Puggy used a Ricky Ricardo expression! YAY, yells the half-Cuban girl.

LP, should I be worried that you said 'yet' in the same sentence with your 'not killing any of the characters'.

Obstacles, obstacles, obstacles. Hanandleiadom is just full of 'em.

Sunshine, I Love Lucy is one of my favorite TV shows of all time! TV Land once had a marathon, and my mother recorded the entire thing! We have about five tape's worth of Lucy!

Obstacles, obstacles, obstacles. Hanandleiadom is just full of 'em.

Isn't it strange how many Han/Leia fans hate the way Han/Leia are treated in profic, yet in fanfiction, we all throw all these horrible obstacles in the way? LMAO. I guess it makes sense, if you think about it. Fanfiction isn't "canon" (hate that word) and isn't a truly published piece of work. Plus, Han/Leia fanfic writers seem to know the characters a lot better than most profic writers, so the obstacles and the way in which they happen are a lot more plausible. *Shrug* I think reading/writing fanfic is a lot more fun than reading profic, personally.

    UP goes the thread! :)

No, LP, I haven't posted any yet. I need to be well on my way before I start. I tend to write non-linearly, and I usually go back and edit the beginning as I work my way through. I'll also need a beta. Sometime. Next year. Maybe.

What do you think is a better title, guys:
A Smuggler and a Girl Like Me
OR A Scoundrel and a Girl Like Me?

I posted a Leia viggie yesterday, if anyone's interested. While you're all waiting for Han to say his bit ;)

Yes, I think we should all be worried about that.

I absolutely agree with you Puggy, I Love Lucy is still one of the best shows on television. :)

    YAY, yells the half-Cuban girl.

Hey that's cool. I'm Cuban too Sunshine!

Sorry, guys, will post individual replies later. I'm going to be out late.

    ******************************

    Chapter Forty-One

?Excuse me, sir. Do you need assistance??

?What?? Han asked dazedly. He stopped where he was and looked around, suddenly aware of his surroundings. He was standing in the center of a very busy market square, and, judging from appearance of the cave walls around him, he was now in a completely different section of Sareen from Leia?s residential sector. He had no idea where he was or how long he had been wandering, although, judging by the simulated lights, Han guessed it was very late at night. The lateness notwithstanding, the marketplace was still a beehive of activity.

?I asked if you need any assistance, sir?? the young Sullustan male merchant asked. ?You seem lost.?

?No?no. I?m okay,? Han said, his tone and his obvious bewilderment belying his words. He stared down at the Sullustan carpets piled in the merchant?s stall without really seeing them. ?I?uh, I?m okay.?

In the same daze, Han turned and continued to wander along the market, which was arranged as an enormous circle. He saw none of the wares placed before him, and only his sense of self-preservation kept him from colliding with the many customers and merchants milling around the stalls.

Instead, what Han saw was a child. Himself as a child. He could not remember his parents, or what his early childhood was like. Instead, he remembered a ragged, dirty, hungry street urchin of ten wandering the streets of Coronet, begging for the credits to buy food. More often than not, he went searching through garbage dumpsters and back alleyways for scraps of bread, or resorted to petty thievery to get a few credits to keep himself from starving. He remembered how happy he felt when Garris Shrike offered him a spot within his organization, only to discover he had traded one hell for another.

And life in Garris Shrike?s organization had been hellish. Han had been forced to lie, to steal, to cheat. He had been forced to attend all the most prestigious schools on Corellia, each time under a different pseudonym to con his classmates? well-heeled parents as part of one or another of Shrikes? swindling schemes?any failure or insubordination was dealt with by severe beatings. His only reward was a roof over his head and a few measly meals supplemented by a diet of lies that Shrike fed him. ?Do this and maybe I?ll tell you about your family,? was the carrot that Shrike had dangled in front of him, knowing how desperate Han was to find out about his family; except that Shrike never made good on his promise.

On his own, Han had finally found two relatives, a crazy, reclusive aunt named Tiion Sal-Solo, and a lying, abusive older cousin named Thracken Sal-Solo. They had denigrated and abused Han during the brief interlude he had spent with them?compared with Shrike they were not much of a better alternative. Neither of these relatives gave Han much confidence in the family he had lost.

In any case, Han had never wanted children. He could never see the point in having whining, screaming demanding creatures running around under his nose, causing trouble, depriving him of sleep, and giving him no end of worries. Moreover, neither his memories of childhood nor his uninspiring discoveries of his genetic background made Han want to doom another human life to suffer the same fate he had. What if he passed on those crazy, abusive genes to some poor unsuspecting kid? What if he had a child that became orphaned as he was? He would not have wished that kind of life on anyone.

Besides, having children usually met commitment. Being tied down to one woman and to a family. He remembered, with a grimace, Salla Zend, an old girlfriend who had become so enamored of him that she told everyone in their circle on Nar Shaddaa that they were engaged, despite Han?s vociferous protests?which forced Han to escape to the Corporate Sector for several months to get away from her. As he thought about it though, in all honesty, Han couldn?t think up a

July 18th? I can't wait that long to read it all at once. So you'll just get me pestering you to go faster every post until July. Aren't you excited?

And as for that post, all I can say is: thank the Force Han came around. The way you wrote it made his reaction so logical and plausible that I don't see any way that Leia wouldn't forgive him...after he explains himself to her of course. Now THAT'S what I'm looking forward to. That and Han's reaction when he finally holds Rydor.

    Han loves Rydor!

    YAY!

I am very happy right now, LP. (note the 'right now'. Fully expect you to pull some devious little trick.) Marvelous post- and early! What an unexpected surprise!

I bet you that LP will have Rydor spit up on him. *nods grimly* Yup.

Leia! *whistles* Hear, girl! C'mon back! The coast is clear! Ollie ollie oxen free (who the heck made that saying up?)

That was an excellent, excellent post. I really hope Leia's not out getting herself in trouble, if Han had to go rescue her, she might get in even more trouble!
Excellent explanation of Han's reaction. And I'm glad Leia has Winter. Winter rocks.
    :D

I can't wait until the Han and Leia showdown!!!

Totally understandable explanation for Han's reaction to Rydor. I think we all take into consideration what we might be passing on to any children we might have. And, they are a huge responsibility. But, like you had Han realize, there is a great joy in the possibilities of what you can teach and pass on to them. When Han realized that he could teach Rydor to fly the Millenium Falcon, I knew everything would be okay. Beautifully written chapter!!!! :)

Hi, guys...I'm back, and earlier than I thought! Went to see Bend it Like Beckham which was FABULOUS! It took me a couple of minutes to wrap my ears around those British accents but it was a great movie!

Anyway, will only reply to the replies from before my post today, okay? Post-post replies come tomorrow. Got it?

KatarnLead: Leia's stupid. Can't think straight.

    - Yes, women can be like this when they're in love and upset...

recklessabandon: I literally gasped when I read her name.

    * giggles * Yes. I know exactly what you think of her!!

    - I loved I Love Lucy too. What innocent days those were...

Jade51999: Welcome to the thread!! I'm glad you like what you've read so far. And...so you've read all the Bed Making fics? There must be at least 10 of them. They were a lot of fun to write and read, though. ;)

    Solo_Fan: See PM.

Jaina-Solo-Fel13: Gotcha. Thanks for the explanation.

Bri_Windstar: Well, I don't hate Bria. It's just her creator who's anathema to the H/Lers here at this time.

    Kirana_Ti: Thanks for the up.

    - And yes, new motherhood makes a woman a nut.

    Sologal: Nods. Agrees. Sighs...

Puggy: Then, I find the SW fanbase and find out all about EU and Bria, and it's like my whole Han/Leia "happy bubble" just pops! LOL.

    - LOL! Exactly!! I saw the name Bria Tharen when I first started on these boards and then I checked it out on the CUSWE, and was in shock. I wasn't ever going to read more, but my cousin got me the HST for Christmas. I actually thought the books weren't bad, but of course, I wasn't crazy about Bria.

    - We fanfic-ers aren't restricted by the LFL and their bizarro story lines.

    Sunshine: Heh. [face_devil]

Sock_of_Darth_Vader: Will try to get on your viggie as soon as I can!

Han letting his son fly the Falcon?

Hmmm...the age old question of putting trust in your offspring, versus the love of your personal toy/ship/vehicle. I can see Han putting Rydor through hundreds of hours in the simulator, where he can't even scratch the paint, before Han lets him have the keys. :D

Wait until Han finds out that Rydor is a future Jedi. :D

Leia should be pleased, if she returns. However, I have a bad feeling about those guys that were lurking. That, combined with knowing LP's love of twists. :D

    anywhoo..lots of randomness

Very nice. :) Quite a logical and well presented explanation for Han's actions and psychological state.

He stopped outside a stall selling Sullustan bloodworms, and stared at the squirming, red slimy creatures, for which he would forever have a soft spot in his heart, as he came to this realization.

That line just cracks me up. Talk about a little slice of real life. We connect the weirdest things with memorable experiences and revelations, don't we? :D

Of course, he still has to explain himself to Leia. Plus the Bria picture. Plus Leia is unaccounted for. Plus the previous lurkers watching her. Just look at all the dramatic buildup you've given yourself here, LP! You're such a devious author. ;) Can't wait to see where it all goes. :D

A simple and innocent explanation for Han's behaviour. Han is clean for me. I doubt that it would be so easy with Leia. ;)

He had a son. There was a new life out there that he had helped create. After all these years of being alone, of living for himself?even though this I-live-for-myself mantra was really an illusion during the past four years?there was now someone to whom Han was forever, inextricably linked. There was someone whose well-being and future were Han?s responsibility. Someone who would trust Han to provide for him, to teach him, to care for him. He smiled a little as he thought of this: Someone whom he could teach to fly the Millennium Falcon. Someone he could gently rock to sleep at night.

    Very sweet LP.
Fathers can't have the relationship that mothers have with their new born children. They need time to be adjusted to it, while women are most luckily form it through pregnacy. So its understandable -especially after Leia's presentation, that poor Han had a shock and he needed time. I just hope that Leia will not ruin everything with her jealousy, although I have a bad feeling about this. After Han's reaction towards his son and the photo she found, well, I'm sure, she will calculate 2+2=10 or something like that. [face_laugh]
I've got the feeling that I would react the same way in a situation like this...
JediArwen shakes her head feeling shame for herself, but truth is always truth.

That is so sweet, LadyPadme. [face_love] I just knew Han would come around. We all know he's a big softie at heart. ;) But I think it just may be confession time for Han. I'm sure if he tells Leia his whole life story and fears she'll have to forgive him. She would have to realize for him to divulge his most guarded secrets is proof of his love and trust in her. :)

Oh, definitely, Lucy kicks butt. My mother is obsessed with it.

Obsessed. *nods* You don't believe me? *glances into dining room at the six 'I Love Lucy' dolls, the several tree ornaments, the lunch box, the figurine, and Volumes 1-4 on DVD* Well, I come by my obsessive tendencies honestly, at least. I used the Vitameatavegamin speech for a presentation the other day- got lots of laughs.

    *coughs* Yeah.

You're Cuban, Recklessabandon? How cool is that? Two Cubans on the thread! Score!

*rereads post* Man, Leia's gonna come home, and Han's gonna be cooing to Rydor or doing something equally cute, and it's gonna be like, 'Shoot, I can't be mad at him!'. She still will be, though, because she's Leia and she goes stuff like that. *grin*

Or not. Leia might come home with an ax and a death threat.

*shudders* Never know when she might go chop-chop on us.

*giggles* Dude, this prophesizing stuff is fun!

LP! That was so sweet! Han is so cute, i love it when he's portrayed like such a softie, esp. in stories where he's a father. Im a sucker for those, its another one of those things not very often seen in the official EU.

I hope those Goonies havent gone and abducted Leia, that would not be very fun.

*Giggles* That was such a heart-warming post, LadyPadme! The way you explained Han's reaction and feelings made everything easy to understand and very plausible. I also loved the way he suddenly made a U-turn, per se, and realized how much he loved both Leia and Rydor.

I'm eager to see what happens when Han and Leia see each other again. Leia's probably still pretty upset, and I hope Han will be able to explain everything to her.

    Nice work, LP. :)

I used to think "I Love Lucy" was funny.

Now, sadly, I sort of look at it as really dated and badly sexist.

How do you think it compares to that other classic sitcom of the 50's, "The Honeymooners"?
