Spoiler: Star Wars: Revelations

Well, that was extremely weird.
Two most interesting moments
1) A droid revolution happened during the High Republic era
2) Aphra and Domina Tagge kissing
my favourite ship with the doctor

although so far just in the form of a vision.

 

A couple fun Legends callbacks in that Revelations issue:

"Kligson's Moon" refers back to original Star Wars #47, the famous "Droid World" story that was later turned into a book and record set. And Mechis III needs no introduction to anyone who read the old Tales of the Bounty Hunters paperback. Appropriate tie-ins for a story about a droid revolutionary, I'd have to say.

I thought I saw that the Droid World reference was in the High Republic era, is that right? Maybe Kligson's Moon is a family estate.

 

Ouch! Star Wars Legends: New Republic Omnibus 2 will have a RRP of $150!

This is the one collecting Thrawn and Dark Empire trilogies. Talk about a blatant cash-in.

 

I almost hesitate to ask this, but... Ben, you're not actually buying these, are you? You're just reporting rates?

Because I assume you have them all already from when the EU used to be in full swing. But I know there exists that small element of the fan base that buys every version of every book or comic published.

 

I don't ever buy Marvel Omnibuses full price, 40-45% discounts are common. But, with the economic chaos wrecking the £-$ relationship the prices have increased significantly even with discount applied.

RRP $100 used to go for £48-49, now it is £55-56. RRP $125 has gone from £57-59 to £67-69. On a RRP of $150? That's where it gets too expensive. Even when the Omnibus is collecting 50-odd issues. It can't even be justified by a low per-issue cost.

I have a deluxe copy of DE via the DHC Luke Skywalker, Last Best Hope slipcased OHC and don't care that much about the Thrawn Trilogy comics, but where one Omnibus hits $150, others follow.

 

I’ll be buying this particular omnibus. I don’t have the Thrawn comics in print form and this is really my only chance to get them. It’s just money at the end of the day. To me, Star Wars books have a sentimental value that far exceeds their monetary worth. I’d rather have the exquisite Thrawn comics in printed form than $150.

 

I love HC/OHC releases alot and prefer to own then over standard paperbacks but when it comes to Marvel Omnibuses they are simply too big for me as reading material I'll take the Epic Collections anyday even if I pay more in the end.

 

It also depends on how many other comics you buy. If you are strictly SW only, it'll still blow a hole in your bank account but a more manageable one.

It's interesting that Chewbacca's in this collection and not with the rest of the NJO comics, I guess there was more room for it here.

 

Near Mint Condition just posted an overview of the War of the Bounty Hunters omnibus on their youtube channel. I skimmed through the video and it looks like the issues are all included in chronological order, which is a big win. Similar event omnis from Marvel like Daredevil: Shadowland are grouped by series which I always find disappointing.

I preordered mine on Amazon and it’s supposed to be delivered today, but unfortunately I won’t be opening it until the 25th. I’m looking forward to reading this one again, now in oversized format!

 

With a Doctor Aphra Omnibus 2 set for next June and Marvel's double dip tendencies I'm inclined to go for that, as it has v2 #1-25.

As I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel do omnibuses for the other books.

 

So I’ve been delving into the comics recently particularly the main Star Wars run.

I picked up the collected war of the bounty hunters stuff and now I’m looking at crimson reign the only question I have if some one could help me @Jedi Ben maybe?

They're not.

Marvel tend to go for an event model where they do an event mini-series but also runs arcs in relation to it in the ongoing books too.

Of your duo, one is the main Crimson Reign mini and the other is the tie-in arc ran in the Star Wars ongoing.

 

Brilliant the war of the bounty hunters felt a lot more straight forward then this.

 

War of the Bounty Hunters is the same kind of structure so you can use that to help navigate Crimson Reign and later Hidden Empire.

 

Yeah I got the omnibus on my kindle.

 

I'm sceptical of that Omnibus now because there's a Dr Aphra Omnibus 2 set for June 2023. Might be they do one for Vader and SW runs, with the three minis integrated into the SW one.

They have been doing some quite outrageous double dipping on OHCs / Omnibuses over the last few years. E.g. Aphra Omnibus 1 after doing an OHC of the first 12 issues.

That's what I've got too.

There's still a fair few young readers comics that have been left out, though. I wonder if Dark Horse can reprint them, now that they have that part of the license back.

I figured "Spare Parts" and "Fred Jawa" from Tales #4 and #20 would be in the ANH Epic, but I guess not. For some reason, "Spare Parts" is listed as taking place in 4 ABY on Wookieepedia, so maybe it'll turn up in the SotE/RotJ Epic.
