Arena Hello Out There, We're On the Air: The Hockey Thread (OVIE PASSES GRETZKY!)

Holy crap the Canucks are horrid.

 

My only two requests after this season are: 1) can we please keep the divisions the way they are, because the all-Canadian division is breathing life into my soulless husk every day, and 2) can we please add a team in Halifax or Quebec City so the teams are even.

 

It won't be Halifax. Quebec has an arena ready and waiting already, don't they?

 

They do, for like the last ten or so years, I think? I could be wrong on that. I think Quebec City is the most likely, but Halfix would be my preference. I’d like to see at least one team in the Maritimes, and I’ll go ballistic if they put a team in Hamilton. No need for another so close to the Leafs or Sabers when there are other markets.

 

They can finally break out the Siberian husky uniform design that’s been sitting on the shelf since 1995.

 

As long as Bettman is commish I don't see another Canadian team coming. It would have to be a similar situation like when Atlanta moved to Winnipeg when they had no other options. I still remember his press conference when they announced the move and he passive aggressively said something like "This does not work if we don't sell out every single home game" which is something he would never say about a new American expansion team. You could just tell he was so bitter about it.

Unfortunately I was only a year old, so I can't speak to how good it was I would however be thrilled to see at least a couple of Canadian expansion teams, or more realistically relocations from weaker American markets, like Florida or Arizona.

Bettman can eat a puck.

 

I would love to see a team in Halifax. I'd never move. But our arena is too small (~11 000) and there's not a lot of appetite for stadium and arena building. Our population is only a bit over half of Winnipeg's. Maybe folks from Truro, the South Shore or the Annapolis Valley would drive to watch a game, but a place like Moncton is full of people who think Moncton is the centre of the universe, so you really can't count on them driving the ~4 hour trip to watch hockey that by rights should be in Moncton (regardless of how absurd the idea of an NHL team in Moncton would be). Halifax isn't a great candidate despite the metro region giving the world Crosby, McKinnon and that miserable Marchand.

 

Pain.

 

I went from “Ha, we’re kicking the Senators to the curb, Ottawa is steaming trash this year!” to pretending I’d never heard of hockey very, very quickly.

 

So uh are the Leafs officially the best in the NHL? Not having half your sked canned due to COVID probably helps

 

I mean points wise they are but people should be cautious considering the division they're in.
