    So who is Ms. Flood?
She called the Doctor a clever boy. It couldn’t be… could it? :p

That was our first thought when we heard it. And apparently she's dressed exactly the same as Clara's last appearance as well. However much sense that doesn't make, of course... :p

The fourth-wall breaking has only ever been Pantheon-related thus far however...

Her family is ordinary, and not related to anyone familiar.

So why could she create snow?
And why was Sutekh so interested in some regular person?

Also, why did the Daleks not appear in any way?
Aren't they contractually obligated to appear at least once every series?

I guess it worked, I mean the way they resolve these things is always some sort of 'turning the baddy's power against them' type thing.

I was disappointed in Ruby tho, I mean she didn't really do anything, she was reduced to just asking questions so that we'd get the doc's ridiculously contrived explanations.

I mean, isn't that what companions are supposed to do?
They are the audience vessel, they ask the questions so the Doctor will explain what's going on.

    "Where are we?"
    "Who are they?"
"What is this, what does it do?"

well they were supposed to have come on from there, Rose would always have some input and bearing on what happened.

were we supposed to know who the woman and unseen baby was on that planet? have we seen her before?

Obviously, this two-parter was still years in the making when the episode Rose was produced and aired, but...

this quote by Clive seems to be retroactive foreshadowing in light of Empire of Death:
Clive Finch: The Doctor is a legend woven throughout history. When disaster comes he's there. He brings a storm in his wake and he only has one constant companion.
    Rose Tyler: Who's that?
    Clive Finch: Death.

In an interview, Louise Jameson (Leela) said that was basically the purpose of a Companion. But she said there are only so many ways to ask, "What is this, Doctor?" ("What is this, Doctor?" "What is this, Doctor?" "What is this, Doctor?") And I think it was Terrance Dicks who said the main requirement of a Companion was the ability to run and scream at the same time. These were all pre-2005 comments, though.

Ironic, then, that one of the best companions was Romana

The Doctor finally had enough of Sutekh to take the National Lampoon's Vacation approach in handling him.

I guess that's why it's called Doctor Who: Unleashed .

Thing is, most companions are just meant to be Humans and we'd likely spend most of our time running away screaming when with a time travelling alien encountering bizarre things on other planets.
Humans are squishy & weak compared to many aliens we see in DW, the idea is to represent what would happen if you went on such an adventure yourself. So the audience lives the adventure through the Human companion.

Obviously RTD & Moffat are fans of the "companion is secretly special & holds the key to saving everything" arc and that's fine but it's been overused in NuWho.

I'm all for a kick-butt action companion, but they should be someone like K-9 or an established combat capable person like Jack Harkness/the Brigadeer.

    So, in re: Mrs. Flood...
Apparently many of her outfits were previous companion outfits, not just Clara in the last episode -- and the winter coat at the end was Romana.

The Rani apparently (it's been a while) had a bit about dressing up like companions?

And her suitcase at the end is basically one big Easter Egg:

So popular consensus is that she's The Rani at the moment...

I believe this is an urban myth. I've never seen anything official to verify this.

Sometimes the Christmas Special is considered an extension of the previous season, so it's possible the Daleks could show up there.

Yes. Particularly because when the Doctor left Susan, it was in a Dalek-destroyed dystopian future. By all means have the Doctor go see some Daleks there.

While it was in 2023, the Children in Need special where the 14th Doctor arrives on Skaro during the creation of the first Dalek could almost qualify for that annual appearance, leaving the Christmas special for this year.

Are you suggesting the recognizable enemies might show up more often solely because they’re recognizable?
