The movie is not anti-semetic, Sau Den's comment was.

That's what I meant. How is the truth anti-semetic? I mena, that's a good question.

No it isn't. Sau-dens comment appears to apply to the Jews as a whole, rather than the small group of Pharisees at a particular location in ancient times.

Well, that's who he was talking about, was the people in ancient times.

i just saw the movie last night and i'm still shaken. that's the only way to describe it. i'm utterly shaken. i wasn't able to move after the movie was over. i just sat there through the entire credits thinking, amazed. i still break down in tears when i think about those wounds. and the truth is in reality Jesus looked much MUCH worse during the actual crucifixion. i hope other Christians understand what i mean by this - to see those marks on His body -- i inflicted those. that's my sin. and i so casually sin and then say "oops, my bad, sorry God." my entire view has changed. my sin is another wound in His body. i didn't know how to react after the movie. part of me wanted to just fall to my knees and wail but another part of me wanted to dance before my God because it ends victoriously...

i'm rambling. i'm still trying to collect my thoughts on it.

While watching this movie I started thinkin. Now the Jews are still waiting for their Messiah, right? Well how the hell are they ever going to get one when one comes along and they reject and crucify him?

First off, according to the Jewish beliefs, Jesus was not the Messiah because he did not fulfill certain requirements, and the Messiah was not supposed to be the Son of God, but a man.

Second, that's rather disrespectful of their beliefs.

And please, someone find me pictures of Satan and or the demonic kids.

I found the movie to be highly moving. It is the only movie I have gone to that has left the theatre silent. I felt like I was there and jumped at every striking of the nail. It made me reflect that His love for me is what kept Him up there and that my sins were the reason He suffered.

Do you guys think that The Passion will be up for any Oscars next year?

I believe that it will be nominated in some of the technical catagories, like cinematography/make-up/sound/costumes.

But for the major awards, like acting/directing/best picture, its really hard to say. All best picture nominees are usually films that have an 80% positive rating or higher. The Passion has a 53% positive rating. However, most of the negative reviews I've read focus on the violence as the major negative factor while they praise or give props to the acting and directing. So it might have a chance.

But if there's any justice at all, The Passion will sweep the Oscars next year.

Oh wait, justice at the Oscars? What was I thinking? That's just foolishness.

Even though we're in the first quarter of the year I doubt any acting will match Caviezel's, especially with what he went through. Two real whippings, a dislocated shoulder, having to wake up at 2:00 AM to put make-up on then to be put out in the freezing cold in a loin cloth while others wore thick coats, and of course he had to speak Aramaic(s/p)! To speak another language that's totally unfamiliar to you and look like you're feeling what you say is... I don't know how authentic sounding his Aramaic accent was, though. Of course there's the whole lightning incident as well ;)
To be put through all that and to still be successfull and put on a moving performance has to be worthy of something!

And about the Oscars, for some reason I see Cold Mountain winning. The whole anti-war + love story + "The strong women!" + "Oscar quality" cliches, I could just see it right now.

    I saw it earlier tonight

During Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers I flinched maybe once or twice, there were entire scenes I could barely manage to watch in The Passion. I can't remember the last time i cried at a movie theatre, but as Jesus begged god to forgive his tormentors i couldn't help it. The idea that someone could endure so much pain, and still love those responsible, moves me deeply

It was an excellent movie, and one I think everyone should see regardless of what religion you are. Even if only to better understand the beliefs of others, it is a film that no one should miss

"so that a disrespectful little runt like you could enter the kingdom of heaven!"

And that, my friend, sums up everything I've learned about the attitudes of Christians. [face_plain]

i think jim caviezel did an amazing job. there was such emotion in his performance. it was exactly how i picture my Christ. real, human, emotional. there was something even about his eyes... just his expressions as he portrayed Jesus facing the "trial" was right on target i think... it was incredible.

edit: do we really have to "take sides" about this? please, knock it off.
