Air Force rations were, generally, better. My wife’s great uncle who we took care of for five years in his final years, and who was based in England and flew 25 bomber missions over Germany as a waist-gunner, said “We were hot shots. They even gave us fresh eggs in the morning.” :)

In any event, the romantic stuff so far has been brief and PG, yes. But you can’t say it’s nonexistent if there are examples of it in the first two episodes, including the opening scene which involves…two of the main characters and their girlfriends.

I think some people are also having difficulty adjusting from the infantry life stories in BOB to the Air Force life stories with airmen based in England.

But based on the stories I heard from my wife’s great uncle? The show seems authentic as hell.

I agree and absolutely love the show so far to be expected from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks as John Hammond said Expect No Less! You always get the best from those two!

@Leoluca Randisi when I get a chance (probably the weekend) I'll look and see if there's anything about that division in some of the books I have about the Battle of the Bulge. I'm sure they are mentioned quite a bit, as the name was immediately familiar. I usually just focus on sections directly related to my great uncle, but that sounds like it would be a very interesting story to read of what they did specifically.

Sure thing! This was my grandma's brother. The patches are 2nd Armored Division and 67th Regiment. My grandma kept the locket and charm in her jewelry box. The knife and casings were things he sent home. The photo is the last one taken of the entire family (colorized). He got to come home for a couple days before deploying. He got to Normandy on June 9 as part of reinforcement and was part of Operation Cobra. He was wounded in Holland in September (that's what this Purple Heart was for) and in a Red Cross facility somewhere in England until late December when he rejoined just in time for the Bulge. Unfortunately his tank was blown up on Jan 3, 45.

@jedi_master_ousley , that's a great shadow box. I don't envy him - or anybody - the Purple Heart. Just glad I never qualified for it.

A very good third episode. This one really struck hard emotionally. Even the calm before the mission got to me. Had trouble holding it together even before they left, that’s how well-done the feeling of a near-suicide mission was presented.
And then the way Barry Keoghan’s character died hit me hard. He was perhaps my favorite in the show, too. So really sad to see him go.

I just saw ep 1. Didn't love the characters right off the bat like Band of Brothers, but they're definitely real people. The CGI looked better than I expected; not as good as real airplanes, but there just aren't enough B-17s flying to make that practical any more. (In fact, all B-17s are presently grounded for cracks in the wings.) I loved watching them run checklists and operate the systems; I'm not qualified to fly a B-17, but I did go up in one, and I think they got all the details right. It should feel more cramped inside the plane, though. Flight engineers featured prominently, doing what we do, fixing the electrics and hand-cranking the landing gear back-up emergency extension system, and lots of time looking over the pilots' shoulders.

What really got me the most is when the crews were woken up in the dark for their first mission. Yeah, that was exactly how it was for me on my first mission, even the big breakfast with eggs and bacon. The pre-mission briefing IRL goes on a lot longer and is much more detailed, but they got the abbreviated highlights right. And the way the crews talk to each other, giving each other a hard time, that's exactly right.

I think some of the plane footage was real not all CGI

The character development rolls out more slowly than in BoB, I think, and so they take more time to warm to. And then the two main characters have a higher facade than a lot of the others. But by episode three, I was fully invested in all of them, and could feel my stomach tightening before that mission.

I agree I liked all the episodes but I cried for the first time in episode 3 watching characters I've grown to love die. It does have a slow build up your right. My dad who his dad was in the 740th tank Batallion Daredevil Tankers my dad has cried at every episode...

I was tearing up before they even take off in episode 3. The way the briefing plays out, and the certainty that many wouldn’t make it to the other side of the mission, was really gut-wrenching.

Really enjoyed the new episode episode 4 finally got the long awaited love stories! But I felt because of the side story it took away from showing the Arial mission with the planes and some crucial deaths of characters we have grown to love were missed in the episode so there wasn't that same emotion from the soldiers lost in battle. I still really enjoyed the episode a lot but hope next weekd episode is better! And the side story I mean the soldiers trapped in Belgium.

I think the side story's focus is on purpose, and I assume we'll find out more about the last mission and its fallout in the next ep.

I read an article that said the real Bucky survived the war and they think they purposefully didn't show the Ariel battle that Bucky supposedly died because he really didn't die they could bring him back.

I believe I posted this earlier the guy thought it was mostly pretty accurate! If not this video it was a similar video different veteran may be!
This is my take on episode 4 but after hearing speculation that may be Bucky didn't die and the real guy in history survived the war and there is a big reason the mission wasn't shown could be to bring back Bucky in future episodes I feel different about it now to when I filmed this.
Sorry about that last part in the video about my sickness I know TMI sorry my apologies also can I post the Spotify soundtrack of the show? I don't think there are any major spoilers in the titles?

Yes, it was a deliberate narrative choice. And a good one, IMO. Not only because of the fate of Bucky, which Luca spoiled for you. :) But for two other reasons as well. First, the other airmen thought he and his crew were dead for the duration of war. So we get to experience the reality of the situation from their perspective, instead of just ours. And so that heightens the immersive realism of the show (this is also how we learn about characters - through other airmen, and not with backstories told specially for the audience). Secondly, we saw three bomber missions in the first three episodes. It was time to do something different in order to avoid redundancy.

These choices really demonstrate the quality of the creative team behind the show. I’m impressed.

I think my problem with this is - I just haven't taken to any of the characters, especially the 2 leads , Buck and Bucky.

    well ....

Sorry for the spoiling my bad.
I feel the exact opposite not only am I relating to the characters in a big way so much so when they die on screen I cry but excellent script that I can relate to on so many levels a lot of anecdotal things about life that makes me think about things.
