ST I Have A Bad Feeling About This - The "Haters" Sanctuary

See I quite like the idea that the Darth Plagueis book set up, that the Sith worked for 200 years to unbalance the Force, thought they'd won by succeeding at it and then the Force did a counterstroke of its own by creating Anakin in response. But none of that was actually confirmed, just hinted at. It's Legends now but interesting idea.

 

Fun fact: She now essentially fills Solo's role as well, as the new captain of the Falcon.

She's *that* special.

 

I feel attacked

 

Just to count the most glaring symptoms of (bad) fan fiction:

0) Not written by the author of the original story;
1) Set in the world of original story;
2) Introduced the protagonist who is pretty much perfect in doing something or everything but(!) lacking personality or having personality replaced with "fake brightness";
3) Most or every character from the original story adore new protagonist (usually for no reason, just for protagonist's existence);
4) Original villains suddenly find protagonist very important;
5) Introcuded new powers, lore, information or mcguffing that breaks pre-established laws and rules of the original story;
6) Other characters, OC or old, are mostly irrelevant.

I mean, hey, we have a winner.

7) Forgot to add - total inferiority in writing skills compared to the author of the original story.

 

7) Thinly veiled inferiority complex that requires the source material to be reclaimed, recycled and updated to appease an idiosyncratic taste.

 

OK, I've officially decided that "I am Rey Skywalker" is my least favorite leak about this movie. I hate Rey Palpatine. I hate Reylo. I hate the lack of Anakin and Luke. But something about Rey Skywalker annoys me to an exponential level. I can't even fully explain why. It's just like nails on a chalkboard for me. Using the Big Mac metaphor, it's like serving the Big Mac at the French Laundry and thinking your fooling the customer. Aaaaargh!

 

Dear Disney,

first of all, if you did at least something right this thread should never exist.
It's all your fault. A lot of fans around the world (especially outside the US) give a crap about your agenda, about your redefinition what a "family" is. About your defintion of redemption and about "let the past die". Last but not least about your "new and progressive" characters. Only a few are able to relate to them.....somehow.
Past can be great. Family is "family". Deal with it. A family is a vulnerable plant that needs to be pampered and protected. You cannot "force" it. A hero is a hero and a villain is a villain. Period. These things are not up for discussion.
Luke is a Jedi, Leia not. You cannot change things in a single scene. Luke is a hero and not a loser and the key of SW we saw so far - no director will change that. Rey is a hero but honestly somehow she does not deserve it. Put your crap where the sun never shines and stop your agenda garbage and start to focus on stories that are good.
GL knew how to do good and reasonable, feasible stories that appeal to all and that was the key for his success.
No matter how your "I want to be at your gala dinner" press sees it - the GA still has the classic values in their mind and you keep firing them up with every attempt of idiotic explanation you publish. You betrayed all these values latest with TLJ.
Next time you guys do a trilogy - have Vader praise Palps and let Vader throw Bob Iger and KK into the reactor shaft - it would be still a better deal than what we saw so far.

Daisy said at Brazil Comic Con that Rey's legacy will be that anyone can choose their own family. Which basically means that Rey Palpatine and "I am Rey Skywalker" is real.

 

This film will be dire.

5: Kylo turning good after Rey heals him and seeing a vision of Han.

4: Luke and Lando search for his kidnapped daughter. (Like why of all characters doew Jannah need a backstory connected to the OT heroes)

3: Wayfinder device map to Palpatine. (For crying out loud its the same plot as TFA)

2: Rey taking the name Skywalker

1: Rey, granddaughter of Palpatine!?!?! (This makes it the Palpatine Saga. Unforgivable!

 

Isn’t there a leak saying they have to find a blade that has the coordinates to a waypoint (I still have no idea what that even is) written on it?

I honestly hate that more than Rey Palpatine. Not by much but it still manages to edge out the win.

Nearly confirms Rey "Skywalker"

 

The concept of adopted family for adults only works in Hollywood movies if the "daddy" is Dominic Toretto, or if that family is literally the mafia.

 

Gotta love how she spends her entire life wanting her parents back. Finds out they died protecting her. And then she meets her grandpa for all of 10 minutes and decides she needs to change her name to Skywalker and chooses that family instead.

 

I never wanted to end up here but man did they drive this trilogy into the ground! TLJ literally broke SW movies moving forward. TROS should have done everything in it's power to rectify what they could, but they were so worried about offending RJ they decided to offend 3 billion fans and continue to make ridiculous story decisions

 

I feel your pain. I was skeptical about TFA but they won me over, then TLJ lost me again. Now bringing back Palpy and Rey Fakewalker just continues in the same direction that TLJ went in.

That is the million dollar question for me. JJ's "oh Luke was dominating the film" is a damn cop out, considering he couldn't see how Han was dominating the film.

What's even more baffling to me is that very few people called him on it and the minute someone does it's "well, it had to work this way" "You know Ford would have only done one film" like the damn story was brought down the mountain by Moses along with the Ten Commandments. Every decision they made with the OT3 is a mess, the Lando leak is just as bad, and TLJ managed to bash all the new characters not named Kylo. I think TROS is going to be a mess and I think the fight in fandom is going to get worse. I thought two years of who are Rey's parents were bad enough, then we've now had four years and it's Palpatine?

I think the “fight in fandom” will be short lived because I think this is the end of the ST characters, and ultimately the end of KK and JJ’s involvement with Star Wars. The future is Favreau and Filoni and maybe Feige too. The ST will fade into obscurity. The 1-6 saga will live forever.

 

I have a gut feeling that TROS will be a much better movie than TLJ and will be better received by fans, however, the professional critics will not praise it as much as either TFA or TLJ, some will actually admit they don't like it or Star Wars at all, and this will create more of a mainstream narrative the franchise is in trouble. If it makes less than 1b$ worldwide there will be doomsayers everywhere.

 

I would be more understanding if Lucas just sold off Lucasfilm, wanting to be done with it and allow his dream of having other filmmakers come in have a fun in the playground he created. However, the fact that he wanted to be part of the creative process of the ST, even having outlines for the trilogy, and the new crew basically threw them out makes this specific trilogy as nothing more as fan faction. It’s no longer canonical because they betrayed the vision of the creator.

Because of that, I full on resent this trilogy and the involvement of creative heads who made that idiotic decision. I have no doubt that Lucas out Kennedy in charge as assurance that his “friend” would back him up, but she didn’t. This sequel trilogy doesn’t count as part of the mainline films and it never will.

 

Rey Palpatine who adopts the Skywalker name almost feels like they comically went out of their way to annoy Rey Skywalker fans AND Rey Rando fans. It’s an attempt to please everyone but if the rumor is true it could annoy everybody.

 

Coupled with "never to be seen again," it's also angered many Reylo fans.
