    Good points.
Still, no reason to give up hope that real change might eventually come for the people of Iran.

    Maybe that time is now.

I think it's a bit naive to put faith in the people, not everyone think in the same way around the world. And if Iran is ruined and enters an era of instability, people will take anything that will ensure stability and peace to them, even the most tyrannical regime.

    Understood @SW Saga Fan
Look, I'll do us both a favor and will refrain from posting in this thread anymore.

I was just trying to be hopeful; stating in my initial posts that these protests have been exensively reported on in the US, for many days at least.
And that there are many of us here who care about the future of Iran and are wishing the women and men, the citizens, to have basic human rights.

Please pardon me for my ignorance and naivete. I have no right to discuss such matters that I am so obviously ill equipped to contribute to and form an opinion on based on the reports I'm hearing in my country.

    Best wishes. So long.

@Dagobahsystem Hey! No worries! I'm not pointing out your ignorance and naivete, you're free to post here and you have the right to be hopeful. :)

I would also like to be hopeful as you, or as I did 10 years ago when I was younger. Maybe I've become more of a pessimistic/pragmatic person lately, especially during the past few years, especially after being burned out by the insanity and madness we've been through collectively. No worries! [face_peace]

I support protests against theocratic laws. I am also wary of bad actors-- that is, the government-- in the US using the protests as a pretext for more sanctions and other hostile actions. There was already a nutjob exile on CNN calling for sanctions because that's what the Iranian people "want."

This is never gonna work. Did sanctions for example stopped Putin from attacking Ukraine? The only thing sanctions do is reinforcing the credibility and public discourse of those regimes. When will we learn the lesson?

George Lucas is a theocratic guy? o_O

Well, at least you survived, as it has been rough on everyone. Especially those who are dead.

If it were Trump or George W. Bush in the White House, then I would be saying the exact same thing. But under Obama, we generally did leave Iran alone for the most part and let things run their course, so doesn't that meet or at least come close to your standards?

The Obama administration most definitely did not "leave Iran alone."

How much non-interference do we need to hold ourselves to, then? Are sanctions too much? Saying a few bad things about authoritarian regime...is that too much?

Ah, yes, the Obama administration that left Iran alone so much that it sanctioned European businesses for doing business with Iran.

I don't think anybody can deny that the nuclear deal was a step in the right direction for Iran, and it's also the reason why Javad Zarif was massively popular there.

our sanctions don’t help at all, they just generally make it more difficult for people to live, look at the results of sanctions on Iraq or Afghanistan, do you think they helped the people living there?
