Back when this one was first released as a single, it baffled me for months ("Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode):

    Pleasures reaming,
    Soldiers burping,
    Words are meaningless, and forgettable.

    When it's actually

    Pleasures remain,
    So does the pain,

    Words are meaningless,
    etc.

Thanks to JediAngela for posting that website link, confirming that we're not alone in our misunderestimating. [face_peace]

Whoever guesses the song that line came from gets 25 cool points.

    Hint: Strilo would recognize it.

    Couple of them for me:

For years I thought Elton John was singing "Hold me close now Tony Danza", it wasn't until I was 17 that I realized he was saying "tiny dancer". Every time I heard that song I kept thinking "Man, he's being awfully forward for a song, don't you think?"

Second one is R.E.M.'s song "What's The Frequency Kenneth?". Again, for years I thought Stipe was saying "You want a shock, buy a lamprey, uh huh" only to later find out that he was saying "You wore a shirt of violent green, uh huh"

Finally, the song "Africa" by Toto was one that had me puzzled for years. The chorus line of "I bless the rains down in Africa" wasn't too clear to me and I heard it as several things: "I caught some rays down in Africa", "I've robbed some trains down in Africa", "I've got a plane down in Africa", and "I went insane down in Africa".

When I was younger I thought Neil Diamonds song Forever in Blue Jeans was A Reverend in Blue Jeans...

I always thought it was "I guess it rains down in Africa."

    Anyway, here's a good one: Ted's Pants

Hey, if those were the real lyrics, I'd have it on my iPod.
