What if Wim is force sensitive and while he doesn't know it, Jod picked up on it straight away and knew he could use that to control Wim because of his idolising Jedi?

What if Jod is an ex-inquisitor.

Why didn't he just use the force to escape the brig before the kids arrived?

I’m guessing it will be revealed in he next ep or at least a version of it from him. Whether it is true or not is another question I suppose.

Escape the brig and go where? It's not that big of a pirate port. He needed a ship, and he announced himself as soon as he heard they had one.

Silva. I can't believe it took me so long to notice how much that name sounds like Silver with an accent. Silver, as in Long John.

According to the subtitles, it's spelled "Silvo". But yes, entirely correct.

Perhaps the full name of Jod's alias is "Crimson" Jack Silvo? Or are they separate aliases?

I’m guessing he’s a youngling who survived Order 66, learned a few techniques but didn’t had much training. For starters his name sounds Jedi-ish, and this show seems to be telegraphing its turns for the kids to see coming. Explains his fondness for children and, makes sense as a story beat, “I was only your age when I left home to,” etc. But moreover I get the sense the writers won’t promise a Jedi to the young audience and then hold out, they’ll give you a Jedi but he’ll be different.

Very interesting character. Clearly force sensitive and trained but light side or dark side?

Interesting he says he is like them - certainly implies former youngling.

I don’t think he was a Jedi at all unless it was a double bluff

I think he still had some training and dosent see himself as a jedi. But by end of the show we will get ourselves a jedi

Maybe he was but he is “no more Jedi” after what he did and the choices he made to survive order 66 and the inquisitors… he will feel a Jedi again… you need to when you take on younglings and find an apprentice right?

I actually thought it sounded much better when he said it.

I wonder if his anti-droid attitude could be influenced by the clone wars. He is old enough to remember the war, and if he was a jedi apprentice, he would have fought the Separatists.

when Masters Of The Universe Wolf dude (Brutus) said his name at the beginning of the first ep I laughed at the reference, I was like 'that's a bit on the nose, but ok' :p

I’ve noticed that all three of his identities have a bit of theatricality to them that he can’t quite carry off - he definitely plays into some Jedi expectations of wise sayings and flourishes his cape a bit too much, wears a theatrical helmet with a voice modifier as Silvo that comes off as a bit of a paper tiger, and his last alias is the simply delicious Crimson Jack that an old mistrustful associate doesn’t actually seem to be afraid of.

None of the performances are perfect, but they’re all a little bit out of sorts, and there’s a mildly childish (and tragic) air to him that implies someone who had to grow up to fast and didn’t get a chance to mature as much as he should have… the type of guy to excitedly tell a former crewmate he’s after a big score at the worst possible time when that should be the last thing he does.

I suspect he *is* in fact a former Jedi Learner, but that he either likely didn’t even become an apprentice and was kicked out of the Order, or is younger than he looks and younger than Law’s age, and escaped Order 66 very early into his apprenticeship - leading to a career desperately trying to “fake it to make it” from a young age that’s a bit undercooked.

It would also explain why he doesn’t seem like a combat veteran Jedi when even young Padawans were cutting through droids.

Yes! I know I said that Wim was “Ezra coded” but he is also to me, he seems to be what Ezra could have become if he did not meet the Ghost Crew/his adoptive family/the best Jedi master you could ever find/Kanan… full of fake identities, too eager to show off and engage in a new plan but in the end lost and alone?

May be he's going to remain a mystery, the only thing I'm certain is he's not a Sith apprentice or acolyte.

He says “that’s not a Jedi thing” when Fern says Jedi don’t leave a man behind.

I think his backstory is going to be that he was a Jedi youngling around 30 BBY and his master ditched him on an anti-piracy mission and he ends up impressing his captors and joins their crew. Sort of like a Peter Quill and Yondu situation.

I could easily see some of his story being that he’s sort of got a bit of an identity crisis - that he’s so used to projecting an archetypal identity at all times that none of them have ever quite stabilized into just “who I am.”

The potential parallel with the kids would be of mutual maturation, with Jod Na Crimson Jack Silvo Nawood simply being older and coming to mature into the genuinely fatherly figure the kids need, and potentially, either through conscious choice or inevitable necessity, acts more and more like a Jedi.

I don't see a Jedi Master ditching an apprentice...but a situation like Ky Narec and Asajj Ventress where the master is killed...

As redemption is a huge theme in SW, Jod's journey, whatever his background, will redeem him through the kids.
