Isaac Asimov has an actual, real screenplay adaptation of I, Robot that he wrote years ago.

Will Smith's Myself, The Android has been well-documented as originating as a completely original screenplay that had nothing to with the Asimov novel that was awkwardly welded to arbitrary references because they owned the rights - much like what happened with League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - because the Conventional Wisdom is that you get a better draw if your movie is supposedly 'based' on something.
I'm sure there's some "My mother is named Martha too!" level 'connections' between the movie and the story, in the sense they are both science fiction stories involving robots, and that Asimov's shadow looms large over any stories involving robots since the 1950s.

Thanks for reminding me about that terrible I, Robot movie. I had managed to forget that it existed. Sigh.

It'l be interesting to see what that foundation adaption will be like..... that seems like a pretty tricky series to adapt.

Also Will Smith was in that unofficial Shadowrun film, which means you can't criticise the sequels Wocky.

I don't really understand what your point is. We all realize full well that the I, Robot script was written as an original property. That's not what I said. I noted there are demonstrable linkages between the version that is actually on film and Asimov's ideas. It would be tiresome to retype again, but I guess I do this every few years if you actually want a discussion.

I think it was called Bright or something, where he is partnered with orc cop Joel Edgerton.

    Shadowrun.

I see the usual users showing up as the latest posters on the main page, and I wonder what on earth they could still be talking about?

Shadowrun has some pretty decent PC games made by HBS (the same studio that made the excellent Battletech game a few years ago)

I took a look-see (I usually avoid the Movie Forums like they are the plague, because they kind of are) I'm not surprised to see some old faces from the heyday of the Lit forums. Good see former(?) Saxtonites finding something new to overly upset about.

LOL - the new fan rage of the moment is epic gold. Apparently Lego wanted to stop calling Boba's ship "slave 1" because in some countries that search returns pornographic results on amazon (or something like that).

Correct me if I'm wrong - but the name "Slave 1" is never actually mentioned in any SW movie. People only know it because it was the name of the toy version of this ship.

Imagine being an actual adult and getting upset that a company is changing the name of a TOY SPACESHIP.

Taking a trip down memory lane, the fan rage circa 2006-7 over everything - the Super Star Destroyers, the Endor Holocausts, the Grand Army of the Republic, Karen Traviss... puts anything these days to shame. [face_laugh]

Ah, the days when someone would compose a 100 page document to do a point-by-point refutation of a video criticizing one of the movies. [face_laugh]

Well, the fart scene didn’t used to bother me…

    I’m cured of that.

Well it is canon, it's in all the reference books not just the toys.

Lego would have to get permission, which I don't think will happen anyway.

Adults getting mad about the name of a pretend spaceship in a reference book isn't any better than getting mad about the name of a pretend toy spaceship :)

I'd be mad if it was changed after so many years being the canon name.
    There's no need for it.
It invalidates all the stuff I've collected over the years with that name on.

Slave 1 is as much a part of Star Wars as Millennium Falcon or X-Wing or TIE Fighter.

A paper would be a bit much to explain how Star Wars creates the MCU:

In late 1976, Marvel was months away from bankruptcy. Stan Lee was approached to do an adaptation of some "space opera" movie that was going to be released in about a dozen theaters and, because they were pretty much out of other ideas, said yes.

The Marvel comic adaptation of Star Wars was the only merchandise widely available that summer of 1977. It sold out and was reprinted. The reprints sold out. Several more runs sold out. Hell, it's still being reprinted today.

The most successful supervillain in Marvel comic history is not Doc Ock, Magneto or Thanos. It's the black cape wearing Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader.

The books weren't changed and you aren't buying new versions of them with different titles.
