How old is your CD drive?

You might just need new drivers for the CD drive. Check the manufacturers web site.

    It's brand-new, with the computer.

Grr ... it installed on my old PC, so it should work ... granted, it wouldn't run after it was installed, so maybe it is the disc.

According to the Bioware support page, the full 1.01 patch will be out sometime within a week. This should help those of us who have technical problems still :)

Hi, I am having the same problem CieSharp had with the game freezing after the approach to dantooine movie, unfortunately updating the drivers on my radeon graphics card only helped somewhat. Before I would get a blank screen when the next level loaded with some music playing in the background. Now i get a frozen image of what looks like a hangar bay or something. Any tips?

Ok, so I played KOTOR for a few weeks without ever having a problem. Then I didn't play for about 3 weeks (stupid finals) and now it doesn't work. I play for about a minute and then it freezes up. I have the patch but it doesn't help. I have no idea what to do- it was running just fine before and now it's not working. And I have Christmas break, I was really planning on playing it. I am extremely angry.

Have you installed or altered your graphic card's drivers? It might be related to that...

I had the freeze ups after a while as well. The 1.01 patch sorted that for me though.

The patch didn't help and I have the updated drivers. Each time I play it, I get a few more lines through conversation and then it freezes again. I can't play the game. What do I do? :(

Try optimizing the hard drive before the drastic measures of a reformat. Also scan the drive for errors.

drastic? in under 2 hours you are back up and running.

Only if you don't have much software and don't use your computer for anything other than web browsing and email.

See how long it takes to reinstall Windows, MS Office, install software for all the peripherals and hardware, download and install new versions of miscellaneous software (& games), patches and updates for Windows, Office, and other software (& games), reconfigure all the system and software settings, etc., etc.

When I do it, it's usually a 6-8 hour ordeal.

I have a Intel 82845G/GL Graphics controller video card. The game said I needed an open GL graphics card. What's the difference?

Anyway, I disabled movies and I was able to run the game. However, it was very laggy and the words were shifted small.

The game recommends 512 mb RAM, I only have 384. What can I do besides getting a new comp?

I must play KOTOR or my life won't be complete...

EDIT: Try optimizing the hard drive before the drastic measures of a reformat. Also scan the drive for errors.

How do you optimize your hard drive?

Buy more RAM, they are not that expensive these days.

As for optimizing, if you are using Windows, then simply go Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

I'm not sure if this has been asked before.

Anyways, when I play KOTR, whenever a movie scene appears, the game constantly minimizes and it can take five minutes of constant maximizing before the damn thing will stop. I'm sure there is a way to fix this. . .but how?

Edit: It also does it when I minimize the game manually to do something else real quick, and then when I go to maximize it, it automatically minimizes for x amount of times. It is really starting to get annoying.

    Thanks for the help.

One more thing. What's the difference between a Intel Extreme Graphics card with an open GL?

The difference would be that it would be OpenGL compliant. From a cursory glance at Intel's website, it doesn't look like that chipset is OpenGL compliant. I don't have time to really dig right now though, so I could be wrong.

I am also experiencing the lockup right before Dantooine problem. Trouble is, NVidia GeForce has two different updates for two different XP systems. I have no idea which system mine is, so I downloaded one, installed it, it acted sorta buggy on the install, had a lot of errors, etc, and also recomended I don't install it, because it wasn't confirmed as compatible. Well, I went ahead anyhow, but now I'm downloading the *other* XP update, this one had *better* work. I'm also gonna get the 1.01 update of KotOR. I'm just posting here in case anyone else has any input on this problem. I'll also keep people informed as to whether I have any luck. Which I'd better. :(

It would help if you could give details of your graphics card.
