It's not like studios have directly lied to us in the past with cast lists. There's no SAG rules about those I am aware of.

True, but had we gotten Ascension with the size of his presumed role, his name would have been included in the main cast list in advance (especially given that his uncredited cameo in Legacy was already established). Not mentioning him here suggests a reduced role, second cameo or recast (or takes on a new form facilitating a recast ala an MCP-like voice) if the character is included.

Saw a random internet post that his character was recast with Evan Peters. I can dig it, Peters is great. Still love to see Murphy return though

Hopefully not the case (they’ve obviously been very thorough about not recasting characters, outside of soundalikes for animation/video games), but given the limited role he had in Legacy, with the passage of time and such and I guess they can blur the lines enough to make it work.

A first glimpse at what is seemingly a new ENCOM lobby with a banner for the Space Paranoids franchise:

Interesting to note that this implies ENCOM made a Legacy-style Space Paranoids sequel after Sam escaped, as well as giving us a look at an even more modern sequel called Space Paranoids VII with a new style of Recognizer. It's a little sleeker and maybe a bit more of a throwback to the simplicity of the classic design, but lacking the sense of mechanical functionality of the Legacy design (at least at first glance).

Also amusing that the Space Paranoids Online retro cash-in that the Flynn-absent ENCOM tried to push a year before the events of Legacy is not mentioned (the game was announced by Alan at the press conference that the Flynn Lives movement disrupted and at which Sam parachuted from a helicopter at, beginning his "annual pranks").

A write up in one of the trades sites said it was about "AI entering the real world" (something I think Olivia Wilde mentioned years ago) but anyway I'm down with light cycles and tron tanks in the street if that's what (probably) happens

Im worried about this. I think the way to go was to expand the universe. Its always been the world of a closed computer system. The possibilities of a computer world that is on the internet is beyond imagination.

Yeah, that was always the plan. Ascension would have carried the threads from Legacy forward of the impact of the digital world on the real world, with Gridtech and Programs getting into the real world.

Ares is taking that concept part of the story, but shifted to the POV of new characters and, apparently, Programs from a new, Dillinger-developed Grid.

I would like the Tronverse AI folks to enter the real world and then confront their soul-crushing impersonal real-world equivalents, OpenAI, Bard, CoPilot, etc, which have no interest in giving up their ever-expanding control over humanity built on an internet of its own making, and certainly not to a bunch of lightbright-waving technopunks from the 80s. The denizens of the Grid realize they are from an alternate AI future, where player vs player pixels on a blackscreen is the only reality, and fate is decided only on whether the Game Over sign appears. How do they contend with emails, fake news, emails, long chains of bickering posts in comment sections, emails, youtubes and podcasts spouting endless streams of thought into the digital wind, and worse, emails? Will they be able to battle the combined virtual forces of Midjourney, Dall-E, and other generative horrors in the Cloud? Doubtful, but we might like to see them try.

Tronverse tries to take over the world and instead get merged into reaction videos

It will be interesting to see what motivations they lend to the Programs in the real world. The real world has more to benefit from them than the other way around. And while Programs have individuality, they are still motivated in some way by their programming, from what we have seen,.

Clu was going to conquer and control his society by leveraging the near-instantaneous-and-unlimited army that a SHIVA laser and Grid time dilation afforded him once he was free of system restraints. Quorra is more like a User in that she was a "natural" lifeform, but she had an innate curiosity in addition to what benefits her code could provide to humans.

But Ares is a security program like Tron, but from a different Grid, so what compels him, I wonder? If we aren't ruling out CG cameos, I even wonder if it comes down to trying to stop Ares (if he is a villain and not a "breaking free of your programming"-type character turning against Dillinger) by recovering and extracting Tron, for a security vs security Program face off finale.

    Set video spoiler going around:

Can't seem to embed it, but here's the link.

Basically, we see Leto/Ares with his light suit showing white circuit lines instead of his normal red. Unless the color is being added via FX for some practical reason for this shot/scene, it suggests he converts allegiances at some point in the film- further supported by him seemingly fighting a red light suited Program/

Nice to see them confirm it instead of leaving it to rumor.

“I didn’t like the way I looked... I felt like I looked more like Bill Maher than myself. It was kind of bizarre.”

I'm going to have a hard time unseeing that now, lol.

Ok, that’s a really good choice.

Gotta love the use of the lasers timed to the video wall for that logo reveal.

EDIT- most of a cam trailer:

EDIT 2- possible we’ll be seeing some hopping between the three Grid systems:

EDIT 3- glimpse of what is presumably the Dillinger Grid’s Lightcycle:

Apparently NIN are going to do the score.

Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor have done film music scores together but this is them officially going by the NIN name, which definitely has my interest

Using their Nine Inch Nails band name I'd say it's a bit or a callback to Daft Punk doing the Tron Legacy score under their band name

Also, apparently Peter’s is playing Julian Dillinger, not a recasted Edward Jr. as was initially believed. That’s good to know that the door may still be open for a Cillian return in the future.

I’m assuming brother or cousin. Perhaps Julian runs Dillinger Systems while Ed was working at Encom.

Hopefully they’ll post it. Unless they’re saving it for Alien. Otherwise I’d expect a variation of this trailer, or a new “public” one entirely, to come out later this year for Moana 2 or Mufasa.

Is Leto really keeping his Morbius hairdo for this? I feel like long greasy hair doesn't really fit the Tron vibes. Give him a buzzcut or something, or at least an 80's style haircut.

Jeff Bridges speaks to Rob Lowe on Leto going method, and seemingly bringing a music element.

"I hadn’t met him before. I’m saying, ‘What’s it gonna be like?’ because he was also a producer of the show, big fan of the original, working on it for ten years.

I came in, and you know how each set has a different vibe? There was an interesting vibe on this. I said, ‘How’s Jared? How’s he working?’ ‘He’s all right. You know, we call him Ares, you know, so he goes by his name,’ and I said, ‘Oh, that’s interesting.

His name was Ares in the show, and I ended up going, ‘Hey Air, what’s happening man?’ And I say, ‘Is it OK if I call you Air?’ And he says, ‘Yeah, sure you can.’ Then we got loose, and it was just wonderful. I mean, we jammed, you know?'”

He nodded to the music in the film, prompting Lowe to confirm that Leto’s character is also a rockstar. “Big rockstar, man,” he confirmed. “I won’t tell you ’cause we get into some music stuff in the show, and it’s quite good. He’s wonderful in the part though, and I’m so happy to be a part [of it].”
