With some encouragement from a friendly GM, I have decided to propose my idea of a game.

This is inspired by the game and would be titled Crash!: The bankrupt game.

It would be a game where each player gets 7 "cards". The hand would be made up of property cards and/or event cards. Each of the players would have a set amount of money and the point of the game is to make the other players go bankrupt and for you to be left on top.

Event cards can be good things like parties or rise in stocks, or bad things like an earthquake or a riot. The idea is that event cards can raise your money or property value and decrease others.

EX. Player B owns a Casino in California, so Player A plays the RIOT card in California and it decreases the income of the casino and maybe damages the casino itself. Making Player B lose money.

Every player would have to post what property they own and where, but they would be able to keep their event cards a secret. Event cards would be played in PMs, secretly, and the amount of money each player has left would be posted by me in the thread.

Property cards have their own purpose besides being targets. They can increase the income of the players by day.

EX: Player B owns a Casino. So everyday they receive $500+.

Of course, I'm still running through the thought process of this game, but this is just to see if anyone thinks this is a good idea or if it has been done before.

I have not really been paying attention as much as I should be in the C&G.:p

Also, is the 20 Questions game still running?

That game would have some potential. Could you post sample cards?

Well the "cards" would not actually be cards per se. I guess I went to far with the board game's influence. The hand is made up of just a list of property and events you have. You would then play them in the best way you see fit.

Really, you are playing the hand you are dealt.

I would tell, or randomly give, the players what cards they would play during the game.

I also forgot to address the idea of turns. There would not be turns, but 24 hour periods would decide alot. The game is player driven by their want to make others go bankrupt.

Though, when the game reached a certain time, I could just tally up who has the most money and they automatically win.

So, I was bored, and had an empty afternoon, so I decided to convert another obscure game, this time one which I had the (mostly) complete rules of. :p

[image=http://www.cardhaus.com/images/bgHoityToity.jpg]

Hoity Toity

"Avid collectors in the once dignified London "Antique Club" have entered into an unusual wager. Its goal is to show the largest and most valuable collection at each of several castles. The objects in the collections are as vulgar as the bet: pipes, chamber pots, masks, celebrity souvenirs, toys, and old advertising placards.

The lords, in taking on their rolls in the game, can take either of two different actions. In the auction house they can look for opportunities to expand their collection. In the castle they can gain points by displaying their collection. Since they adhere to the motto "The end justifies the means" they can also let loose a thief, or attempt to catch competing thieves with their detective and put them in jail.

The crux of this game is that every player is involved at every time. What will make the difference is that you are in the right place at the right time, in order to take the best action available. You will need light fingers, understanding of your fellow players, a dose of bluffing, as well as a little bit of luck."

Welcome to Hoity Toity, the game of antique collection! A fiver-player event based around a board of 40 spaces, your goal will be to advance the farthest while at the same time trying to create the most valuable collection of antiques possible, and prevent your rivals from stealing your precious treasures away from you!

Start

Cards will be dealt out. Each player will receive 4 checks (totaling £50,000), 4 antiques, 2 thieves, and 1 detective.

Phase I

Each player will send a private message to the game host containing the words "Auction House" or "Castle." This will be their location for the next phases. The Auction House will grant them a chance to increase the value of their collection, while the Castle may permit you to advance along the board.

Phase II (Auction House)

Each player may play a Check or a Thief at the Auction House by sending the host a private message with the card they wish to play. The cards will then be revealed and compared. The player with the highest valued check may take one of two randomly selected items presented from the Auction House to add to their collection, while all the other played checks will be returned to their owner's hands. If a single Thief was played, then the highest valued check will instead be handed over to the Thief's owner. If multiple Thieves are played, they will cancel each other out and return to their owner's hands. This phase will be skipped if no checks are played or all remaining antiques have been purchased.

Phase III (Castle)

Here, each player may private message the host with one of three options; to Exhibit their collection, or to play a Thief or Detective. All antiques have one of five letters attached, and an exhibited collection must only contain antiques with multiples of these letters or those that are in order (minimum: three antiques must be displayed). For example: AABB, CCD, EEE, and DEF would all be valid. AAC, BCF, or DE would not. The player with the most antiques in their collection will advance 2, 3, or 4 spaces, determined randomly. If only one player exhibits, they are determined to have succeeded automatically. If two or more players have equal-sized exhibits, they will be ranked according to the age (listed on the card) of their oldest antiques. The player with the second largest or most valued collection will advance 1, 2, or 3 spaces, according to how far the first-ranked player advances.

If a player chooses to play a Thief card, then the Thief will steal one item (of their owner's choice) from each collection being exhibited. Each Thief card is assigned a number, and their thefts will be resolved in order according to highest to lowest. If no Detective card has been played,

Hmm, this sounds interesting.

2 questions: if the theives are in jail but can steal anyway, what's the point of using a detective? Also, once the player reaches space 40 and they all display, does that include the one on the last space, so he/she can advance farther, so he/she still wants a big number to advance because landing on the last space doesn't mean an automatic win?

While the Thieves are in Jail, they can't steal. Only the steals in progress when they're caught go through. Presuming that's what you meant.

As for the player on the last space, no, they don't advance any further. 40 is as far as you can go. That's why you want a big enough collection in case somebody else jumps all the way up behind you.

So what if the person who can advance 8 after the last exhibition is less than 8 spaces behind?

Okay. How do the theives get out, or do they just stay in jail?
How many times can a detecive be moved?

Then they advance to the 40th space along with the player who is already there, and then they compare collections to determine the winner.

"Whenever there are five Thieves in Jail, if a sixth Thief is captured, then the Thief with the highest number will be returned to his owner's hand."

Detective, I'm still trying to find that out, actually. The actual game's rules are unclear as to whether you get failed detectives back into your hand after playing them.

Oh, okay, they they just hang out in there until they get sprung.

And I gotcha on the winner now :) And for the detectives, if you can't find it, you can make it up since I doubt many of us have played this ;)

Considering the number of Detectives and the number of Thieves, I think we can just set it so they return regardless of success.

And since it's semi-obscure German game translated into an obscure UK game and then converted into an even more obscure American game, I'd be surprised if anyone had. :p

Mad Libs, Star Wars edition

From Wikipedia:

Mad Libs consist of a book that has a short story on each page, but with many of the key words replaced with blanks. Beneath each blank is specified a lexical or other category, such as noun, verb, place, or a part of the body. One player asks the other players, in turn, to contribute some word for the specified type for each blank, but without revealing the context for that word. Finally, the completed story is read aloud. The result is usually comic, surreal and somewhat nonsensical.

How will the Star Wars edition be played?

There will be as many rounds as there are players. So let?s say there are six players, which in turn will mean six rounds. Every round, one of the players will serve as a judge.

At the beginning of each round, I will choose a text from Star Wars, which I will not show. Here, as an example, I?ve chosen a line from Admiral Motti:

"Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' hidden fortress..."

I will choose which of the words that I want to be replaced and I will then post a list for the players.

For example:
1. Adjective
2. Noun
3. Plural noun
4. Adjective
5. Noun

It?s then up to the players to PM me back the words within 24 hours and I will then post the different variations on the text. I will not reveal which text belongs to which player, since the current judge will have to pick the text he or she thinks is the funniest.

Let?s continue the example. Player 1 sends me this list of words:

1. Nutty
2. Cupcake
3. Dolls
4. Yummy
5. Candy

The text will then be:

"Your nutty devotion to that ancient cupcake has not helped you conjure up the stolen dolls, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the rebels' yummy candy..."

After six rounds, the winner is the player with the most picks.

So, what do you think?

My husband tarkinsteeth and I were talking about The Match Game. If you are not familiar with it, click the link. It is very funny. Much easier to read the link than for me to explain. But Dan, my hubby, organizes it for his work and I could certainly help maintain it. (He would make the questions.)

We could make a list for the 6 [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelists[/hl], and wait for them to fill up first. Then do the list for the 2 contestants.

When the lists are filled up, we would post the Question for [hl=skyblue]Contestant 1[/hl] and give the [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelists[/hl] 24 hours to give their answers via PM, and all the while, [hl=skyblue]Contestant 1[/hl] will be thinking of his or her answer, so he or she will have 24 hours as well.

Once all the [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelists'[/hl] answers are in, we post that it is time for [hl=skyblue]Contestant 1[/hl] to POST his or her answer. Then we will post the answers from the [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelists[/hl]. We will give points based on each similar (mostly exact) answer. (1 point per correct answer). Some answers can be similar, like "Underwear" can be "panties" or "knickers".

We repeat the process for [hl=burlywood]Contestant 2[/hl]. OR, we can post both questions at one time and do [hl=skyblue]Contestant 1[/hl] and [hl=burlywood]Contestant 2[/hl] simultaneously to speed it up (making sure each know which question belongs to whom). There will be 2 rounds to the game and the one with the most points moves on to the [hl=purple]Bonus Round[/hl].
[hl=purple]Bonus Round:[/hl]
There is a "phrase" like "The Long _____." (Possible answers are "run" or "way.") The winner picks one person from the [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelists[/hl] and has to match the phrase exactly. The chosen [hl=orange]Celebrity Panelist[/hl] PM's his or her answer and the Contestant POSTS his or her answer when we say we are ready.
Dan and I can put these questions on index cards and randomly pick them out so nobody gets discrimnated against. It is very popular at his work. Sorry, I used tarkinsteeth's real name. I forget.
Did I confuse anyone?
I like the idea of using SW questions. For example... "R2-D2 was SOOO short (How short was he???), that when his photoreceptors catch a glimpse of Vader, all he can see is the Dark Lord's _____." But we can also use other questions. Use your imagination. It is supposed to be funny. (Lightsaber would be a good answer, as well as underwear, etc...be clean, but the show was suggestive as well, hence, "lightsaber." This is a family forum, right?)

PM me with questions. Not sure if it has been suggested. I looked a little.
