    Wing Commander Sidor Antilles
    Battle of Corsin

Sidor looked at the Interdictor and knew he had now to act fast. They had broken through, but to make it there he needed to make another sacrifice to the Gods of war. „Eclipse, Quasars, break off and get those TIEs busy. All others follow me, Greens, we take lead.“ The two squadrons would not hold out long against the TIE swarm, but Sidor needed not long, he needed a few more moments. Just a few more moments.

„Copy, Green Leader.“ Eclipse and Quasar confirmed and their X-5 turned around in a brutal turn and began attacking the numerically far superior enemy. The green dots of half those two squadrons vanished almost right away, before they began mixing with the red dots.

„Torpedoes only, prepare for attack run!“ Sid yelled into his machine, ignoring the desperate cries of his pilots.

    Almost there.

    -Pelak Baw, Haruun Kal

"They were fierce. Well trained combatants of the blade. But they can be defeated. When they attacked Elyseum, they are incredibly efficient, dedicated to the death, and organized. They have used the element of surprise in both of their attacks and when they launch attacks they use overwhelming numbers and Force. The Jedi seem to be their main focus and they element everyone else who gets in the way."

This was the first time he was able to analyze the attacks in his head. The technical and tactical aspects. He continued. "They have advanced droids at their use and mix the Force users in with foot soldiers. Most of the force were foot soldiers and the Force users were deployed to handle Jedi specifically. If they were to attack Haruun Kal directly, we would have to expect them to send a large battalion of Force users and the battle would be long. They would go for overkill to assure their victory."

Jedi Sten posed a question. "It seemed they let Akeem and Cesto escape though. Do you have any idea why that is? You maybe Akeem?“

The woman was digging for information. The same as she had when he first encountered her. He would keep his answers short. Short until he had a chance to converse with Saylu in private.

"I could not begin to guess, Jedi Sten."

    Tanee Bolyn
    The Nightflyer

Tanee stopped humming. She stopped reaching out into the Force. She pulled back into herself. She was internally struggling. She was feeling so much darkness and crushing overpowering loss. She heard Janis cry out, and she knew that she was not the only one feeling the darkness. She wished that Jedi Knight Saleen was here. The overwhelming feeling of darkness was threating to crush her. She needed the light. She needed...

/..If there is no light without, then look within.../

Tanee blinked slowly. Was that from an old lesson? Perhaps it was, Tanee didnt really remember. But she knew she needed to do something. In her mere 14 years, this event was well beyound her scope. Was this past anyones scope of events or history? Look within? Tanee dug around her pockets, and found one of the small stones she frequently used for her meditations. She looked at it for a few moments, and then closed her eyes. She thought about the calm she felt when she meditated.

She remembers something she had heard once. She always liked the line. /..I am the keeper of the flame...lighting the way../he quietly thought to herself. She thought of the colors than ran along the stone. The smoothness of the rock and how it felt in her hands. And she thought of the temple, and how it had felt when she had walked in the inner chambers. Like with the battle before, she realized she had nowhere near the strength to battle head to head with what she was fighting against. It was far too powerful and threating to overwhelm her. So instead, she needed to flow around and let it pass. Tanee breathed deeply, ignoring as best she could the calamidy around her, as she concentrated on her own inner light. Trying to embrace it, to encourage it to grow. To let it fill her and guide her when it was needed most.

    -Corsin Evac Point

They arrived at the Evac point and the Risen Hazard was waiting for them. There was almost no one else there aside from the guard watching the defenses and trying to make sure the point was secure. Khan noted the heavy casualties. The squad boarded the ship and Hawk took Rubber off her shoulders and carried him to the examination table in the small medbay. None of them were certified medics, but had received enough training to apply sustainable bacta treatments to battle wounds until, hopefully, they could find a hospital far away and on another planet.

Khan took off her helmet and checked the data report. Heavy casualties were confirmed and the Third Republic was fighting a losing battle in orbit.

"We may not be able to leave." She said calmly as she scrolled. Lorn and Buzz took off their helmets as well and began checking their gear. Khan could tell they were concerned with her words and waited for Buzz's reply.

It came from Lorn instead. "So...whatcha sayin, ma'am?"

"I'm saying that unless the fighting in orbit clears a path for us, we might have to stay on the planet and hide out." She stopped, then realized that answer was quite grim. "Currently, Third Command has not sent now "EVAC TO" points. I'm looking for a list of planets that we could go to. Lorn, pull up a map of the planet. We need to find a spot to lay low if we aren't able to leave."

Buzz chuckled. "Hell yea, so we're on our own?"

Khan smirked and walked towards the cockpit. Buzz and Rubber were the types that when situations got harder or more precarious, their enjoyment and excitement went up. Balls to the wall, is how Buzz would put it.

She raised an eyebrow and looked from Akeem to Saylu Bestat and then back.

„It is a little strange and cannot be meaningless. They had you. Outnumbered by them and their commander appeared, who was probably a far superior warrior. He seemed to have stopped what was about to your end and let you and Knight Cesto leave instead. These dark warriors have not had the habit to let anyone escape. I also realized you made it out of orbit just before they activated their Interdictor.“ She turned to Saylu. „Haruun Kal is a neutral world, may I ask if you have any deeper connections with the Free Systems? They clearly spear-headed the attack and are now at war with the Third Republic and the Jedi Order. These dark warriors were either under the command of the Free Systems or they are their allies.“ She shrugged. „I actually think if they ever turned against you, there would be no ground battle. They would crush your fleet easily and bombard the planet, just like the Empire did 120 years ago. I would understand if you felt the need to be neutral in the upcoming conflict.“ Soa watched Saylu closely and reached into the force, trying to detect any duplicity. „Loosing so many lives, a thought that must be unsettling for you.“

He stopped following Saylu and turned to the Jedi. His contempt for her and her Order boiling.

"Unsettling... You must know the feeling of being unsettled. After all, you did leave the entire world of Corsin and all of your Jedi Kiisa behind to die at their hand for...for what, actually?...For this?" He tapped the lightsaber at his side. "Why are you here exactly? You didn't help me return; Taruun-oyo did. So you begin your stay here by outright lying to the Realm Protector and expect what? Us to indulge your elementary diplomatic skills as you dig for information?"

She fought the urge to smile. Someone was getting nervous rather quickly. The questions seemed to have had the desired effect of making them nervous.

„I did nothing like that.“ Soa calmly replied. „I was charged on my request with returning you here by the Corsin Council. I indeed abandoned my brothers and sisters to their certain death to fulfill that duty. Knight Cesto had no such mandate from the Jedi. I will have to ask him why he intervened once he has recovered.“ She made a gesture to Saylu. „Now that you have revealed the Dark Side might be at work here on Haruun Kal I am obliged to investigate, naturally. With your permission, of course Protector.“

They had their own problems, but Soa had also the feeling they had something to hide. „Knight Cesto is a native Korunnai, isn‘t he? Maybe he had problems with divided loyalties?“ She sighed. „Also I am grateful he saved your nephews life. Without him Akeem might have fallen prey to these dark warriors like my brothers and sisters from the order probably did.“

    Cockpit of the Nightflyer

The giant Empress-Class came into sight, as TIEs swarmed all around her. Maybe this sector had not been such a wise choice. „Sorry guys, shooting will be a bit hard from now on.“ Sera put out into comm and hit full backthrusters with her left engines, basically making the ship slide out of it‘s position, hard leaning to the right and then accelerating her engines to maximum and pass the battlefield in parallel now. „I need a full reading of what is going on Kilara.“ She shouted and began to roll and then break away to the right to enter the depth of Republic ships in a rapid maneuver. „Let‘s see how good these guys truly are.“ She ignored proximity alerts and took the Nightflyer so closer to Republic carrier that was breaking apart that she could have touched it had the window not been there. Then she made it to the breaking point and pushed right again, entering the field of debris created by the burning ship. Dodging two especially large chunks of the destroyed vessel she broke through to the other side. The Nightflyer was sleek and fast, almost a fighter, but only almost. The small size was an advantage in battles though. Sera gasped out as she was realizing she was still alive. Grinning she put her nose up and flew towards the giant MC-120 above, the Vigilance. The dreaded flagship of the 2nd Republic fleet was under pressure from a swarm of the Empress-Class ships that looked rather small in comparison.

„I really need a little oversight here.“ Sera hissed. „Where is the grav-field?“

    Orbit of Corsin

The Vigilance shook under severe fire, as it made it‘s way into the front line. The Republic‘s surprise moment had faded and the more modern Empress-Class ships began ripping deep holes into the attack lines of the 2nd fleet.

Admiral Farlander was no longer estimating losses, he now was counting the seconds until the 25 fighters who remained on course to the Interdictor would arrive at their target. He knew their fleet was lost and the ground battle was over, after the Armada gaining air superiority.

It was only a matter of minutes now. Alarm rang, indicating the Vigilance was loosing hull integrity. He checked and saw their shields, as powerful as they were, had finally been broken and were down to 3%. Closing his eyes he wondered how it could have come to this.

„Open a channel to High Command.“ He ordered his aide. „This is Admiral Farlander, transferring all sensor data from the battle of Corsin. We are facing imminent defeat and the surface is lost and occupied by enemy forces. Our ships are trapped in an interdiction field and we are at risk of loosing the entire fleet. I send all data of the enemy we have gathered through now and transfer command to all remaining vessels to High Command. May the force be with us all. Admiral Farlander, out.“

    Corsin Orbit

    Aboard the Nightflyer, entering orbit

Both Kya and Janis had taken out several enemy fighters, before Sera‘s daring maneuvers made such a thing impossible. Yet, her flight through the remains of the destroyed carrier had been more effective than any canon could have been and only one single TIE had managed to keep up and exited the debris field right in the firing vector of Matthias Kya.

Kilara quickly send through the data and Sera and her saw the Republic offense against the Interdictor cruiser, deeply embedded behind enemy lines. Not as far as it had been a few minutes ago though, as the Republic fleet had pushed deeply into the enemy lines by now and was stuck there now sides on all sides by enemies remorselessly hitting the 2nd fleets ships.

The comm channels opened up and their unit was specifically designed to hack Republic communication. She heard the commands of Green Leader to attack.

Both Janis and Tanee felt the presence of Canos Zoren fade away. For Tanee it felt a lot like it did when leaving Elyseum, which meant he had probably left the planet. Which also meant the Interdictor had dropped the grav-field somewhere to allow him to jump. She felt a glimmer of hope in the force and there was not only darkness. There was bravery of men fighting knowing they were going to die. There were Jedi still fighting down there on the planet, protecting citizens from the onslaught. Yes, the battle had been lost and the light on Corsin had been diminished like she had never seen before, but it was not entirely gone. From Janis though she felt his fear and anger had made him powerful. Something had connected to the young man‘s soul and that was not light.

    Near the Spaceport, Transport

As Karina entered the cockpit of the bulky transport the pilots were trying to sort through the uncoordinated chatter of a thousand lines now without a command structure anymore. There was one other guest besides the pilots, a catlike Jedi, with a two-bladed lightsaber hilt to her leg. Karina would recognize the famous Jedi Sareen. „The evacuation orders won‘t come. We need to make our way out of the city now.“ She said calmly. Looking at Karina she pointed to a holographic starmap. „Obroa Skai is our best bet, if we are gonna are it out of here.“ She said with a concerned look. It was a Republic stronghold near the border to the neutral zone. It was also a likely next target.

„Mountains have outposts, abandoned but functional. I got one with a stealth unit, might hide the energy signatures.“ Lorn reported from behind.

    Haruun Kal

    Pelek Baw, the Pyramid, Platform

Saylu gave Akeem a stern look to remind him to control himself. „My nephew has gone through a lot, please forgive him his harsh words. We are absolutely certain you have fulfilled your duties and if Knight Cesto has not done the same, the Council would be wise to judge him based on that.“ She sighed. „We have trade-relationships on with several worlds within the Free Systems, but we are not very important to them, considering how far away from them Haruun Kal lies. I can hardly imagine those who attacked Corsin were aware of any connection.“ She shrugged. „I cannot think of any other explanation, but that they realized Akeem is no Jedi. They probably did not consider him a . . . legitimate target.“ She thought about it for a moment. „Maybe they seek a future alliance with Haruun Kal. Once the Republic is overcome the independent systems will certainly be their next target.“ Saylu looked at Akeem. „Maybe you should say hello to you brother, as I discuss matters of lesser importance with Knight Sten.“ She said and she had the way to suggest things that made it clear they were not truly a suggestion.

„We would be most grateful for any help the Jedi provide against those who have bound themselves to darkness.“ She smiled at Soa and one could see a smile was not something her face often showed. She showed no duplicity in the force. Actually she revealed very little. As Soa probed her presence she found the Protector had indeed learned much from the Jedi. How to withdraw in the force to become impossible to read was among those things.

She nodded at the explanation of Saylu, which was not really a believable explanation. Soa had seen the attackers slaughtering everyone in their way. Yet, she did not discuss this any further. Saylu seemed very capable at playing the statesman. She had to be careful with what she said and did around this woman. She was not to be underestimated.

Waiting for Akeem to leave, she finally addressed the Protector. „So tell me about this Dark Side Rebellion here. Do you know who is behind this?“ Folding her hands behind her back she now reached out into the city, as she could not read her conversation partner. The Dark Side left a taint on everything, she would have to feel it. She was not entirely sold on the story yet, but she had not really heard a lot of it. „I assume they were the ones who tried to kill your Queen?“

    IC: Valerius Vector
    Location: Millenium Falcon, Tion orbit

    Home…

Well it didn't look like home anymore.

Valerius had only been away for a month but it seemed the world had undergone a lifetime change. There were warships everywhere, fighters were coming to greet the freighter and Tion itself looking like it was more industrialized than ever.

The freighter he was on looked like a bucket of bolts but it did the job. And when it came to ships, unlike Redmon he was not snobby about any ship he had to hitch a ride on.

Valerius had been working on a case before he left, investigating a series of accidents. But whenever he enquired about things he was given a polite or rude brush off. So he kept in his 'open' pile, maybe the case he was working on now could be connected to his previous one.

"It wasn't like this when I left it" Valerius said to the Wookiee as he stared out of the cockpit "The Empress has gathered quite a sizable fleet, no surprise since this is her throneworld. There were rumours she was amassing one and from what I have found out and seen now it seems she has headed off to war" he shook his head.

"This is Tion Control, unidentified ship please state the purpose of entering the Tion System. We need to inform you the system is under martial law." The officious voice came over the comm.

"Oh fantastic" Valerius said narrowing his eyes "I go away for a month and it's all gone to hell" he stood up and moved towards the comm "I hope you don't mind but hopefully as a law enforcement member and a citizen we should be able to be allowed to land. If the Empress hasn't put a bounty on my head or something"

Valerius spoke down the comm his datapad out and ready to enter his security codes his voice was just as officious as the voice that had just spoken to them "This is Valerius Vector, V V six two two six six, transmitting security codes now" he sent those off hoping it would get them a free pass.

"I am aboard this freighter as unfortunately my yacht was blown up and I am heading home to continue a case. I would be most grateful if you could allow me and my comrades aboard to land. I would also ask you to allow this ship to leave in gratitude for allowing me to get home" he nodded toward the Wookiee on that one "I also wonder if you have seen a Nubian yacht pass through as the person aboard is of interest".

Valerius then looked back out of the cockpit "I really hope this works…"

    Vanlu Teslisi IC:
    ~Battle of Corsin~

Vanlu noted the orders from Green Leader to not rush ahead and let him act as a proverbial extension of his shields. Not something he particularly liked, especially seeing the sudden help from their own fleet getting the attention of the flak guns, but he understood.

It was possible in those seconds between this order and the Republic fleet’s aid that he could have met disaster after all.

“We break through as one. Trust me.”

“Copy, Green Leader, staying right with you.”

And so he did, keeping his X-Wing right behind his Wing Commander’s D-Wing. He kept close, but not uncomfortably so. He gritted his teeth every time the man took a hit to his shields.

If it looks like he’s about to go down, I’m going to maneuver to take the shot instead. This guy is far more important than I am.

But for now, they all had a job to do and he was holding, so he allowed him to continue to play the shield against his wishes. It took everything he had not to dogfight the TIEs swarming all over the place and turning back to give chase.

Their comrades were fading out of the com channel in spectacular explosions of life and machinery all over the place. There was not many of them left.

But there was the Interdictor dead ahead now. He could see it.

“Target visual confirmed. We’re almost there!” the kessurian encouraged.

“Eclipse, Quasars, break off and get those TIEs busy. All others follow me, Greens, we take lead.”

    “Copy, Green Leader.”

"This is Red 7. Copy, Green Leader,” he echoed once more.

“Torpedoes only, prepare for attack run!”

His hands flew over his controls swiftly, making sure everything was in order. Just a little more, a little more…

A glance at his computer there was about roughly 25 of them left. Vanlu grimaced even further before looking away. Just focus on the task at hand, put that all away. All of it.

Further and further they got. Would they make it in time to even attack? Only the Force could tell.

In the mean time, he kept his focus on his flying skills and did his best to analyze the Interdictor ship from both the mindset of a pilot and as a former mechanic. Was there a weakness he could exploit? Something that would hasten its demise, maybe save a few more of these brave fighter pilots?

His mind and heart raced. And their destiny loomed all the closer for it.

    The Fields of Glory!

Going to attack speed he saw the two squadrons break off and enter their fights. 25 fighters remained and six Empress-Class still lay between them and the enemy. He hoped there were not too many more fighters. They were now reaching their minimum limit. But the Republic had finally found it‘s teeth. The Admiral knew the fleet was lost and at least he showed fighting spirit. Not that Sidor approved the tactic, he would have preferred to save as many ships as possible for the relight, but at least he appreciated the spirit.

He activated his torpedoes, slided aside to open the firing range for Red 11 and activated the aiming computer. „Graph-projectors probably need lots of power, so I assume the reactor is right in their middle. We concentrate all fire on the center, all ships fire at will. But do not waste any torpedo. We do not have enough for a second attack.“

Khan looked at the Jedi for a moment before walking past her to the cockpit.

    "Follow me."

The Republic pilots moved aside as Saleen and Karina took their seats. The Hazard stayed low but began to move forward. She set a course for the mountain region Lorn indicated. She issued orders on the ships internal speaker.

"Engaging stealth systems. Lorn, Buzz. We're going to stay low and quiet until we have have cleared the lower atmosphere. Reports indicate a barrier around the planet, inhibiting evac efforts. Lorn, keep a search for a space with few combatants in orbit. That'll be our move."

She turned the com system off and spoke directly to Jedi Saleen, without looking at her.

"I am sorry for your losses, Jedi Saleen. Do you not think it best for you to try to go to the other Jedi facility, on Kamparas?"

    The Nighflyer

He felt his body tremble, as his fathers rage left him and his perception slowed down, his hands no longer guided by the powers which had given him such progress in battle. He kept on shooting though, also when Sera Romar executed a number of wild and dangerous maneuvers. He had never seen anyone fly like this. The woman was either very good or very mad. The only pilot he had ever experienced had been the old Duros. But when the Nightflyer cruised between burning ships and TIE-X fighters as if it was invincible he felt the irresistible desire to learn to fly like that.

The battle was not going well. You needed not to be a strategist to realize almost all Republic ships were burning, including the giant MC-120 above them. His father had won the day and he had done so pretty effortless. What would they do next? Would the Armada around them fly forewords and if so had the Republic enough ships to strop it? He knew so little about these things.

„Let us get out of here!“ He yelled into comm and kept on firing at everything that looked like an enemy.

    Tanee Bolyn
    The Nightflyer

Tanee smiled slightly when the presence of Canos faded away. He had left the planet most likely. Good. Tanee could now feel that there was still a slimmer of hope in the Force. There were still Jedi fighting on the planet. Yes, the light of the Force had dimmed, but it still existed. In so many who were willing to die to protect the citizens.

Tanee had gripped her seat, as she could feel the flying antics of the pilot, and whatever they were doing, it worked, as they still seemed to be in one piece. Tanee turned her head slightly. She worried more about Janis. She had heard him yell, most likely at his father. His father. Janis's mom must have met him before he changed. But what Tanee felt from Janis was troubling. His fear and anger were threatening to overwhelm him. But now was not the time to say anything. They needed to get away, and he needed to concentrate. Perhaps she could help him. Perhaps not. But she needed to try.

But for now, Tanee continued her meditation, letting the calm of the Force flow through her and throughout the ship. She didn't try to force it. She didn't want to interfere with the pilots or gunners. She simply wanted to calm them. She was realizing that when she tried to force something, it rarely happened the way she wanted. So instead, she just let the Force use her as best as she could, as she looked around her now, looking to see how the others seemed to be faring. They still had a long way to go. She didn't even know where the ship was going. All she could do was to concentrate on the here and now, and do whatever she could to be of help for now.

Exhaling through his nose, Akeem bowed to his aunt and turned away without speaking to the Jedi. The tie with his brother. The bond they shared. It was as strong as it had always been, especially when they were near each other. His brother was in...the library, a few levels below where he currently was. He turned a few corners and descended the back stairway. It was the quickest route. There was some confusion that came to him. Why did Saylu want him to go to Careem?

Careem greeted him before Akeem even entered the library to see his brother standing on the desk in the center of the library.

"Welcome home, heir protector." Careem said without lifting his eyes from one of the three books levitating around him.

    "Thank you, heir."

"Saylu-Sinai informed us of your escapades. I was confident that you would survive."

"Yes. The Jedi are as Saylu-Sinai used to tell us: Solemn, peace-loving monks."

"I sensed two presences that arrived with you. I assume there are Jedi."

He was curious. Understandable. Careem had never met one in person before.

"Yes. They have an...invasive nature about them. Hard to lose, like a wild womprat that follows you home."

A small smirk cracked Careem's typically expressionless visage.

    "So it seems."

    Cockpit of the Nightflyer

Kilara send the data over and looked at Sera. „The Interdictor was specifically designed for this battle. It was refined for a decade. The field is bigger than any before in history of these ships.“ She sighed. „If we go to the other side of the planet we might outrun it.“ She saw there were fighters attacking the Interdictor now.

„Forgot, you wear their robes. You are one of them?“ Sera asked and took another sharp turn to avoid a squad of TIEs.

„Was one of them, yes. There is no victory for the Third Republic and there is no survival for the Jedi. Everything was planned, every eventuality taken into accounts. Canos Zoren is a patient man, he left nothing to chance.“ She looked at Sera. „He has planned for every eventuality, every except this boy we got on board.“

Sera looked at him. „That important that little kid? Yes?“ She sighed. „Well, no pressure then.“ Looking at the data she saw the Republic was done. They would not make it to the end of the hour.

„The Interdictor is not invincible though. When the fields are up it has no shields.“ Kilara said. „Those fighters have a chance to get it, if they make it through the defensive fleet around it.“

Sera looked at her. „Are you implying what I think you are implying?“ Sera asked and Kilara raised her brows.

„Who are these guys anyway? Where is the fleet coming from?“ Sera took another turn and began to fly towards the main battle line.

„The Armada was build by the Free Systems. Sinear, Corporate Sector, Centrality, Tion of course. I was not involved withheld political matters, but whoever they believe is in charge, they are truly driven by one will and one will alone. Canos Zoren.“ Kilara gave her a sad smile. „The Master of the Legion.“

„Legion are the guys in black with red sabers I assume?“ Sera looked at the battle line and bit her lip, really making chatter while she had a more profound decision to make.

„Yes. That‘s them. I was Legion, too.“ Kilara said.

„Figured that.“ Sera said and looked at their damage report. A few scratched, but so far they had gotten through this mostly unharmed. She took the lever to accelerate her ship.

„Maybe we should just make sure this thing goes out of business ourselves.“ She finally said and speed into battle. „These fighters might need help and if we are gonna die up here, let us do it with some style.“ Sera smiled.

„Everyone get ready, we go to war!“ She yelled into comm and dived right into the metaphorical breach that were the two clashing fleets.

Saylu looked after Akeem and then waved her hand and the gates to the Throne Room of Haruun Kal opened. A nod to the guards made them stay behind as she entered it, waiting for Soa Sten to follow.

„It began with a feeling, really just a feeling something was wrong among our closest friends, in our inner circle. I trusted the head of our Honor Guard Dalok‘nun‘Tanas to investigate this feeling and whatever it was, it became infectious, like a disease. When Dalok returned from the jungle he tried to kill our Queen. I could subdue him in personal combat, imprisoned him, but the Dark Side had spread like poison. Three of our Honor Guard conspired and freed him. He tried again to kill our Queen and this time he almost succeeded. We pursued him into the jungle, but lost him near Arok Ba, the mountain ranges in the west. Ancient Temples can be found there, older than our people. My soldiers told me ships had been seen there, coming and going. They thought it were harmless smugglers, but I am afraid they were not. Dalok had since then gained followers. Not here in the capital, but among the smaller settlements. There have been attacks on military outposts and expeditions into the jungle. They say he wears a red blade of light now and has become stronger than ever. Dalok was a great warrior, but not a great user of the force. His power seems almost amplified. Tell me Jedi Knight Sten, can the Dark Side give one such power?“ Saylu lay her head aside.

    Pelek Baw, the Library

Careen gave him a knowing smile. „Our aunt anticipated their coming. She will make good use of them. Dalok betrayed us. He must be hunted down.“ He simply stated these words, as if they were not earth shattering. Dalok‘nun‘Tanas had been the Leader of the Royal Guard and the man who had trained both of them in the art of combat since childhood.

„I see you carry a lightsaber now. A Jedi‘s weapon. Have you used it?“ Careen asked and pulled his robes aside. Under them he revealed his own lightsaber. Their mother had forbidden their aunt once to create a Jedi‘s weapon if they had not been trained by the Jedi. Much had changed in the few weeks of Akeem‘s absence obviously.

„I found mine to be most useful, when I slew the traitor who tried to kill our mother.“ There was something unusual cruel in Careen. He had been hardened by the treachery of the closest thing to a father he had ever had.

    Tion

    Orbit of Tion

There was an uncomfortable long silence in the line, before the control answered.

„Your security clearance has been revoked. All security is now centralized with High Command.“ That was pretty surprising, as there had not been a High Command a few weeks ago. Tion had been part of the Free System Defense fleet, an organisation managed from Jaemus in the Corporate Sector. Indeed a lot had changed.

„As a citizen you are allowed to land in designated civil zone 3-7-2. Welcome Home Mr. Vector.“ That was all they really gave him and a lead-signal was transmitted from the sector where they were allowed to go down.

As they made their descent to the planets surface the news were broadcast. „You should really see this.“ Redmon yelled from behind and he had put the channel on the holo-table. Yes, there had been rumors the Empress had amassed a fleet since her fathers dead. But those rumors were largely understating the size of the fleet. What Valerius and Chewbacca saw on the holo table while BB-8 guided the Falcon to it‘s destination on auto-pilot was not a fleet. It was an Armada. The picture showed Corsin and a burning Third Republic fleet, surrounded by ships neither Valerius Vector nor any other citizen had seen before. Hundreds of them, surrounding massive command cruisers. This was impossibly build or acquired in the few weeks since the Empress had taken the throne. The news proudly reported that Tion had began the ‚Crusade of Liberation‘ of all the galaxy. The Free Systems were at war and they had been very prepared for the war.

Tion airspace was almost empty. The city was more busy than ever when they passed over the streets, but the only ships flying around where now TIE-X fighters, patrolling the skies. Martial Law was enforced by High Command, messages announced. All citizens were asked to follow any order given by the troops. The Empress seemed to have occupied her own planet.

Then there came lists through all channels with citizens to be apprehended for the suspicion of espionage for the enemy. Among them were the heads of many of the great houses of Tion.

„Why did I not stay in Trian?“ Redmon asked.

Valerius would have only one place to land the Falcon. the platform of Savulon, a trusted colleague of his who had made a fortune working on bounties in the Free Systems. As the ships set down Savulon approached it.

„Valerius, what a unique ship you have taken to return home.“ He greeted Valerius. „Grawll ra!“ He greeted Chewbacca as he obviously spoke Shyriiwook. „Am I mistaken or is this the great Chewbacca? I remember you from many holos I studied about the Great War.“ He made a grimace on his alien face that was possibly a smile. „You have come back home in strange times, my friend. Dangerous and strange times.“ He then turned to Valerius. „Yet, I have located the woman you seek, the one your precious princess talked to.“

    2nd Fleet, Command Cruiser Vigilance

The Vigilance lost power, only a minute after Admiral Farlander had send out the message to the High Command. He saw the holographic displays one by one die down and finally was in total darkness as he heard the rumbling of explosions echo through the ship. Then there were screams and finally he closed his eyes and heard the hull burst and shaking his head in disbelief he felt the cold of space.

The Vigilance began to descend out of the line of battle and rammed two of the larger support cruisers right below. Command was transferred to the Kenobi, who then reported their Captain being dead. Finally it was Commodore Devon Prest who took over command. „All ships, hold your lines. Reserve fleet, prepare for hyperspace. All fighters withdraw to the battle line. We need to get out of here once the Interdictor goes down.“ He did not say the words „if it ever does“, but everyone kinda heard them. The Armada was now advancing and the Third Republic fleet lost a dozen ships every minute.

    Aboard the Nightflyer, entering orbit

War was chaos and that was what Sera Romar entered when she hit the frontline. Fighters hurled past her, burning. Ships exploded from both fleets, also it appeared the Republic was hit worse. Below her a Republica-Class collided with a destroyer as it lost engines and both ships exploded in a giant fireball.

Then the Nightflyer broke through the line and was greeted with green plasma bolts from the flak batteries. Two squadrons of X-Wings followed her, as they seemed to understand what Sera was about to do.

Tanee felt her calming effect on the ships crew, but also the chaos around her. Hundreds of thousands were dying. Death was everywhere. Yet, there was something else. Something that she had not recognized before. A bond, a connection between the enemies ships, between the very souls of all members of the fleet, as if someone was coordinating them with the force.

Janis and Kya had more than enough targets now. Flak batteries that passed by, TIE-X on their way into the battlefield, TIE Crusader unloading their photon torpedoes into giant ships of the 2nd fleet.

Sera Romar was leading them into the heart of the enemy.

    The Interdictor Fleet

One their targeting computer a red circle was shown, an orange one and a green one. They expressed the zones and likelihood of a torpedo to be shot down. Only once they entered green they had the security their torpedoes were not intercepted. The six Empress-Class shielding the Interdictor began firing from all flak batteries, keeping nothing back. TIE-X swarmed from their hangars now, but probably only their first squadrons would make it in time to attack.

The twenty-five starfighters went down to twenty-two as the first wave of green energy bolts hit them. They had little room to dodge now, that their targeting was ongoing. Sidor saw Green Squadron was down to four ships. Behind them Eclipse and Quasar fought bravely to keep the TIEs at bay, but they were almost gone now. Sacrificing their lives to allow Sidor and his group one shot. One single shot.

Nineteen starfighters. Three X-Wings to their left exploded in a bright orange.

Then the sensors showed something, one detail that was a glimmer of hope. The Interdictor had no shields! To power the massive grav-field the reactor had to lower the shields.

Seventeen. Another D-Wing was vaporized and hurled out of control into Blue-6, an X-Wing.

They dived below one of the Empress-Class ships and Vanlu and Sidor heard the alarms. Proximity alert, they were targeted. One group of TIE-X had managed to get behind them.

Sixteen, as the first X-Wing exploded shot down by their pursuers.

    Rising Hazard, city of Corsin

Saleen looked at Karina and nodded. „If safety was what I seek Kamparas would probably be a good solution. I do not seek safety, soldier. I have made a promise to my apprentice and I intend to keep it. I have to find her. She might hold the key to win this war.“ The Togorian Jedi snored and then got out of the way.

Lorn entered the cockpit now. „Vigilance is down. The Admiral is dead. Battle up there is not going well. Basically they smash our fleet to pieces. Reserve fleet has evac orders, but the hyperspace entry is still blocked.“ He sighed. „They seem to try and take the ship responsible down, but I say it looks pretty bad up there.“

„Have trust, my friends. We will be able to leave.“ Saleen said calmly. „Take us to orbit.“

    Aboard the Nightflyer, going in

His little shoot-tactic took out all but one X-TIE, and of course that one was the most difficult to shoot - especially with how complicated everything around them the battle was. Drawing on the Force, he began to pick apart the X-TIE he had an angle on... and switched to targets of opportunity. He had to be careful not to hit Republic fighters, but the sky was lousy with enemy targets -

As he watched, a Republic ship was being ganged up on half a dozen X-TIEs, and Matthias focused - and just realised his backdrop, a Republic warship, exploded under a barrage from what he had managed to identify as TIE Crusaders. Blinking against the flash, he opened the internal comm to everyone. "Is it me or are we going into the heart of the battle?"

He turned his weapon, eyeing up the fulcrum of the battle; the Interdictor.

    IC: Chewbacca

    Tion

Well this wasn't good. BB-8 cooed sadly as they descended, and Chewbacca, without a word, tapped buttons to record, and divert it to the little droids memory banks. The Free Systems had declared war on the Third Republic. He recognised Imperial-esque designs; updates on the ancient Star Destroyers and TIE fighters... and Chewbacca felt his fur stiffen as he took the Millennium Falcon down.

    Treachery.

A century of relative peace; smashed. He settled down the Falcon, wary now of his passengers, but Chewbacca had every intention of being genial for as long as possible. BB-8 was especially quiet, clearly taking the hint for the first time since Rey's passing. He didn't immediately recognise the species of their greeter.

"Valerius, what a unique ship you have taken to return home." He greeted Valerius. "Grawll ra!“ He greeted Chewbacca as he obviously spoke Shyriiwook. "Am I mistaken or is this the great Chewbacca? I remember you from many holos I studied about the Great War." He made an expression that the Wookiee could not immediately decipher. "You have come back home in strange times, my friend. Dangerous and strange times." He then turned to Valerius. "Yet, I have located the woman you seek, the one your precious princess talked to.“

Chewbacca grumbled in Shyriiwook back to their greeter. "You are to assist us in our quest. Greatly appreciated," he said. "I have offered to assist Vector with his investigation. With Mandalorians pursuing him, I feel honour-bound to assist him." He didn't so feel, and he hadn't offered, but the old Wookiee could put together that a hero of the Third Republic turning up here at this precise moment might be cause for concern. But if he created the perception that he was uninvolved and already had a task, maybe he'd slip through the net.

He stayed on the ramp, though, but at the very end. His bowcaster was periodically strapped to his back, and now he wished it wasn't.

Location: Millenium Falcon, Tion orbit, then spaceport

Valerius nearly thumped the console with frustration, remembered he was not on the Electrostar and clenched his fist instead. Even denying a law enforcement officer especially a private one would be trouble but it seemed even his home planet didn't care anymore.

We are now officially a dictatorship. Nice move Empress…

As they made their way down Redmon called for him and the others to come and see something. Valerius wished he hadn't.

Corsin was indeed under attack and a Republic fleet was burning and in ruins. Valerius had a rather shocked look on his face and he felt sick to his stomach. The war had begun with a vengeance, and Valerius as a citizen of Tion might as well be considered part of the enemy war machine.

Chewbacca wasn't saying much, no surprise there as it was a lot to process. And with a Tionnese man aboard his ship even though Valerius was one of the ones trying to find out what was going on, there was no reason for Chewbacca to trust him at all.

How could the Empress come up with this fleet. Perhaps this is linked to Tara's father, everything going on behind the scenes….

Tara was the key. If she had information about her father's plan, what Toba Das knew and everything regarding her father then it would be best to grab her before she was assassinated or captured. If she and Valerius could work together as a team then they could provide the Republic with the ammunition they needed to help stop the Empress.

And I will help stop her. She will be destroyed by one of her own.

A colleague of his Savulon, an alien that had helped him many times in the past had a pad in the sector they were heading too and Valerius politely asked if Chewbacca could land there. As he stepped down the ramp Savulon greeted him and Chewbacca, and it seemed Chewbacca was,a rather famous celebrity.

The good news was that the Black Thorn had been located and she was a woman. Tara had gotten her audience with her. But Valerius got a surprise when the Wookiee said that he was helping Valerius in his case and that he would continue to do so thanks to the Mandalorians turning up.

Well this is news to me. Well at least he is not going to rip my arms off….yet. He will be keeping a sharp eye on me and I'd better make sure I can prove to him I'm one of the good guys.

Valerius turned his head to the Wookiee with his assent that he could come along. Perhaps having a Wookiee as a sort of bodyguard could be useful. Whether Redmon would also come along was another thing.

He turned back to Savulon with a slight smile, his eyes showing warmth "Good to see you too old friend" his smile faded "I wish it was under better circumstances but I am glad you got my message. With everything that was going on I wasn't sure whether communications were being monitored. Unfortunatly the Electrostar was destroyed and Captain Chewbacca kindly gave me a ride"

Valerius folded his arms casually "The galaxy is once again at war, and it needs to be stopped before we end up with more worlds like Corsin and the citizen's of the Free Systems become targets for revenge attacks. The Princess, is she still here? It is imperitve I find her but if she has gotten off I hope at least she is safe".

Valerius indicated himself "I need a quick pit stop to get changed, get a new blaster and pay Chewbacca here his credits for the ride. I need all your information you have gathered about this woman. She is hopefully might hold the key to some important information"

    The Cockpit of the Nightflyer

She accelerated the ship to maximum. There was no sense in „attack-speed“ or „maneuver-speed“, she wold simply trust her instinct and bridge that gap as fas as possible. Hurling the Nightflyer around wildly, changing sides of giant Empress-Class ships and now being escorted by a bunch of X-Wings who liked her thinking obviously she clenched her teeth and pressed air through them. „This is gonna be one wild ride.“ She hissed to Kilara. „Give me everything we got to shields and engines.“

Then she opened a channels to the crew. „Yes, correctly spotted Mr. Kya. We go right into the heart of it. Prepare yourself.“ She simply answered.

This was war and in a strange way Sera Romar felt she was right where she belonged, right where she had always meant to be. Like all her fancy flying had really just prepared her for today. Where every bit of her skills would be needed to survive.

She was at war and it felt kinda right.

The Throne Room of Haruun Kal, Pelek Baw, Haruun Kal

It was the room of a mighty ruler, of a conqueror, showing greatness and power. Nothing betrayed humbleness here, it was a monument of hybris. Soa said nothing though and followed Saylu Bestat into the large hall, listening closely to the tale of a treacherous leader of their Royal Guard.

„That must have been hard for the Queen, betrayed by someone that close to her. Well, was there any reason for the betrayal? A disagreement about politics? A personal involvement? I assure you the Dark Side can grant access to many powers, not all of them natural. It demands a high price, though. Dalok will need more power. It becomes an addiction.“ She thought about this. „Yet, my presence might be an advantage. Those who would not speak to you, might speak to an off-wordless. Maybe I can locate the man and help you to bring him to justice.“

She wondered if she helped the right side though. It was possible the enemy had reached out to a man close to the monarchy to seed chaos on this world to prepare the next steps. Yet, was the Queen really serving the light? She was a conqueror herself. Aggressive and hungry to expand her sphere of power.

Soa would need to be careful here. She had been here for mere minutes and yet she was already aware these were muddy waters to navigate, where friend and foe would be hard to keep apart.
