A/V Maul: Shadow Lord

Covering ten years in one show would be ambitious...

I honestly wonder if it might be a two season show like resistance or three like Bad Batch. Just...gives me a shorter story vibe for some reason.

 

I think probably three seasons to be honest.

 

Unless they want do two Maul shows i think they have to do big time jumps. I think three seasons is maybe too small for such an ambitious show

 

I think three seasons of 15+ episodes could work - basically post-ROTS for one (build the organization, face Inquisitors, give more CW backstory), one contemporaneous with Solo (integrate Vos and Qira, expand on plots from that era), and one leading into Rebels Season 2.

I'd be game for more, but I don't think they should fill in every moment of Maul's life between CW S7 and Maul's death in Rebels - leave plenty of space for books or comic series

 

I dont see that work for one show that does big time jump each season.

 

This is the impression I get too. TCW lasted so long because it was about more than just Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka. There were side arcs with other characters. I can't see a show focused on Maul making it to five seasons.

The thing about Maul is that he's been very inconsistently developed over the years. TCW-Maul is not Movie Maul. TCW-Maul is fun to watch but he's a raving lunatic. Someone said in another thread today that he's "Shakespearean", but honestly, in what way besides being tragic? He's not even ironically tragic. If TCW-Maul is like any Shakespearean character, it'd be Ophelia from Hamlet. But Movie Maul, and to some extent Book Maul, is extremely serious and taciturn. Maul from Solo was channeling Maul from TPM. When TCW-Maul tries to channel this seriousness, he comes across more like a businessman. Then he usually ends up breaking mentally and goes psycho, which has now happened in more than one TCW arc (and Rebels too). Presumably, that's the Maul we're getting in the next series. I can't see that Maul lasting more than a couple of seasons, especially when he keeps riding the same emotional rollar coaster and we know how his story ends.

 

I think being cut in half can excuse a bit of emotional instability.

I'd say 3 seasons. Around the length of Bad Batch or Resistance, basically.

 

I think it be the most ambitious like Clone Wars, so i think 4-5 sessons like Rebels. 3 seasons to tell the story of Maul, a 14 years is too short. Unless they plan do many more shows with Maul. Bad Batch and Resistance were small time shows.

Why do you think it will be that long? I can't see how it could be longer than 3 seasons without really stretching out the story and having too much filler.

 

I think 3 seasons of 12-15 episodes each is probably the standard length of animated series going forward. The animation style itself isn’t as cheap to produce as it was when Lucas funded it, so they’ll probably never get 5-7 season shows again.

That said, in theory a Maul show could possibly go on for a while considering there’s a whole decade until Solo, and several years after that are unaccounted for.

 

Well, Solo was supposed to lead into a series of underworld focused films that led to a big gang war, and it was Solo who introduced Maul as an imperial era crime lord, and there is still the Lando film in development...so I could see Maul's fall being depicted in live action films or shows spinning off there and just have the animated series for the rise.

Yeah, I do miss TCW's anthology approach sometimes. Kept things fresh, gave a fuller picture so on and etc.
