Amph END OF LINE: TRON, Uprising, Legacy & Ares

Huh. That is weird- it is also missing in the US as well. Can't this show catch a break?

 

Apparently John Ridley was working on a Tron TV series that was about to be announced at last year's D23, but, unfortunately, it was scrapped at the last moment. Dammit!

 

Having advance talks with Daft Punk is a great first step. And it not being a reboot (which would have been a totally unnecessary action) is also great news.

 

Huh, so digging into those quotes, there actually is a chance we might be getting a proper Legacy sequel afterall- here's the full quote before the Daft Punk bit most places have been focused on:

“We’re looking at making a sequel to Tron now, we’re looking at Tron 3, and we’ve got a great script, I mean a really phenomenal script that we’re very excited about. Whereas the timing wasn’t right to have done it years ago, I think we feel like the timing is right now, and I feel like we’ve learned a lot of lessons from that last movie..

The right and first thing to do is to bring Daft Punk back and see if they want to [return]…We don’t even know who will be directing yet. We’re hopeful that Joe Kosinski will come back and do another one…A lot of things gotta fall into the right places.”​

 

Kosinski hints at unreleased Daft Punk Tron music.

Steve then pressed Kosinski about a potential treasure trove of additional Daft Punk music that was left off the various soundtrack albums that Disney has released over the years. (There’s also stuff like “Computerized,” a single with Daft Punk and Jay-Z that was supposed to accompany the end credits but was scrapped by nervous execs which you can listen to below) “I can neither confirm nor deny that there may be some incredible music that we weren’t able to fit in the movie,” Kosinski said. “Someday it would be nice to figure out some way to share that. Disney needs some other revenue streams right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if we try to do that at some point. That’d be great.”​

Was finally getting some art prints out of tubes and into some portfolios and decided to run this Japanese Roadshow flyer art through Google Translate just out of curiosity. It's not perfect, but:

(Also, must have been one hell of a vinyl to hold a grunge for that long... )

That character map reminds me of things that used to pop up in local newspapers when Star Wars films came out.

 

I'd take Jared Leto if it meant getting Kosinski back directing. But the new guy seems to be passionate about it- and the franchise is nothing if not continuously experimental, so hopefully he pulls it off. Still, tremendously sad we're not getting a direct Legacy follow-up and that we might be losing the unique tone of Legacy through the change in director.

 

So, Leto seemingly confirmed the previously-rumored working title of "Tron: Ares" in social media posts confirming his involvement in the project. Then he edited the posts to remove the subtitle.
