"I mean, I kind of agree that they seem to be overpaid, but relative to how much money movies like that take in...I dunno. I suppose you could pay the crew more and the actors less. Or the producers could just keep more for themselves."

I've worked as a crew member too, I know. What concerns me is that it wouldn't go to the crew members...and we're not even talking about all the intricacies related to the unions.

EDIT: I'm assuming you know better than I and most of the people here--do you have any idea how you would negotiate some sort of agreed general "lowering" of the pay actors received, and redistributing that pay to crew workers? Also, I'm pretty sure I've seen SJ talk about this exact topic before...I wish I knew where exactly I saw what she said about it, because some cut/paste could do wonders here.

 

Kindness? What about the second rate crew members who would do almost as good a job as the first rate ones that could be hired for a now much, much lower wage? Why not hire both the third and fourth tier for half the price and they do half the work?

People aren't even interested in "better product" or else most of the money spent on these things wouldn't be all in the marketing. Actors are part of the marketing, hence the highest paid ones get paid a lot because they have something other less famous actors don't, fame and connections. If you don't like stupid reworks of old movies with famous people's kids, don't go see the movie. I certainly didn't.

Consumers of movies are idiots, and if people valued really well lit sets and sound, then you wouldn't need to be "kind."

It is like people forget Hollywood is an industry, and at least when they overpay the top tier it generally doesn't bankrupt the entire country. The bankers who destroyed this country sometimes got 3 million a day for clicking a few buttons making bets the American taxpayer had to meet. Kids getting to "make" money because they got hooked up because daddy is powerful is nothing new. In fact our economic system is predicated on it.

I couldn't care less about the already well paid people who work on major studio sets.
