Beyond - Legends Just He and I. One-shot, L/M.

We see each other in many roles, warriors, instructors, diplomats. I cringe at this last. I'm too sharp-tongued, but I'm getting slightly more tactful, when I want to be. The other party still has to earn it first. Luke is and has always been the more courteous of the two of us.

We are great at fighting as a team: with sabers, star-fighters, or just the streamlined resourcefulness of our two minds teasing at a situation.

The role of parents: now that! I love Luke as a daddy, especially to our girls. He's loving and playful.

But it's the kids' reaction to me, even now, that still sends a jolt through me. I never thought to find a life-partner, much less have children ... and even less expected to be loved so utterly by them. But the joy in their eyes when I walk through the door, the way they tackle-hug me and snuggle with me and Luke at the beginning of our days before the mad scramble ...


It's unbelievable.

But even though we often get caught up in the tiny details of our many roles and duties, Luke and I will still share a glance, a thought, a touch, and we're back to being us the only two in the worlds. It's a promise we made to each other, with and without words, I think on Garqi, not to lose sight of ourselves.

We and us ... that's what keeps us sane and whole. (And if you tell him I said so, my reputation, and your safety are toast). (I have a feeling, however, he knows already, that I'm a softie. He should, he's the reason.
