Peter, are you coming back to this thread? There is a great chance that you will be in Episode III, because Obi-Wan had been on Tattoine for 20 years prior to the events in ANH. When he went to Mos Eisely, he either knew Chewie ahead of time, or someone pointed you out to him. Either way, Obi-Wan was the one introducing you to Luke, and we never did see him first meeting you.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Chewbacca here, first mate on a ship that might suit us."

The only thing that could sink this theory is if someone else Kenobi knew ahead of time set the two of you up for the fist time in that cantina scene. To me, that doesn't make any sense, because you would think the guy he knew would take Kenobi directly to Han.

Wookies can live for hundreds of years if I am not mistaken. It would also help show how much Obi-Wan has grown since he was dismissing Jar-Jar in TPM. His getting to know you in the next two films would also tie into the fact that so much is happening on Tattoine.

Wow, I am truly honored that you would visit here. I re-watch that MTV thing where you get your medal every once in a while and it really makes me tear up. I know I would really love it if you were in one or boh of the next two. Han would not be around, because he would be too young to have saved you from the Empire at that point, and it would add further depth to the dynamic between Obi-Wan and Chewie in the classic trilogy.

Hi Peter! Thank you for paying us a visit! I couldn't have hoped for a better surprise. How exciting. :)
Looks like all the questions have been asked, but I'd like to add that I'm also 100% behind having Chewie in EP III. It makes much more sense, to me, than having Boba Fett in there. I like the idea of a scene with Obi Wan, or a wookie fighting off the empire to the very end...and you just KNOW it's Chewie! The theater would errupt.

    GO CHEWIE!!

I too would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr. Mayhew... I have always loved Chewbacca and the interplay between him and Han.

We've all been keen on getting Chewie back for the prequels. Has anyone considered that with Mr. Mayhew now in contact with a solid (though exteme) fan base, we might be able to initiate some sort of campaign aimed at Lucas to get Chewie somewhere in the next film? I know Lucas writes what he will, and is not concerned as much with what the Star Wars fans want when he pens the scripts. BUT, maybe with a little support from all of us (and our various friends who don't hang out here), we can give Lucas the strong message, with Mr. Mayhew, that we'd like to see at least a cameo of Chewie in Ep. III... It's just a thought, but anyone have a suggestion? Or should we just let fate take its course?

I look forward to the future messages you leave us, Mr. Mayhew. Cheers!

Welcome to the Jedi Council forums, Mr. Mayhew. :) It's great when the people who made Star Wars interact with fans, and I hope you enjoy it here. Chewbacca is a great character (for any who had doubts about his popularity, go back and read the posts from October of 1999, when he was killed of in Vector Prime), and your performance in the role gave us some of the most memorable scenes in the original trilogy.

I like the idea of Obi-Wan having known Chewie before. If properly done, it can make the galaxy far, far away seem more connected and continuous.

    As for Chewbacca himself...

As much as I like him, I really don't want to see him in the prequels. This is because it is in ANH that Han and Chewie are first introduced to us. It is made pretty much absolutely clear that it was at that point in the Mos Eisley Cantina that we see Han and Chewie for the very first time. It's just the tone of how Han introduces himself and Chewie, and how that scene is shot and scripted... it sets that feeling of a first appearance to the audience pretty firmly.

I agree Iron Parrot, although...on the other hand, i really wouldnt mind if we saw a quick glimpse of Chewie in the next few films...i even wouldnt mind if he had as much screen time as 3PO did in TPM.

I especially would like to see something along the lines of what was mentioned earlier, Chewie being taken into slavery or something and getting to see where his excessive dislike for chackles comes into play. Even if its very quick, if its done in a clever manner, i think the audience would love it.

Welcome, Chewie! (Uh, I mean Peter!) I for one would love to see Chewie in Ep.III, if only for a cameo. Why don't you just call George and tell him you *want* to be in it? It worked for Sam Jackson... :)

I guess seeing Chewie in a cameo would be nice, but as far as cameos go, I think we're all in agreement that Darth Kimball is the priority.

    Hey, Darth Kimball rules.

Sure, some of the more conservative fans who don't want to see drastic alterations to what has been presented in terms of the tone and technology of the saga aren't very accepting of Kimball's sabre style, but still...

Wow, something just hit me. If Obi-Wan had known Chewbacca, you would thikn he would have asked him where he dug up that fossil, not Luke.

Hmmm, I guess it isn't that bad. I mean, he is trying to specifically rib Luke with the line.

Also, I don't know why some of you think that it was apparent the way Han introduced himself, that Chewie didn't know him.

I am foggy on this, did Han actually introduce Obi-Wan and Luke to Chewie once they got to the table?

I was thinking that Obi-Wan introduced Luke to Chewie, and then Chewie introduced them both to Han.

I vauguely remember Obi-Wan talking to the bartender, who seemed to possibly point out Chewie, but I will have to check it out to be sure. Anyone out ther know off-hand?

Mr. Mayhew, thanks for helping me get through childhood. Being full-blooded Native American in a smalltown community where everyone looks different from you was tough sometimes. Watching Chewie gave me a lot of self esteem and self acceptance, because like me, he was the odd-man-out. Thanks for inspiring kids like me.

Welcome to the JC. Enjoy your visits.

Ok I guess I'm in a position to answer/verify some questions for you all. This is Mr. Peter Mayhew. DFW Fanforce is indeed working on Peter's web site. Peter and his lovely wife recently hosted a houseful of web folks (disguised as starry-eyed fan-boys and girls) to their lovely home. Peter's wonderful Star Wars collection, which will play a prominent role in web page, will leave you in awe. To say nothing of the stories that accompany them. Stay tuned for an official announcement and unveiling.
