The Jedi Civil War began when Darth Revan And Darth Malak led the their forces in an attack on the Republic which was weakened by the Mandalorian War. They took advantage of the situation and nearly brought the Republic to it's knees, if not for the trap set by the Jedi, with Jedi Knight Bastila Shan who fought Revan herself. This war is connected to the Mandalorian Civil Wars, as both Darth Revan and Darth Malak fought the Mandalorians after leaving the Jedi Order. They led former Jedi and Republic troops into battle, and helped defeat the Mandalorians and their conquering of the galaxy. They were viewed as heroes, until they turned to the darkside.

The knowledge that the Jedi gained, was that Darth Revan and Darth Malak were both mislead by the Sith, and that it was one of the most destructive wars in our Jedi History. I don't believe they could have been prevented, not unless the Jedi had somehow kept Darth Revan and Darth Malak away from the Mandalorian Wars, of course that could have ended as a very different history for us. Darth Revan and Darth Malak encountered the Sith in the Unknown Regions, but even if they hadn't gone; someone else would have. And there would just be different names in our History books. I'm not sure how I would have reacted. I would want to do the right thing, but I also would want to help as many people as I could.

For her extracurricular Jedi activities, I would like to reward BookExogorth 3pts for compiling and adding some narrative to the story of Skyla putting the younglings to bed over in fan fiction. Also 5pts for your on-going duel in the Rancor Pit with the darksider.

I hope my other padawan is mindfully observing your good example. ;)

Here is your next task Loth-cat

Imagine during your travels as a councilor you come across a fallen Jedi, not a Sith but a former member of the Guardians of the Light who has fallen to the darkside. You don´t know why he left the order but you can remember that he heavily wounded another Jedi before he fled. He seems to be pretty dangerous and threatens you with his lightsaber but doesn´t attack you immediately. Though you feel that beneath his threats he is tormented by the dark side influencing him. How do you approach this situation as a councilor? (I will continue this little story/question based on your answer)

It's hard to imagine what could have been. Infinite variations and possibilities. Some think it's futile to dwell on the past, but it's in the past that we see clearest. It's from our past that learn and become better.

In many ways the Mandalorian Wars start quite a while before the war itself, which is also debatable in terms of start date. In 4024 BBY the Mandalorians began expanding their territory closer to Republic space. The first major attack made was the extermination of the people of Nevoota. By 4017 BBY the Mandalorians had reached the Core worlds and begun an assault on the Bailisk. The Basilisk ended the conflict by flooding their own homeworld with toxins in order to force the Mandalorians off it, however the Mandalorians stole many Lagartoz dragons and Basilisk war droids.

After another successful campaign in the Deep Core system of Kuar the Mandalorians made their attempt on the Empress Teta system in 3996 BBY. The Force clearly had other plans however for fallen Jedi Knight Ulic Qel-Droma had taken over the Krath cult and joined forces with Exar Kun, the two where now commanding a newborn Sith. The Mandalorian's initial assault on the Krath went off smoothly making Mandalore the Indomitable feel very safe in him abilities. Ulic decided to surrender on one condition; the two of them duel and if Ulic wins then the Mandalorians must serve him loyally. Mandalore faced Ulic while on his Basilisk war droid while Ulic had no mount and was unable to stay on solid ground, despite that Ulic tossed his saber aside to prove a point and proceeded to beat Mandalore down with his bare hands before taking one of his own weapons and dominating Mandalore the Indomitable.

The Mandalorians now served the Sith Brotherhood where present for the attack on Coruscant. Soon after the Mandolorians where involved in the assault on Onderon. The Beast Riders and the Republic fleet defeated the Mandolorians who retreated. In said retreat Mandolore the Indomitable was yet again dominated, this time for good.

Another Mandalorian found his mask and became Mandalore the Ultimate. Ultimate met an emissary of a Sith lord who claimed to have a vision of Mandalorian forces controlling all of Republic space, unbeknownst to him this vision was all a lie from the secret Emperor Vitiate in order to spark a war.

Upon learning of this vision, Ultimate led the Mandalorians in a crusade in which they began taking bits of the Republic colonial space.

In 3976 BBY the Mandalorians attacked Althir III which led to their fleet growing even more with new resources. By 3973 BBY the Mandalorians began oppressing the Cathar, murdering more than 90% of the race’s population.

The Republic began its involvement here, it sent a fleet to Dxun and Taris in order to hold off Mandalorian forces. Serrco and Nouane were among the planets that the Republic was unable to defend. The Republic took back the galactic north with the help of Zabrak forces, winning Ithor and Irdonia for the Republic.

In retaliation the Neo Crusaders made a central push that was suddenly halted by their forces that where prepped on Jebble to take on Alderaan suddenly being destroyed. This was caused by a Neo Crusader named Pulsipher unleashing the Murr Talisman’s power to transform people into monsters called Rakghoul.

While this went on, the galactic south was being razed, the Mandalorians butchered and devastated Eres, Azure, and Contruum. The Mandalorians heavily crippled the Republic at Commenor and they proceeded to to massive damage to Duro.

At this time the Jedi where not involved in the conflict. The council had sensed that a great darkness would come if the Jedi where to become involved in the conflict. Many Jedi however disagreed with this call. This movement of Jedi who wanted to help the Republic was lead by a knight known as Revan who was followed by fellow knights such as Malak and Meetra Surik.

They were supplied with Centurion and Hammerhead cruisers as well as the newly invented gravity well projector which allowed the Republic to pull enemy ships out of hyperspace.

Revan and his forces prevented the Mandalorians from utterly ravaging Duro and prevented any escape. Due to these actions, Supreme Chancellor Tol Cressa named Revan commander of the military.

Revan and his forces did many questionable things in the name of protecting the galaxy, such as leaving planets defenseless and going farther than needed to beat the Mandalorians. It is clear in hindsight that Revan made a decent into the dark side throughout the war finally culminating in the battle of Malachor V in 3960 BBY.

Revan set out to end the battle with one final act that would show just how far the Jedi had fallen, he ordered the activation of a super weapon known as the Mass Shadow Generator. It created a gravitational vertex which crushed the planet as well and the Mandalorian and Republic fleets. He put Meetra Surik in charge of activating it while he waited outside the system for the right time to strike.

Revan arrived and was challenged to one on one combat by Ultimate. Revan defeated Mandalore the Ultimate before taking the mask of the fallen Neo Crusader and vowing to not stop till he utterly stopped the Mandalorians as well as the enemy that lied silently in the darkness according to Mandalore the ultimate in his final moments, a Sith Empire like no other the galaxy had ever seen.

Once the Mandalorian forces were backed up to Malachor, Meetra activated the Mass Shadow Generator while her and Revan were out of its range. The two watched in horror as their evil act took a catastrophic death toll.

At that Revan took his forces into the shadows until he would later return, sparking the Jedi Civil War while Meetra went to willingly face trial for what she had taken part in.

Now to get into the debate; I feel that the Jedi did need to get involved with the war. However Revan was just plain wrong for what he did. The man was unstable and had a god complex. I would strongly argue that all his talk of necessary sacrifices and of how much he hated causing death shows just how much of a warmongerer he was deep down. He latched himself onto the abstract notion of the Republic and did everything he could to protect it despite never defining what it really was that he was protecting, it can be argued he cared about the majority of life under the Republic’s reign but honestly I feel he had already lost himself and used that as an excuse.

The Jedi did need to be involved in the war, but Revan and his people where not Jedi after all they did. I am in agreement with light side Meetra who agreed with Revan in getting involved when the council said otherwise, but regretted that she did not see how far Revan had descended and how the effort became about extermination more than protection.

Honestly I dislike what SWTOR did, I prefer the idea that Revan just plain broke and his attack on the Republic was his finally seeing that he was already totally gone and just wanted to control and dominate. His redemption at the hands of the Jedi was not bringing redeeming his acts as a Sith lord but rather restoring the man he was before he went off to war and having that man see just how evil he was at his core thus giving him a chance to stop that evil from taking over him. It is almost like a time travel story in which someone sees their future self and changes who they are based on that…….of my god Revan is Scrooge!!!

Lost himself indeed, Revan was the brilliant comet of intention that burned out with devastating consequences. Similar to the legacy of Anakin Skywalker, a more recent example of history repeating itself perhaps?

The cruel calculus of war. Sacrifice 10,000 to save 100,000. May you never have to make such a decision padawan. 6pts for your thorough report. vncredleader
An additional 2pts for the Scrooge reference. [Too good.]

OOC: I really enjoyed the Revan novel. His meeting with Atris in the temple tower was telling of the man he had been. Atris had her own problems but I can't imagine how many other Jedi had a crisis of motivation caused by Revan. Meetra in particular.

I have a couple of announcements to make one congratulatory and one of the RP nature.

    1. Not sure how many of you noticed but the old banner that graced the OP of this thread was lost due to the photobucket third party hosting issue that has cropped up. I edited out the "broken" link, but the OP still looked rather threadbare, so Corellian_Outrider graciously volunteered some of his own precious time to design us a new one, and I think he did a wonderful job. You all really should go check it out. Thanks again Outrider, it's gorgeous and perfect for the club.
    2. On the RP side, I know it's been a couple of weeks and change since my last update. I've been waiting on a response or two before I go ahead with my next post. However, I do have most of my next update written and ready to go (really just one segment is blank) and will be posting it tomorrow. So if anyone hasn't posted yet and would like to before my next update, today is the time.
