Well, so long as you have total controll of it on a personal basis. but never trust others to do so that you don't know on a personal basis. Cause you can never tell what they will do.

 

Are you talking about student union fees? Because, seriously, something needs to be done about that. For starters, it's compulsory... compulsory union membership. I'm not saying the union doesn't do good things, but why not pay the money directly to the uni and bypass all those extra salaries?

Sorry, getting a little distracted there. My point, the fees add up to the multi-millions per year, where does it go?

 

One of the focuses of the Liberal campaign at UQ is to push for VSU or Voluntary Student unionism.

Unforunetly, according to state law, unionism in univeristies is compulsory, no matter what any academic board or anything the students may say.

As a result, you get students who pay their $$$ and never use the union, and you get students who frequently do use it, and use the money soemtimes for the wrong reasons (like environment money used for bus trips to Woomera can you believe)

 

No system is perfect, the trouble is trying to please everybody. It can't be done for what one will consider a boon, another will see as a something to complain about.

Of course I can't say what the ins and outs of Uni life is. Only from what I hear and observe. Which is to say not much.
