Seriously. No, they don't need one. They don't need much psyching up and they don't need to frighten the enemy any more than they do by just appearing in that kinky armour.

Seeing them appear silently is pretty intimidating...and spoils your entire day.

There'll be some interesting insights into this in RCTZ. I promise. How they prep for battle and such.

    Cool.

And what about LOTF II? I mean... Commandos are Mandalorians in some way, but Boba's Mandalorian Protectors should be quite different.

    EDIT:
The problem is just: When we talk about Mandos, we talk about a time between 4000 BBY to 40 ABY (or even from 30 000 BBY on, lol). So I think we need to specify some things. In four-thousand years a culture changes. As the language does.

Not necessarily. The Mandalorian Protectors were just Supercommandoes(just a lot more of them) and the Commando instructers were Mandos, so I doubt that many things would be different. Though, obviously maybe a little less commando work and more "grunt" work. Though, I'm still wondering what the hell that ship with the spiffy guns that launchs the drop ships to Korda Six in OP #@ is. Karen, please?

In the real world, yes, but that doesn't seem to be the case so much in the GFFA. I mean, even with all the differences between the KOTOR and PT eras, the Jedi have only changed in a few superficial ways, the galactic governments are similar in form, and technology has only evolved a fraction of what we would expect. When you compare those changes with the changes we've had between ancient Egypt and our times, it's pretty clear that cultural evolution evolves MUCH more slowly there than here.

Speaking of which, just how renowned amongst the Mandalorians was Bendak Starkiller?

he had the armor but its not specifically stated that he was a Mandalorian.

so did modern mando'a begin before or after the extinction of the grey simians?

In case of the Jedi, you are totally right. Also of the governments and so on. The Jedi always kept their ancient way, because they did not think about it. Later, the NJO came. And there we have "evolution".

The Mandalorians have been mercs and scum from a time of 3950 BBY until they were re-united by Jaster around 50 or 40 BBY. Jaster can hardly know, how the "ancient" Mandalorians worked, and I guess he changed some things. The armor (Supercommando Armor) was new. The "ancient" Mandos had Neo-Crusader armor, not Supercommando armor.

But maybe you are right, that after Jaster's True Mandos not much has been changed. Maybe Spar had changed some things as well and Fenn Shysa had adepted them, but we don't know. But the differences between Jaster's/Jango's True Mandalorians and Fenn Shysa's/Boba Fett's Mandalorian Protectors shouldn't be that big as the differences between Canderous Ordo's Neo-Crusaders and Jaster's True Mandos.

I should point out a coupla things.

Jaster *died* in 52 BBY, so he obviously reunited them prior to that (decades even, giving enough time for the Schism to occur).

Secondly, the Mandalorians used the "modern" armour in the New Sith Wars - witness the Mandalorians corpses on Ruusan in Jedi vs. Sith. So that armour is at least a 1,000 year old tradition by the time of the Clone Wars.

OK. Didn't know that. In that case, he probably re-united them rather around 70 BBY, I guess.

Again, didn't know that. Thx for that intel, aynway. I just thought that after KotOR they hadn't been active until Jaster showed up. Sorry. I'd better check out Jedi vs. Sith for that.

After, because it's a little different to the ancient version (not enough to give you any problems, let me say) and is nothing like the Dha Werda lyrics that were around ages ago (from a game?). I think someone posted them. That's one of the problems with continuity; retconning the really old stuff can be next to impossible. I took the RepCom lyrics as my starting point.

    Fine by me,

Karen, someone posted the Da Verda lyrics and translation? Where?

As I can't get the link to the translation to work still

If you're referring to the RepCom soundtrack, it's on the LucasArts Republic Commando page.

If it's whatever the other version was (sorry to be vague about that), I think it's on Rev. Tegoth's official Mandalorian thread.

Note on the translation of Dha Wherda werda:

There was never an official translation, just sidetext explaining the content. But because the words sounded familiar to my native language (German) and several others (latin, skandinavian languages, englisch words, etc.), I tried to create a partial translation based on these real life words it sounded like. partially it really sounds like something mandalorian, while other parts seem odd. my translation (the only one I know of, and in existance) is in the Insider 80 Mandalorian article thread. If you need it/want it here, just tell me and I copy the stuff in here.

Thanks for that. I suspect it's probably better to keep it separate to avoid confusing people. (You know what our attention span is like here...)

    yub ok.

just another thought on this: dha wherda werda mustn´t be mandalorian or taung language. it might be Zhell or any other spectator who documented it. but most of the time it is thought to be Taung.

All the Zhell died. A volcano erupted and killed them by covering their encampent in ash. Therefore, they could not have written it down. It was made by the Taung in celebration of the Zhell dying. I think.

Cross-posted from RCTZ thread, because I just HATE untidy off-topic threads.

Excellent attempt! Small grammar guide corrections, which of course you don't have at your disposal yet:

"Aruetyc Jetii'la hut'uun! Mhi Mando'ade ven shuku gar shebs."

    or

"Aruetyc hut'uun'la Jetii! Mhi Mando'ade ven shuku gar shebs."

Jetii would probably be given the adjectival form with the addition of the suffix -la or -yc, but it makes it hard to say, and ease of pronunciation is a consideration in Mando'a. Pronunciation is one reason why there are optional forms. You can also change the word order as in example 2 and say, "Traitorous cowardly Jedi..."

Ven is a tense prefix but jorso doesn't mean "shall" - it's part of the verb for to bear or carry. Brokar means to beat as in heartbeat or beating a drum - the best verb to use is shukur, to break, smash or tear apart.

The addition of r gives you the infinitive.
