kylo was dying too when Rey impaled him with a lightsaber. Rey healed him and didn’t appear to be weakened.

Yess she was weakened, when she healed the snake she was weakened and only lasted so long with Kylo then again with Kylo. It dosen't show in movie so mutch but she was weakened each time she did it. Like baby Yoda were and fell asleep.

okay, but there’s still no on-screen explanation as to why Obi-Wan couldn’t heal Qui-Gon, or why Anakin didn’t know he could heal Padme if she has complications during childbirth. The only thing that makes sense is that Anakin and Obi-Wan didn’t know about Force healing, so it must be an extremely rare ability.

Simple they had to sacrifice their own life's like Ben did to Rey as they dying or close to death.

Rey healed Kylo from a mortal wound (impaled by a lightsaber exactly like Qui-Gon ) and didn’t die.

yeah, Rey was dead period. Glassy open eyes, Finn's Oh No Reey, unresponsive to Ben's attempts to wake her. To bring that back you have to do full exchange. Snake and Kylo were wounded but alive so Rey didn't have to give it all to heal them. On top of that, Ben was injured from the pitfall. Rey was healthy when she healed the Snake and Ben. So I don't know if Ben's weakened state contributed to his death but I think that the point was that he gave his life for her regardless of his health. Injury only made it more harrowing. Also, lets give OB1 a break. He was just a Padawan, not Sheev's granddaughter who read Jedi books that PT Jedi didn't know about and who was 1/2 of a powerful force dyad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Luke did distance Force healing on Leia in TLJ, no?Or was he just communicating with her? She woke up right after he connected with her.

he was just connecting with her and she felt him. But even after recovery her body was failing. the force saved her but also slowly killed her until she gave in and saved her son.

Luke: The Force exhaustion is strong in my family. My grandmother died of it. I died of it. And my sister died of it. Oh, damn, my nephew too now!

that’s what I’m saying. The PT Jedi clearly don’t know about force healing, otherwise Anakin would have known that he could use it to try to save Padme. This is odd, considering they have access to tons of Jedi records, so you’d think at least some of the Jedi would know about force healing.

Isn’t telekinesis, the Jedi mind trick, using a lightsaber, basically EVERYTHING the Jedi do count as dangerous power in the wrong hands?

yess, but force healing and force resurection can be used by the sith as acorrupt horrible power. Like Palpatine does the force stealing, taking life force for himself and that is perversion of force healing, probaly something similar with resurection.

this is an excellent point. Palpy's selfish Force stealing is nicely juxtaposed with Force healing/resurrection as acts of compassion/unconditional love/selflessness. TROS has its moments.

okay, so the Jedi can teach their padawans to not use force healing for evil. I don’t see any need for them to suppress all knowledge of it. They seem to be pretty successful at preventing Jedis from turning to the dark side, they’ve only lost 20 members in their entire history.

resurrection isn't natural even if done for the noblest, most selfless of causes.

So I would say that what Ben Solo did is pretty questionable still. He gave his life for Rey's which is selfless, but, at the same time, he didn't accept her death as a natural part of life. So it's really Anakin's "I can't live without her" in a different way. Anakin wanted to save Padme so that she would be with him, while Ben saved Rey so that she could live even without him. But it was important for him that she lived thus reversing the natural part of life into [unnatural] return to life. It's still shadow of greed when you think about it.

Point being, if we go by their philosophy, everyone slipped into the Dark Side at least once. Force got used for attack rather than just defense and knowledge. Giving one's life to resurrect another life is not accepting the natural order of things. Etc.

I’m not talking about resurrecting someone from the dead, I’m talking about Force healing. If Force healing was a thing the PT Jedi knew about, then Anakin’s first thought upon having his premonition would be that he needs to use Force healing to save her *before* she dies. He clearly doesn’t know about Force healing, so I can only conclude that the PT Jedi also don’t know about if either. This seems strange to me, since Rey learns about it from Jedi texts. Also, baby Yoda can Force heal without training. So even if they were irrationally scared to teach Force healing for fear of other Jedi learning how to resurrect the dead, you would still have some Jedi figuring it out on their own and it would be difficult to keep it a secret.

So the only thing that makes sense to me is that Force healing is a very difficult technique that only rare individuals can accomplish, such as members of a dyad, or members of Yoda’s species.

I think the fact that Force Healing requiring the healer to give up a bit of their life thereby weakening them significantly is reason enough to not use the power often. At the time of the Republic access to medical supplies was probably extremely easy for the average Republic citizen.

I don't really need much more explanation for it than that. The Jedi were fighting a war and didn't want to weaken themselves in the midst of that.

yeah, but it also seems like a skill that would be useful to have. Jedi can get stranded or otherwise isolated from other people and resources during missions or battles. If your ship crashes on a remote planet and all your medical supplies are destroyed, Force healing would be pretty advantageous.

I’ve only seen TROS once, but I don’t recall Rey being noticeably weakened after healing the snake or Kylo.
