How has this thread not been more busy lately Ender? Has it just been too "shooting fish in a barrell"?

Trump proved him right and he felt he needed to retire the thread.

I joined some great Seppo-bashing groups on Facebook. Pete invited me to most, though there's one with literal Marxists predicting a literal workers revolution (because they never read Lenin) which we're out of.

Some great memes in there though:

    etc

But yeah mostly it's all come true! You elected the living embodiment of what America looks like as President. And the feeling of revulsion at his antics that's inside you? That's how we all feel about America! You're now just starting to understand why people think Americans are a bit ****, and it's great.

Okay I know we like to have fun here in the jokes about America thread but for real our units of measurement are so goddamn awful. Like just the absolute worst. Why do I have to remember there are 97 potboils to the schweinefleischschmecktgut? Why do I have to remind my students there are 108 gopherpaws to the fancydan before we can just do some mathematics? How does this continue? I refuse to believe this is a "'Murrica" thing because I'm pretty sure you can get the conservatives on board by reminding them all of their bullets are metric, and all the liberals like to fantasize that they're European anyway. Who's left? Senators? Easily paid off by businesses looking to save on conversion fees in a fine exercise in traditional plutocracy. We could fix this. We choose this nightmare.

    Ah, Deutschland.

Over here, we used to have different times in each city until well after the railroad stations came. But two days after the Germans invaded in May 1940, everyone was on the same time. German time.

    Probably very efficient time, though.

... yet it's the ****ing English system. Much like everything else wrong with America, England introduced it and then wants credit for later abandoning it.

And I say this as someone with a ****ing Physics degree that had to teach an undergrad lab course - the titular "Physics for Poets" - with English measurements. WHAT THE **** DOES A "SLUG" REPRESENT, ENDER. WHAT THE **** WERE THE ENGLISH THINKING

Hey, gotta blame the Brits for miles. Hell their system makes even less sense because they're all "I ran ten miles a day and dropped a stone but I'm still 180cm tall".

    Pick a lane.

I'm not defending the British, so that Whataboutism has no effect. You're either using sensible metrics, or you're as bad as an American.

I think the pinnacle of imperial-metric doublethink is the fact that in Britain all distances are measured in miles, fuel consumption for cars is given as miles-per-gallon, but petrol and diesel are sold (and priced) by the litre. :p

I have a scientific background, which means, yes, I prefer using the metric system in all things, INCLUDING KELVIN. DO YOU USE CELCIUS, ENDER? THEN YOU'RE A CLOSET ENGLISH MEASUREMENT USER. TEMPERATURE IS NEVER NEGATIVE

    :p

Stones. WTF is a stone. I had to ask when I was in London—apparently 14 pounds, 7 kilograms, or close to it?

    I like stones.

    What sounds better?

" @Darth Punk weighs a well upholstered 20 stone" or "That salad dodging **** @Darth Punk weighs 280 pounds, the fat prick"?

No, the best is listing the amount of Joules that your body would be equivalent to if there was a total mass to energy conversion.

That way the measurement changes with your speed relative to the measuring device, just as god intended.
