I had the opportunity to order some amazing commissions this year to replace those I had to sell in 2009.

I am very grateful that I could, because now that I am drawing, I see these commissions as educational too.

Really delighted I looked up Alex Maleev’s comic Art dealer because I discovered Stephanie Lavaud, Ricardo Drumond, Helena Masellis and Ingrid Gala as a result.

Stephanie has since eclipsed (haha) Alex as my favorite artist there. In addition to being a fine artist, Stephanie is also a graphic designer and I was absolutely stunned and delighted to see that come out in the first piece she completed for me. My only request was a noir style, unmasked Moon Knight (Because her Noir Bruce Wayne is hands down my most favorite Batman piece…)

Stephanie was a little nervous (She wasn’t familiar with Moon Knight and my request of him being unmasked did not help), and yet she leveled me with this:


She’s since become a fan of the character and has two more orders from me. At least one of them will include Oscar Isaac’s likeness, so given how perfectly she’s captured Hugh Jackman, Tom Hiddleston and Anthony Mackie, I cannot wait to see what she does.

And I just learned that Will Sliney worked on a Spider-Man 2099 book which explains why he utterly nailed the Oscar-centric take on the character, plus he’s phenomenal with capturing an actor’s likeness but distilling it into a sleek comic book style.
