    Oh...absolutely.

In fact, this template was the one I used for my very first KotOR II character the night it was relased -- the Bearded Canuckistani Lumberjacksman.

From our viewpoint, a guy wearing a big fluffy flannel shirt and a hat with furry ear-flaps, and babbling in French, is no less ludicrous and amusing than a guy wearing a big fluffy flannel shirt, a hat with furry ear-flaps, and babbling in classic Torontoan.

IMHO KotOR had better female face models than KotOR II.

I almost always use the bearded man too. It reminds me of Obi-Wan.

Just thinking about available faces, I remember a male choice for the sequel that looked an awful lot like Jesus, which I thought was hilarious, and moreso if I turned him dark side. Despite that I couldn't bear to actually choose him as the face of the Exile because then I wouldn't be able to take him seriously.

Another perk of the male Exile is the history he has with Atris.

But when it comes down to it I think the stories and opportunities are just biased to get the most entertaining subplots and character histories by choosing a male and the light side. If they had really wanted to, playing as a female Revan and/or Exile could have been made just as entertaining, as in the parts that involve other party members, love interests, etc..

I mean, that could have constructed a subplot to where Kavar was hinted as a former lover of a female Exile just like Atris is hinted at as a former lover of the male Exile.

And light side over dark side endings: come on, Star Wars isn't *always* about good triumphing over evil. Just remember Revenge of the damn Sith. Not like Sidious didn't *eventually* get what was coming to him, but evil basically pervailed in that single movie, with a shroud of hope from the twins.

Well the whole history with Atris is there for both a male and a female exile. I played through the game LS female the fist time and got that response from Atris. That subplot can work in several ways. There is the possibilty that there was some sort of lesbian lust, or that they were good friends and then the exile betrayed her by going to war. As to the Kavar point, that is a definitely hinted at thing.

I played the Jesus guy as my darkside character. Its too bad that the decay really makes him look aweful.

I'm hoping Zayne turns out to be one of the unrecognizable male sith lords, like Sion or Nihilus.

I believe that Kreia did it with the dark side. Its actually a kind of ingenious catch 22 of force power. He is only held together by his will, the constant pain of his shattered existance fuels hi rage and agony allowing his to draw on even more of the force, that in turn holds him together, which in turn continues his pain.

I don't think that it was ever really explained who did it or with what, but he talks about how he did not wish to see the Exile broken like he was. And as to the means, the force seems to be the only thing that could do such a thing.

As for male/female, good question. I think a female Revan would have worked fine (although Bastila's redemption through love wouldn't have worked)

Of course, its inconcievable that the character could have been a lesbian...

If you look at LFL's intense shepherding of their characters then yes, it pretty much is.

    Sorry.

Unless I missed something big, there was no lesbian storyline for Bastila in the game. I wasn't talking about how the game could have been made, I was talking about the decision on Revan's gender based on the actual game that was published. If we're dealing in what-ifs, a female Revan storyline could have been whatever you can imagine it to be.
    Well, they let Juhani through.
Repeated injuries compounded over time, I imagine. The medical officer's log on the Harbinger suggests something like that, as I recall. Sion could use the Force to recover, but like Vader in SOTE, he could only mend his body so much with the Dark Side. So a blunt trauma there, a compound fracture there, some burning why not, and pretty soon you have a walking corpse-man with a mosaic in his skin and a heart as black as the deepest reaches of Moria.

Sadly, that can very easily be explained as bad/lazy programming.

Believe me, I have no axe to grind here I just have very clear evidence on the part of LFL themselves that they would never willingly allow such a thing. And, unless that's changed (with no real evidence to that effect) we're unlikely to get something that progressive.

And thank the Force it wouldn't have worked. It's such a cliche, I have no words to describe it. it's the cliche of cliches.
There's one satisfying observation for romance haters like me (possibly only me), though: setting the gender does not impose any additional restrictions of the story. Neiter does it make the "redemption through love" scenario obligatory. Revan could still have saved Bastila through the Jedi Code only. (I think that in the LS story Bastila never truly fell to the dark side to begin with, but that's just me.)

That's only a fan rumor. The scripts setting the Juhani plot are all very clearly only triggered when Revan is female, and I really don't think one of the game programmers made a typo and accidentally replaced "male" with "female" in a whole bunch of different spots independently.
If LFL does have an issue with it, it could be that they simply missed it. It's a couple lines of dialogue in a game with lots of them, and perfectly innocuous if you don't know they only trigger when Revan is female. To get them in game you need to be lightside female, have completed Juhani's plot entirely, and talked to her before the end. I can easily see them not noticing it.

I'll miss it then. I'm currently night side female. Still, I'm being supportive of her. We'll see what eventuates.

Hmm...depending on how the conversation between Bastila and Revan goes on the Star Forge, one could possibly argue that it has lesbian undertones if you're playing as a female.

I don't see the criticisms that many people make about KOTOR II. I happened to thoroughly enjoy KOTOR II. I found it more dark and broody that KOTOR I, which tended to be campy in places.

That being said, I haven't had the time to actually go through both games with all the possible combinations. At this juncture I could see it being either male/female, light/dark. What makes it interesting in my mind is a character that is non-commital the whole way through, but keepng it in the grey is a very arduous, if not impossible, task.

Granted, Revan's gender has been canonized as male, and his ending in KOTOR I as light. I really paid more attention to the development of the story while I played instead of trying figure out gender.

Or Katarn, but the references are exactly why I don't use the bearded man.

Games programming doesn't work like that. It is really just a glitch that didn't get caught in beta testing.

I question the credibility of beta testers. How did no one notice your companions stand like statues in your way, without automatically moving aside? One of the game's few but biggest annoyances, and like lagging companions. They could've trimmed that Rodian snout in the patch.

If they released a minor patch just for those two, it would polish the silver all that more.

The scripts to trigger the Juhani romance check the global variable for gender to make sure it's set to female. They all do it. The dialogue has checks on gender as well to make sure the player is female before triggering certain Juhani conversation paths. It's very intentionally scripted that way, unless you really think someone made many simultaneous typos, all of which happened to change every "male" reference to "female".

For reference, here's the source of the script that sets the Juhani romance:
Notice the explicit check as to whether the player is female.

Anyone keen on the possibility of a heterosexual female light-side Revan saving a heterosexual dark-side Bastila? They don't really have to have a romantic relationship for the thing to work out, and I presume this is what can happen in the story anyway.

I think it'd be nice to see a female character made the canon version of KotOR III, light side or no. On past what-ifs, I think it could've worked out nicely if the dark-side ending of KotOR II was made canon, making it run the similar vein of the middle part of a trilogy being the darkest. Then Part 3 could have Revan and the third character teaming up against the Exile and the True Sith... or something to that effect.

I don't really see the point of canonizing light-side males as the KotOR heroes. God forbid a woman were able to save the galaxy without being second banana to some square-jawed Jedi hero (or the Jesus Jedi).

It can, although it's harder and less personal. Oddly enough, there's no option to save her through plain old friendship, male or female. It's either romance or some vague "The dark side is bad, remember the Jedi Code".

I agree. But as the game stands, I don't think KOTOR II is the place to do that. A female hero would be great, but I think that would interfere with the greater story in this case. It would be nice if this was taken into account in KOTOR III and the plot was equally deep for men and women, and I definitely think Jaden should have been female, as gender didn't make a difference one way or the other in that game.
