If you guys are talking about the other blond-haired kid, I think he came off as too serious. He looked like he was ready to turn into Darth Vader right there during the screen test.

Okay, maybe the whole, "One word, Yipee!" thing came off a little harsh. I admit that and I apoligize. Jake Loyd is a very talented actor who dosen't deserve the crap people dish out. For his age and being able to put on his resume that he was a lead charachter in STAR WARS is very impressive. Just because of a few little lines that sounded weird didn't give me the right to insult his acting. Although they way he gave his dialouge bugged me but I never really thought about it until I started hearing crap about TPM. But other than that I hope I get to see more of his work in the future. Once again to any Jake Lloyd fans reading this I apologize for my comment, "One word, Yipee!" I am truly sorry!

I don't agree with this. I don't think having Anakin as a teen would carry the same kind of emotional impact as having him as a small child.

The stuff on Tatooine was acceptable because he was still in his own element and pretty comfortable with his environment. I thought his best acting was in the Pod race when he didn't say anything at all. This type of reserved seriousness would have been ideal for the time he spends in the Naboo fighter trying to scramble his way to survival in the space battle. Lines like "Artoo get us off this auto pilot or it's gonna get us BOTH killed" worked great. Had more thought provoking and realistic lines of a young boy in peril been used, the integrity of the character would have been maintained. Instead he utters all kinds of lame one liners typical to an Arnie flick. And although he is a very young kid, ghetto raised kids grow up faster than suburban kids. Hard times make the heart callous and based on the scenario Anakin was supposed to be raised in; the humble servitude of a slave's existance; the kind of goofy blabbering he carries on with just isn't common.

I mean consider a film like 'City of God' where very young kids in the slums of Brazil are seen toting guns and slinging dope to gain power over the neighborhood. And these are kids at the age of 6-10. These kids are nearly fully grown in terms of serious consideration on how to scheme and survive. And although they joke around, it's not kiddie stuff at all. That's a great film by the way which sadly is based on a true story and true events covered in the news.

I suppose it's understandable that he'd have some lines to say since Artoo is with him (another lame coincidence) but lines like "That's a neat trick" or "Let's turn left" and "Whoa!!" or the ever cheese filled "Woohoo!!" as he's escaping the droid ship just ruined the emotional buildup of the end battle that was supposed to be the climax of the film. The way the film was put together, the Podrace had more energy and dramatic factors worthy of a film's climax. The saving grace of that battle and the Jar Jar botched battle on the surface, is that they are so well integrated into the flow of the story that it all works anyway. I think the end battle with Jake would have worked a lot better if he had just not been goofing around. Jar Jar more than covers that territory. Had Anakin taken it all more serious and recognised the danger for what it was, we would have too and the momentum would have been much more dramatic. As it is in the film, it's simply not true to character. And though I recognise that this is designed to be entertainment for kids, but so was the original Star Wars which doesn't goof off at all in the trench run.

Were it not for the level headed mood established in the lightsaber duel at the end of the film, the finnish would have been utterly wasted. Personally I liked the choice of Lloyd for the young Anakin. He had a natural cockiness in his demeaner and yet could display a sense of kindness. He did a fine job for what he was given, I just think his dialogue in the film should have been written with greater wisdom to compensate for the lack of acting dynamic typical of a young actor.

Looking back at some of the horrible things bashers have said about Jake Lloyd, George Lucas, and some of the other actors, it makes me really angry. There?s really no need for name calling or personal attacks. You can critique without having to insult or making outrageous statements like, "George Lucas Raped my childhood!!!"

I think most people have. Oh, there will always be a few, but that's the nature of fanbases.

I watched the interview. I wouldn't have recognized him, he looked very different. It's good to see he's pursuing film, and I admire his work ethics.
