*cough* voyage of the dawn treader *cough* (o i suppose there not being a talking mouse makes it entirely different)

I love the straw man of "lets critisising the dyslexic at work who isn't commited enough to the online star wars geekfest to run spell and grammar check in a sepparet program and then copy and pasting" than actualy bringing up anything resembling a valid point. I love star wars and i love discussing all things star wars I'm a huge star wars geek, i've probably bought GL a car or 2 over the years but seriously attacking grammar rather than the issue.

Just becouse something can be done, doesn't mean that doing it is the most original or creative thing. I write fanfic becouse I like to write, but I'm not getting paid, so hey i can be as creative or as lazy as I want. Not all writers are created equal, but more time energy and thought went into the wrighting of PoD than JvS, no contest. Also more is expected these days, not to mention greater over all continuety issues. Some times things need to be tweeked so they fit in with the rest of the universe better. Those weren't nearly as big an issue back then. They could put blatent steriotipical fantasy elements in their little star wars comic, and who would care? They could just deside that Bobba Fett was Jaster, or make a green bugs bunny look alike.

Lastly I'm not sure the difference between a sword and a laser sword as far as story structure is concerned is that pronounced, but thats just me.

You do realize that Jedi vs Sith is a relatively recent title, right? It came out towards the end of 2001 as the hype started to build up around AOTC and TPM's DVD release. At this same time Dark Horse was hitting a stride in Republic and launching (or about to launch) Empire. Certainly released during a time where there was increased coorperation between the films and EU. The way your describing it, makes it sound like JVS came out in the 80's or something.

    You're right. I apologize.

However, I still think your complaints are petty. All stories (especially Sci-Fi and Fantasy) are are unoriginal. It's the nature of Star Wars to borrow from outside sources, and humans are only so imaginative.

i never looked at the release date. OMG i thought it was older than that

Fair enough, but to act like its some great work that shouldn't be contradicted is a little silly too. Personaly I don't care what kind of lame explenation is given Dooku was Yoda's padawan. He says that... anyway I had to learn to live with that, so worrying about some comic just seems way down on the list

Well, just going by comments in the "Top 100 Works" event thread, it seems here's a lot of people who hold JVS pretty high up amongst SW works, so it's understandable why they'd be a bit miffed at contradictions from DB:pOD (beyond that contradictions of that caliber shouldn't really exist in the first place, that is, regardless of the source).

This is a flagrant RoT spoiler, isn't it? You do realize some of us don't have this book yet?

How, exactly? Bane walks right up to the spot where all the souls are contained in JvS.

(The quoted bits all come from Rahn in Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight.)

So, yeah, failing to see how that is a RoT spoiler....

Why is it any more pants than giant walking carpets? Or Force-using gremlins for that matter.

Question: How is it implausible to believe that Farfella likes the aesthetic of wood? The wood is there for the look, not for any sort of practicality. I'm sure that beneath the "wooden-hull" there were much more sturdy materials.

And Drew DID mention Farfella, his crew AND his ship. He just didn't describe them. I've got no problem with that, personally.

I know that he and his ship were mentioned, but it did not say anything about him having goat legs or a wooden spaceship. The reason it is not plausable is because it is unlikely that a creature would evolve with such wildly different body parts. And as for the wooden spaceship, well, its a wooden spaceship.

It's not plausible? Well, how plausible is it that twelve billion species evolved to look exactly like humans, but with green skin, or two fingers, or whatever Lame Species Gimmick of the Day you want to name? Everything in Star Wars is implausible; the only limiting factor is if it's impossible. As has been mentioned before, retcon them as Sithspawn alchemial experiments. Bang, there you go.

Or Arkanian experiments. You know, mad science stuff. Its not that hard.

Really, I think the only problem people are having here is that they're identical to creatures from Greek mythology. If you can look past that, having them exist is not a big issue. We already have mermaids and centaurs. Or, if you feel like that's just more silliness, try some Werewolves, giant Praying Mantids, and anthropomorphic slugs. Still think its all incredibly implausible? Yes, you're right, it is. Welcome to Star Wars, enjoy your stay.

I'm getting a vibe that people somehow think comics are "lesser" than novels. Nothing could be further than the truth, and I would advise people not to discount a source or think of it as "illegitimate" just because it has pictures. In other words, this:
    is way, way off.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the comic just did not feel very "familiar" as a SW work. I agree with whoever posted that it looks like whoever did the art had more of a LOTR mindset.

A lot of that probably had to with the setting and attempts to depict a dark age of sorts for SW- remember, at this point in time, the only visual reference for ancient times was TOTJ (this was before KOTOR modernized the era's tech to make the game more familiar), so JVS has a bit of a deevolution from that while still being a bit more advanced.

It took actually READING a comic for me to elevate them above (or on par) with the novels. After discovering SW comics last year (starting with the Clone Wars), I now realize how awesome they are.

Keeping with the thread, however, I REALLY didn't like JvS.

My favorit is the evil force using cockroches (from a novel, by the by)

for the record I have a lot of comics. In fact I was buying comics of all kinds befor most of you were born. I can't find it on the wook, but there was this green just like bugs bunny thing that kicked people, i think he was looking for alien trix. I was very young.

Its not even the indevidual elements its when you put it all together like that its over welming and destracting. And I hate the centar thing to and then raynor is getting it on with her, no wonder he lost it!

^ Well, she really only appeared in one novel, Crystal Star, and her death was mentioned in Star by Star, I think. Poor Lusa.

By the way, I could be over a hundred, for all you know.

    I actually discovered fire.;)

Just a bit of devolution from TOTJ?

It felt like it should have taken place before the TOTJ minis.

I just finished both Darth Bane: Pod and JvS. The novel was awesome! The comic, not so much.

The novel was a great read. My favorite parts were all the highly-detailed lightsabers training sessions and duels. Kas'im was an awesome character. It was interesting reading a Sith who was likeable. The academy itself was a cool idea. I like how it was treated like a school, and not something else.

Kaan, however, was a huge letdown, before reading either book, I thought he'd be a little more villainous.

In short, great book, can't wait for Rule of Two.
