" and "No Master". In a perfect dream remake, Mr. Binks' considerable screentime would be given over to Ewan/Obi-Wan and almost everyone would be happier.

As for why Sir Alec/Old Ben both looked older than their age in ANH? Some people age faster - in RL and on film. Like Beru and Owen.

I must say that I agree. Long live Ewan McGregor. Did you know he's gonna be in that movie Valiant? It's that CGI pigeon thing. He plays the main character, Valiant. If you watch the commercial, though, it sounds absolutely NOTHING like Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Ewan was the best performer in the PT, I really disliked Ian's performance in ROTS it was too overthetop for me. And I could really ignore him in the other 2. I did have a problem with the aging of him, Owen*Beru, and Anakin. Why the heck does he look in his late 50's at the end of ROTJ when he's only 44 or 45? Anyway Ewan is great in every movie Ive seen him in, first time I saw him was Moulin Rouge great voice and a real hottie. He was also good in Young Adam andhe was naked.

I didn't like Ewan's potrayal of Obi-Wan, I LOVED it! I honestly can't imagine anyone else in the role, let alone anyone doing a better job of it than Ewan McGregor. It was very easy to see Ewan as a younger version of Alec Guiness. Ewan also made PT Obi-Wan different than OT Obi-Wan, but similar enough that it was easy to tell they were the same character. I thought it was brilliant work on Ewan's part.

Ewan's using his real voice in that, not his impersonation of Alec Guinness voice.

Ewan was a fantastic Obi Wan Kenobi. BTW, stress can make a person look a whole lot older than they really are.

Now that we've already seen his portrayal, it's hard to believe that Obi-Wan could have been anything other than what Ewan depicted. It'd be like asking if Alec Guinness made a good Obi-Wan Kenobi after he's already established what Obi-Wan Kenobi should have been...

I think Ewan is one of the best actors in the PT and he totally nailed Obi-Wan's character. However, I think he also has one of the worst lines in each movie.

TPM: "You were right about one thing, master. The negotiations were short."
AOTC" "Good call, my young padawan!"
ROTS: "Wait a minute, how did this happen? We're smarter than this!"

I don't know if it's the delivery or the writing, but those lines are really embarassing and not up to Ewan's usual standard.

Ewan is the man!! He absolutely nailed the persona of Alec Guinness, while adding his own influence to the character. He is one of the best parts of the PT!!

I think Ewan did a great job; it is never easy to fill in for a previous actor. Let alone someone of Alec Guiness? stature. But he played the part very well. With the PT we had really no idea what to expect and to see jedi moving at speeds we never thought possible brought a whole new meaning to the way we thought about SW. Ewan I am sure with lots of studying and such was able to not only make the character of Obi-Won Kenobi his, but also pay homage to its first portrayer by giving us subtle glimpses of the Obi-Won we first saw in A New Hope. I guess what it boils down to is were you convinced, I know I was.

Ewan McGregor is just fantastic as Obi-Wan.

I do remember watching ANH and thinking 'Wow, isn't that Ben dude just so cool?', mainly because the Jedi seemed so awesome. Ewan completely fulfills what I had hoped for in the prequels because he has portrayed Obi as such a fantastic Jedi - brave, loyal and both the kickass fighter and cautious negotiator. I suppose it is this balance that makes Obi so realistic.

Thanks Ewan for such a rockin' Obi-Wan Kenobi! =D=
