There was that concept art from TFA showing Luke appearing in sand or smoke. Maybe that gets reused. Maybe he just shows up as environment/ghost/elemental.

I think when Luke says, “no one is ever really gone,” he means he will be around offering voice overs for decades to come. :D:p

When Jesus returned it wasn't forever, he did his thing, passed on his messages and then ascended to Heaven. Even in religious doctrine there is no unlimited resurrection, an odd fact is one of the main documentaries of the resurrection and ascension comes in the Gospel of Luke.

All of that means little, the similarities were between Anakin and Jesus, not Luke.

Off topic, but I’ll bite. Jesus has not yet returned (Revelation 19:11-16). First the Beast (antichrist, Man of Sin) must conquer the nations and rule for three years and half (Revelation 13:7-18). Unlimited resurrection is promised, “It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed, ” (1 Corinthians 15:52) for those who confess and believe in Jesus Christ (John 3:16, John 6:40, Romans 10:9-10, 1 John 4:15).

Back to Luke Skywalker. He is One with the Force as of TLJ, and so I imagine he will guide Rey when she is in need. It would be interesting if GL’s vision of Force Ghost become incarnate again, as in Obi-Wan coming to help Luke fight the Emperor in One of the ROTJ drafts becomes reality. It would be interesting if Luke returns to help Rey and Ren against Palpatine.

Yes; from the perspective of TLJ, you are not incorrect. I take issue with that perspective in and of itself. To me, this take on the Force Ghost Mystery is fundamentally flawed within context of the rest of the saga. If RJ had been creating a new saga completely unattached to Star War his version of a Yoda type character manifesting after death would likely be fine, in that context. It's the very idea that somehow this what Force Ghosthood looks like in TGFFA because RJ says so that is absolutely, totally, and in all other ways unpalatable.

In IX I sincerely hope they introduce some sort of limitations on what Force-ghosts can do. I find the prospect of this new simplified version of Force-ghostdom to cause the whole story to edge ever closer to infinite deus ex machina boredom. There has to be a difference between the living and omnipresent super-galactic force oneness and life itself should still be a desirable state.

I do like the idea that those who trained their consciousness in the light as Qui Gon had discovered/re-discovered achieve a certain sort of freedom and those who seek selfish immortality as Palpatine did achieve imprisonment, bound to a physical object (death star II ruins). That would be cool. Too cool, I think, for the ST.

My take on why Luke's physical death was hard to handle for many fans is this:

Yes, for Luke himself as a spirit, there's really no downside to leaving his physical body and becoming "more powerful than you can possibly imagine." That's actually a good trade for Luke. The ultimate upgrade.

Where it starts to pain fans is when we feel the loss of Luke that other characters will feel.

What else do we know about Force Ghosts? They only appear to specific people, and they appear infrequently and for brief stretches of time.

Part of the sad feeling we have for Luke's death is not for Luke himself but for Leia, Rey, Chewie, the droids and whomever else would have had a strong relationship with him and a lot more time with him had he lived physically. When you care about all those characters around Luke, then his loss of a physical body is palpable, even though we know Luke himself will be fine.

    ReySky debunked!

Just kidding. Though, he should have said "undetermined YET" if he only wanted not to be spoilery.

Anyone think we will be getting a flashback seeing Luke interact with young Ben/students in IX?

Their was a rumor about a scene of Han and Leia dropping off young Ben at his academy.

The faces of the students that remained loyal to Luke deserve at least a little screen time.

Academy flashback can plant seeds for future content.

It will be dissipointing for me if TLJ flashbacks remained the only ones of the ST showing that era.

But that is not the resurrection that followed The Crucifixion that I was referring to, you're referring to the Second Coming of Christ. Though the reference to the Beast ruling for 7 years before the second coming could be transferred to the First Order, it makes things interesting if you're looking for religious inspirations. Then the real juicy bit that you missed, "Behold the Lion of Judah! The Messiah, who came first as a child, but returns not as a child, but now as King of Kings..."

That is all about the final victory, the end of wars and the end of tears and death so may be it's relevance is more than the aftermath of the crucifixion.

This is a bit off topic, but I was just thinking that I don't know if I would feel satisfied (even though I know MH will only appear once, maybe twice in the film), with Luke gazing admiringly at Rey in a blue haze at the end of the film. Of course, I know that he will appear in spirit rather than in flesh, but they need to do something different in terms of what the Jedi could achieve after death. That or Luke needs to appear at a pivotal point in the story.

Heck with it. I know that Luke said "It's your fight now", to Rey in the Trailer; but I think Luke is going to do something surprising. I want to see Luke fight Palpatine, at the same time that Rey is fighting Kylo Ren. Whether it is in the Beyond, or in the flesh (if Palpatine ends up being able to materialize in the living world). :greensaber: :redsaber:

I just see it as Yoda being better at ghosting than his predecessors were, due to Yoda being stronger in the force and presumably having learned more about the technique. Qui-Gon was the first to come back, but could only do so as a voice, and not even in a way that could easily make itself heard (it seemed Yoda had to really concentrate to hear him in ROTS.) Obi-Wan took it a step further, and was able to come back in a sort of shimmering form. Yoda took it another step further and came back more clearly. It does make me wonder how Luke will come back. Will JJ give him the the Obi-Wan shimmering style, or a more solid look like Yoda. We know Lucas originally wanted the ghosts to return to completely living form, so it's possible that idea will get used, but I doubt it. I suspect we might just see ghosts in their most tangible forms.

I took it that what you suggest is probably what was intended, sure. I just don't particularly care for the characterization. Less the solidity of Yoda's form and more Yoda's behavior, nonsense 'pep' talk, the smug look and the lightning. The lightning and the solidity bothered me the least. As a package, I found the scene irksome, to say the least.

To say on topic: no matter what happens, I'm sure Mark Hamill's performance will be impeccable.

Lol kinda scary. Master Luke can appear at any time, even when you’ve got a Bantha size poop.

Ren: Uh uncle, a little privacy..
Luke: You went straight to the Dark!

I actually wonder if Luke as force ghost will interact with Kylo at all. He alteady did a similiar thing at the end of TLJ and sees Kylo has no intention of redemption. To appear again as a force ghost would serve little purpose, unless it plants a seed that only Jedi csn come back via force ghost. However, that might change is Palpatine returns.

Before this past week, I would have said there was a 0% chance of Luke coming back from the dead.

But between the title reveal, Palpatine's return in some form, JJ's politely ambivalent comments about TLJ, and Mark's extra playful trolling of late, I'd up those chances to 10%. Still very unlikely, but I'd no longer rule it out completely (and I say this as a fan of TLJ).
