I think Luke is aboard the Falcon for the Crait battle with Rey and Chewy.
Chewy has no visible co-pilot in the Porg scene because it's probably before the Falcon has actually taken off. His body language and demeanour aren't of someone engaged in battle.
Luke and Rey are in the back somewhere playing 'Rock-paper-scissors' to decide who plays gunner, and who joins Chewy up front ;)

Plus, if Chewie was the sole pilot, wouldn't he be in the left/driver's seat?

Chewie has flown the Falcon from the "Right" seat when Han is away doing things in other parts of the ship. And that's always his spot, so if he's the captain at some point in TLJ, I don't see why he'd switch seats when he's used to the same one for 30+ years. Oh, Han's dead let me sit in his seat now? Nah.

Yeah, the Mighty Chewbacca rescues Rey and Finn from the co- pilot seat I think.

Edit: I was wrong, he is in Han's seat.

it is still the co-pilots seat. He stayed there for brief periods when Han left to do repairs or man the turret because Han would be back at some point. If he's the only one flying the ship, you'd think he'd actually be in the pilot's seat

It makes sense, the pilot, whether that be Rey or Luke is manning the guns or doing some maintenance so Chewie stays in the co-pilots seat.

Right, it only makes sense if Chewie is still the co-pilot

Rey is flying the Falcon here in these and as you can see the same tear in the pilot's seat is visible that's in the Chewie/Porg shot:

I am embarrassed to admit this never occurred to me, and I think it would be fabulous if it played out this way.

IMO, that line was an important plot point that went straight over some people's heads. They intentionally drew attention to Chewie's crossbow being a powerful weapon to explain how badly hurt Kylo Ren was when he was shot before dueling Finn and Rey. That's how Finn in particular was able to hold his own with Kylo for a few minutes.

I hope not. The last thing I want to see in this movie is SuperRey rescuing Luke from Snoke

That's what Hamill was trying to get people to think about, more Rey than Luke.

Mark Hamill: “Well [Luke]’s a completely different person. He had an arc [in the original trilogy], and I think Carrie [Fisher] and Harrison [Ford] admitted their characters were pretty much the same throughout, but Luke was always changing. Now we have this 30-year gap between the films, so a lot of if is conjecture. It’s not specifically my story – Rey is now the protagonist.” (April 14, 2017)

No, because having a barely trained force user rescuing the most powerful Jedi ever and THE original Star Wars hero from the new big bad is asinine and would only enforce the MarySueRey idea.

I think membersincetuesday should watch telling a tenured member of the community here to get out. Not an endearing quality to jump in the game with.

I'm with you, T-R-. I really don't want to hear any more of that talk about Rey, and such a scenario -- especially in the middle of the trilogy when she's not yet fully trailed, would only make it so much worse. Vader handed Luke his ass in ESB. Rey has to be humbled to make her a fully realized character so the big payoff can come in IX.

Exactly. Both Anakin and Obi-Wan were rescued by Yoda from an 80 some year old in AotC. Luke chose to die in TESB to escape Vader. Rey shouldn't be doing the rescuing in TLJ. She should be the one getting rescued. Bad enough she rescued herself in TFA.

So the automatic assumption is it goes well and Rey succeeds ? im inclined to disagree, there might be an attempt by Rey but who can really say how its going to go and if it will be bad. The point here is everyone was looking for Luke in TFA including Snoke and his FO, why would that all of a sudden change in TLJ ?

So she can't make a doomed rescue attempt amd not be humbled in the process ? Im not saying this how its going to go but im not going to write off any plausible ideas due to some pre concieved notions and bias about how characters should be, what they should do and how the story should unfold. Thats just setting yourself up for dissapointment.

I don't think that's the assumption at all; I think we are just saying it would be a bad idea storywise to have Rey so powerful 2/3 of the way through the story that she once again saves the day.

I like Rey; I don't want them to make her so perfect that people turn on her.

But you're assuming. You just said you don't want Rey to save the day, we have no idea if she even will but she could certainly make an attempt and be doomed to fail. All Im saying is that she could attempt it through over confidence, out of loyalty, a lot like Luke in Empire or Anakin in AOTC. Personally I just fail to see how all of a sudden Rey is the prize, and not the guy everyone spent the entirety of TFA looking for.

Rey really needs more flaws to make her interesting at this point she's just an overpowered, perfect Disney princess that Kathleen Kennedy seems to keep pushing, having her save Luke is one way to make really despise her. It would be like Padawan Anakin saving Yoda from Dooku.
