Thrawn is being set up as the main villain of the Filoniverse. No question about it.

I agree. I'm a big MCU fan but also think SW should be approached differently.

Now as far as future stories go...I don't will next season be Boba and Fennec in Tatooine or is Din's story over? I think you have to address the Darksaber issue w/Bo-Katan and him. It can't be left hanging.

Now as far as Thrawn goes I don't see him appearing in this show but rather Ahsoka.

Thrawn has been mentioned once. I hope it’s more nuanced than him just being evil and the big bad

That Thrawn is probably going to be the main antagonist of this era is very true, but nothing new, really. He was so prominent in Legends, as we all know, that the books he appeared ended up being known as the Thrawn Trilogy. What I´m saying is that I´m really eager to a change in the narrative from this "4 heroes go in a hallway, without cover, killing dozens of Stormtroopers without getting a single casualty because Stormtroopers cannot hit anything, wink".

Thrawn hopefully won't be presented as more dangerous because he can throw (Thrawn haha) more Stormtroopers at them, but because he is going to outsmart them. Now, its difficult to surpass a rival that can beat your soldiers every time without suffering a single casualty, but there must be a way of portraying the Imperials as successful in beating the mandalorians, seeing that Mandalore is regarded as a complete victory for the Empire. Sadly, we haven't gotten the chance to remotely see that in the Mandalorian, but with Thrawn we could start getting changes in that regard...

I don't get the fascination with Thrawn, or the want for him to be the new big baddie. Rebels came along and basically castrated him. For someone who was supposedly a mastermind tactician, he couldn't defeat that tiny little Rebel cell. Hell, he was outsmarted by Space Aladdin and sucked across space by hyperspace whales. So aside from the fact he should be dead after being dragged through outer space, he was shown as basically incompetent.

Thrawn one flaw is the force so he dosen't understand it, and it was his officers failure that let the rebels get away. Also Tarkin making more harder for him.

That tiny Rebel Cell doesn't have half of its frigates come ANH due to Thrawn.

and Green Squadron? That disappeared for awhile. Took till ROTJ with all new ships to reform.

I hope they put in the battle from HTTE where he trashes the Elomin-led NR task force with a Marg Sabl. Whether in Ahsoka, Rangers, or some other show.

That's why you got New Republic, mandalorians, possible crime syndicates and pirates against The Grand Admiral.

Oh you just know sooner or later everyone's favorit space pirate will soon come. We know he's still alive post TROS. I think he can gather a small pirate force. I don't know where he fits in best. Book of boba Fett?, Mandalorian?, Ahsoka?, Ranger of the new republic?

Or at least something close to it, which gives him conventional military power because this:
...Shows what Thrawn’s skill-set is: he’s a master of conventional warfare, and has enough strategic skill to manipulate that kind of confrontation with an insurgency that otherwise must avoid it at all costs in Rebels.

Killing a cell can be easy if you can find it and contain it... but it’s a cell, a single microscopic component of a larger body, and one that by and large won’t be missed too much if eradicated. So even if you can properly counter the evasiveness of the cell, which can be difficult given their size and survival strategies, the strategic victory of killing them is often expensive in resources, even if the expense in resources is objectively small.

Rebels Season Three was smart to justify Thrawn allowing Hera and co. to escape their first confrontation so that he could ambush them right at the moment they’ve gathered enough logistical material, leadership and personnel that he could wipe out most of their logistical apparatus and capture their leadership for interrogation... with the only thing stopping him from complete victory being a Force storm with sentience and an idiot and disobedient subordinate.

He then proceeded to successfully outmaneuver and oversee the death and capture of two different space wizards. The fact one could summon magic space whales is the kind of thing you can’t find verified in an intel report.

This is fun to read in Lars Mikkelsen's voice.

And somewhat unnervingly, the purrgil card has been played now. So Thrawn is aware of it, and of course it's narratively more interesting to not just make the same move twice.

I don’t get why anybody likes anything. I mean, why do people like things? What’s there to like about things, especially things that suck? Weird.

I’m just curious how the various series will depict the actual large scale space battles that are usually required from having Thrawn be the main antagonist of a story.

I've seen the error of my ways. I'll never be critical of anything Star Wars ever again. I'll never question why anyone likes anything in Star Wars again. Thrawn? Resurrect him and have him be the new bad guy. Greatest Idea EVER!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be the best Star Wars to ever Star Wars in the history of Star Wars.

Effects-wise, that’s probably one bit of technology that’s quite well developed for a TV budget, considering all the TV shows that have worked with space effects over the last few decades. Of course, ILM has always been at the top of the game, so maybe they would not want to give anything less than their best, which would limit how much time/money can be dedicated to space battles.
