I don’t know. Star Wars seems to get top budget shows and movies on par or even more expensive than Marvel. Let’s not forget part of the sunk cost for buying Star Wars also included ILM and the other LucasFilm production facilities. That investment is being used across Disney brands.

Disney doesn’t just buy creative properties to make money. They buy them so their competition can’t make money on them. This became a bigger driving force for Disney after the Harry Potter theme park. 15+ years ago Disney had little interest creating a park expansion for a property they didn’t own - that being Harry Potter. Disney essentially passed on the project by making a very unfavorable offer and saying that’s the best they’d give.

The struggling Universal Studios put up big money for Potter and went all out creating a new park experience. Suddenly Universal Studios theme park was actual competition challenging the Disney Parks. Disney management’s take away was by passing on Potter they opened the door for competition to get in.

Owning everything and restricting others in your own industry isn't good for competition which in turn is bad for the industry.

It's in Marvel's interest for DC to be successful, because it makes higher demand for superhero content and also keeps Marvel on its toes so it doesn't become complacent.

ILM and the other LucasFilm production divisions are a way Disney can make money and save money. I didn’t mean to say the are excluding competitors from paying for those companies services. I would expect all the Disney productions are now getting some version of the George Lucas rate for in-house production - which lowers production costs for Disney.

Disney really doesn’t want content competition. Even in the 80s and 90s they’d pull a trick where a week or two before competing studio released a feature lengthy animated film, Disney would re-release one of their classic animated films to take a bite out of the new films box office.

 

Stop! Stop! This is all getting very uninteresting.

I'm also sure they've leaned on the Academy at the Oscars to prevent rival animated movies from winning against their movie.

Competition doesn't mean you have to play fair all the time

The faces were also off. In Return of the Jedi the actor’s eyes were much better integrated.

I think in Jedi the guards wore full padded body suits that included the arms, legs and hands all being covered. The forearms were also extended so the hands weren’t gloves but some sort of articulated extension with the performers hands in the wrists.

In the book of Boba Fett there is dramatically less padding. The arms don’t appear to be extended.

 

Diet? I felt offended by their appearance. They had the same belly as I did after two years of lockdowns and home office.
