    According to wikipedia, a flaming arrow was the goat's demise in 2005 on December 3rd and was reconstructed on the 5th.

    Has anyone discussed with local officials the extent to which international interest in the Goat depends on it burning down? You'd think they would have some intentional lapses in security built into their plan.

    They should just start ceremonially burning the goat rather than taking it down at the end of the Christmas season. That keeps the ticking clock element for hopefuls while still guaranteeing sweet, sweet immolation.

    The love of fire is more primal. We needed to know the majesty of fire before we could know the majesty of burning down things people built, and all of civil society had to be invented by someone declaring they could own something so that someone else could illegally burn it down. It’s all there in Rousseau’s On the Arson Contract.

    So my brother-in-law was admitted to hospital today, so it turns out I will probably be the one who has to drive and get his daughter for Christmas. Where does the daugher live? Gävle of course.
