Yes, ladies and gentlemen, humans and Twi'leks, Wookiees and Mon Cals, Jedi and Sith...the interviews are back!!!! :D :D :D ::waves hands and waits for deafening cheers and applause to fade down::

For those of you who religiously kept up with Kit's wonderful old thread--and even those of you who came in a little later--you know the drill. For the benefit of newbies: This idea was conceived by our beloved Kit' about a year or so ago. What we're going to do is interview some of everybody's favourite authors, to gain a little insight into their writing style, their love of Star Wars or the characters therein, and why they write what they write. Who knows--a lot of people, old hands and newbies, have probably found boundless new sources of inspiration, friendship, and all-around great ideas for writing. One thing's for sure: many, many people have found these interviews nothing short of fascinating.

    Interview process is as follows:

The interviews will be conducted by Miana Kenobi, RogueSticks, solojones, and Sara_Kenobi, with yours truly coordinating. KrystalBlaze will still be able to join us now and then. If you know an author you'd like to see interviewed, feel free to nominate them. Please PM your nomination to me--please do not post it here in the thread. Include a reason why you'd like to see this interview, and needless to say, some of your own questions would be an enormous help. ;) 'Views will be conducted, and when it's posted, I'll update the subject line with the author's name and the date. Note: You can nominate as many of your friends as you like, but we discourage self-nominations strongly. All we want to do is keep some kind of fairness here, as in any other spotlight thread. ;)

Below, you will find a fully complete index of interviewed authors from both threads, bravely compiled by leia_naberrie. When each 'view is completed, I'll edit this post to add it to the index, along with a list of nominees.

If you're nominated and you grant the 'view, we'll PM a series of questions to you, which you can take your time answering. There's no rush. ;) When you're done, PM back to us with your answers and up it goes.

Sound easy enough? Awesome! Now sit back and enjoy Round 2 of the interviews!!! :D

Sweet! At first I thought all my favorite authors had been interviewed, but as I perused the old thread, I found that wasn't the case. Yay! My nominations will be in shortly. I'm looking forward to discovering new authors, too. :)

If anyone is having trouble remembering (like me) who's been interviewed and who hasn't, here's a link to the page with the index of interviewed authors.

Just two thoughts from me :

    - Could someone compile the interviews which are already done into a downloadable document ? I don't know if I want to read through 24 pages in the old thread ... ;)

    - You might call me crazy, but I have the habit to turn directly into the other direction of what's given, so to say. ;) :D

Here, I mean - interviews with known writers ? Why not make Interviews with newbies ? :D

"Or so" is right, Aun. ;) Update for ya, gang: So far, three nominees have granted, and one that I'm aware of has been 'viewed. Soon as the answers come back, we'll have something to look forward to! :D

Alrik, everybody's eligible for a 'view, whether they're new or experienced. All we need is a good idea of their writing style and their preferences, so that we can come up with some really good questions for them. ;)

The way I see it, and the way I saw it in the last thread is that if you are nominated then you are interviewed (or asked) - that applies to newbies and oldbies alike.

On another note - how do you define newbies in the fanfic boards? It gets pretty hard to define if you try it from any angle.

I'd rather it was just the people that were nominated, that way we get a good cross-section of the board.

While we're waiting for our first interviewees to reply, Kit has been good enough to dust off an older interview that was received after the original thread ended. This is an interview with a young lady who is best known for her work with round robins, most notably "Bring On The Rain" and "Son of My Soul." She has them down to a science, to say nothing of her ever-popular "Shades of Green." You guessed it, ladies and gents...it's...

    Emilie Darklighter!!!

    **********

    What influences your writing?

A lot of things. Music, mostly, and the writing of others. My friends inspire me (J_K_DART and Amidala_Skywalker, my "big brother" and "twin sister", respectively, Gabri_Jade, RebelMom, AngelQueen...countless others) and my moods probably influence my writing. ;)

How did you come up with the concept for ?Bring on the Rain??

Hmmm...well, that's interesting. I was reading Herman Snerd's Moving On at the archives, and I really enjoyed the concept of Luke coming back after being thought dead. It made for some interesting ideas. I wanted it longer, though, and more angsty, (What can I say? After hanging around with Amses and AQ, It rubs off.) so I changed two years to six years, moved the timeperiod to after the Vong wars, and gave them two children. Children alone make for more angst. ;) Then Dart came up with the Virox, and history was in the making. ;)

What has it been like writing for this round robin?

Pretty fun...I've only written one post so far. It moves very well. I love seeing my own idea on paper without having to actually write it. ;)

Are there any tips you might like to share with other people who might be about to write on a round robin story?

Just use grammar and spell check, and be able to communicate with your authors. Always have a planning thread...writing RRs on the fly never works out too well. It's always best to plan things out ahead.

You have also written for ?Son of my Soul? round robin. Have you found any discernible differences in writing for each round robin? (Characterisation, post types, communication between authors etc)

Golly, Kit, how far back did you go? I haven't thought of SOMS in forever... Discernible differences, yes. SOMS failed because we didn't plan things out. I had no idea what the other author(s) were thinking, so I didn't know where to go.

What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of this sort of story?

*shrugs* I don't know...advantages, you get to work with friends, and see your own ideas through other's eyes. Disadvantages...sometimes author communication is unclear, and things get written that you don't want, or the whole thing falls because it has no stable foundation if not planned carefully.

What was the initial idea behind ?Shades of Green??

The whole idea was actually based on what Leia would think if she found out Luke had a family he never told her about. I basically twisted someone else's bunny, threw Mara and Ben Kenobi in, and *BOOM* Shades of Green was born. It spans several years, so we actually *do* get to see Leia's reaction to Mara, and other things...

What, to you, is the most pleasurable aspect to writing?

The escape, and the use of my imagination. Writing is my outlet. If I didn't have it, I'd explode from emotional overload.

What is your preferred writing genre?

Luke/Mara romance ;) I love anything with action and romance, really.

What do you think of Earth terms in Star Wars fics?

Hmm...I'm probably digging my own grave here, because I *know* I've done it before, but I really, really can't stand it when an author does that. It annoys me to no ends.

Finally, what do you see as your future on the JC?

I want to follow in the footsteps of my twin-Empress Amsie. You know, mod-dom and all that. *grins*

Yeah, it'd be great to be a mod here. I really want to help ressurect the L/M genre, because for a while it was failing. My overall plan, I guess, is to provide quality fanf

This author has been nominated by no less than three people. These people, and over a dozen others, have been enamoured of her wonderfully whimsical Luke/Mara vignettes and her one full-length story to date. Her characterisation is impeccable, her writing style as fluid as a northern river. And so, for the very first interview of the second round, a hearty hello to...

    GABRI_JADE!!!!!

    **********

Gabri_Jade, would you like to give us some background information on yourself?

If you don't mind being bored. I grew up in Southern California near San Diego, but for the past ten years home has been Phoenix, Arizona. I'm twenty-seven and work as non-medical support staff in a local hospital. I have a younger sister who is married with two small children of her own, and a ten year old brother. I also have two cats who demand (and receive) outrageous amounts of pampering and some goldfish who think they're sharks. I adore the Phoenix heat and have a multitude of hobbies, the foremost being reading and writing.

What was your first experience with Star Wars?

Hmmm. My first memory of Star Wars would have to be the award ceremony that ends A New Hope. When I was seven, my next door neighbors had the video, and I must have seen it when I was over playing with their son. For some reason, I really only remember the award ceremony and the music that accompanied it; but that was enough to know I loved it. Then when I was about nine, my aunt took my younger sister and I to see some movie -- I think it was The Care Bears Movie, honestly -- and when it was over, she thought it would be a good idea to theater hop over into Return of the Jedi. Over my sister's and my objections (to the theater hopping, not the SW), we slipped in just as Artoo and Threepio reached Jabba's. Been in love with Star Wars ever since.

When did you begin writing? What got you into Star Wars fanfic?

I've been writing on and off for as long as I can remember, whenever the inspiration struck. I've never been a very prolific writer, but it's always been part of my life. Star Wars fanfic started about two months after the release of AotC. I was so excited after seeing that movie that I couldn't get enough Star Wars. I rewatched the OT and TPM several times and reread all of Zahn's SW books, then got the bright idea of looking for SW sites on the internet. I'd never considered the possibility before, but I was fortunate enough to find a couple of small archives right away and even more fortunate that the first few stories I chose to read were very high quality. I read with this dawning sense of amazement -- you mean we could rewrite the saga to our tastes? I could write something as I thought it should have happened, rather than as it did? I was hooked.

What brought you to the JC forums in the first place?

Pure chance. I'd read just about all of the Luke/Mara stories I could find elsewhere and was suffering from withdrawal. A search engine sent me here. I'd seen the Archive before, but hadn't bothered to look any further. The fanfic forum blew me away. So much to read!!! I spent a couple of happy weeks just reading. In the process, I discovered that not only were the stories fun, but the people seemed pretty cool too. I thought that I'd like to be a part of this kind of community, so I registered.

How do your friends and family view your love of writing?

They're very supportive. My dad does sometimes wonder why I write SW instead of something that could actually be published, but he still thinks it's great that I write. At ten, my brother much prefers watching the movies and challenging me to lightsaber duels to reading any stories I might write, but he thinks it's interesting nonetheless. He wants me to write a story about Darth Vader. My mom, sister, and best friend always read my work and are extremely encouraging. My mom proofread Infinite Possibilities for me, and was really wonderful about it. She pestered me to post it for ages before I actually did. If it weren't for her, it would

All right! The first new interview! :D

    Very informative, Gabri Jade

and when it was over, she thought it would be a good idea to theater hop over into Return of the Jedi. Over my sister's and my objections (to the theater hopping, not the SW)

It is really tempting to theater hop at my local cineplex. I've done it only once, and it was a bit of a thrill, it's the timing that counts. ;)
