OOC: This is a slight variation on the company that was going to replace NERV?s robots with their own. This gives a slightly more realistic and dangerous idea that NERV was in actual danger of being replaced by SEELE. Feel free to override but I think its cool.
Area 51

General Saul Barton stood before the six CAIN-Units which were creations of the best United States genetics mixed with robotics. Unlike the EVA units which were almost completely flesh the CAIN-units were only the EVA?s brain, spinal cord, digestive system, and pilot-womb. They would be able to generate AT-Fields and deal with the Evangelion projects in short order.

?Our spy in NERV genetics has provided us all the data we need for this project,? The General spoke as he put his cigar in his mouth and lit it up.

?Man those are ugly robots,? Maya Hibiki said as the young pilot of Steel wondered whether she too would be sent off to NERV Japan. Instead it seemed more likely she would be piloting one of these demonic black craft for the B.A.A.L the Biological.Allied.Alliance.Liason which had been until recently a division of the United States research committee but had been raised as a counterpart to NERV. ?Why do we need these to fight angels now??

?Its not your place to question orders soldier. You?re like my idiot son in that and why he got shipped off from Japan. If the United States can show its independence from the United Nations by defending itself against Angels we can humiliate them and put an end to NERV. Besides then your friends James, Karou, and Charlie can all come home and isn?t that nice??

In truth Barton?s objections were more based on his membership in SEELE and hatred for Commander Ikari. He didn?t believe Ikari was working for them but intended to subvert the project somehow. These weapons would be his tools to killing everyone in NERV should the need arise?.and perhaps also take the planet from Seele.

He was somewhat skeptical about ?Artifical Evolution Project? to say the least.

?I guess that?s good?.when will they be ready?? Maya said.

?I?ve already pulled a few strings my dear. The incident with Unit-00 will be on national television. After the new EVA units are delivered by Agent Kaji the United Nations is going to hold a massive investigation into the budget, security, and leadership of NERV.?

He said ?We?re going to offer BAAL and the CAIN-units as an alternative. Independent nations forming their own defenses. With any luck they?ll be disbanded and at the very least a formal suspension of operations as everyone is called to testify.?

And Seele would alter man forever.

Misato?s party

Misato shivered as she looked up at Makato.

?Something wrong?? he asked.

?It?s weird. I just got a shiver for some reason,? Misato said. She definitely needed to talk to Shinji and Asuka though about recent events. Rei had brought up some very good points and they definitely needed to be addressed. She didn?t want to give up either of her wards though but if the Angel threat was dealt with?.well Asuka had a mother and a father.

She also knew that recently Shinji had come to know things about operations that probably weren?t his purview?..she?d confront James about it. However it then occurred to her that the pilots had a RIGHT to know about things?.

Third Impact, what they were trying to accomplish, and what Misato knew the Angels to be. After all Adam WAS an alien life form that crash landed in the ice 13 years ago and her father had gone to investigate only to have the beast explode Second Impact and release an indeterminate number of eggs across the world.

The EVAs were made from the remains of Adam supposedly torn to pieces in Germany and Unit-01 from Lilith that was supposedly killed with a series of N2 mines in Neo-Tokyo, creating the Geo-front.

It was weird?.it had never sounded so made up to her before.

Shinji had gone to his room and had pulled out his cell phone. He dialed Charlies number but after the 32nd ring he had hung up. 'Dammit. I want to know what this means exactly. Does that mean the madness that was in Unit-00 has now transferred to Rei?' he thought to himself.

There was a knock at the door and Shinji became pannicked. He crumpled up the letter and shoved it in his pocket. "Come in." he said, voice shaky.

The door opened slowly and Asuka poked her head in. "Are you coming back out to the party Baka, or are you just going to laz around in your room.?" It was softened by the way she was smiling at him. Then she stepped into the room as she saw his expression. "What's wrong?"

He pulled out the letter and handed it to her. "James left that for me, doesn't that explain her odd behavior and loose tongue?"

Asuka looked at the message and blinked. "Uhhhh...."

Asuka paused a moment "Shinji, I..." she was not addressing the love thing, not now. Especially even now that Rei's little speech had her on the verge of panic. She wanted to strangle Wondergirl and it was emotion she was handling in her usual way of REPRESSING them by taking note she had just found stupid-Shinji and now she had to give him up or lose her piloting or love him SHINJI....the antithesis of the ubermale despite a cute butt and still lose him by sheer distance value. "Do you really think becoming an extrovert is a sign she's possessed?"

Odd, she suddenly shuddered remembering how those red eyes had looked at her....they had been....evil.

Almost like Commander Ikari's and Doctor Akagi's mixed together.

Shinji looked at her. "What, you just think of something?"

"Yeah, have you tried phoning James? We need to talk to him right now." she replied.

"Yes I tried but no answer, we have to find him. I say we leave and go look for him, this is a serious problem, not something that can be solved with our Evas smashing an Angel."

"Your right and you know what, your cute when you take charge."

"Asuka." he said sternly.

"Sorry, I'm still a little drunk." she snickered.

"Sorry I was just thinking Rei's look is alot like your father's now and Doctor Akagi's, the way she's...nevermind. I do have an idea though about how we can ask Poindexter about all this...." Asuka raised a finger "HEY MISATO! WHERE'S JAMES?"

"He's back at Nerv headquarters. He asked to pull overtime rewriting The Eva's neural pathways feed system," Misato said back.

"Okay. Let's head there and ask him," Asuka said happily.

Misato saw the two of them leaving. "Where are you two going on Christmas Eve?"

"Umm..well....uh.." Shinji stammered out.

Asuka to the rescue. "We're going out to find a place to consumate our love Misato," she said sappy love dripping like honey from her mouth, "we can't really do it here with all these people around and we're of legal age, right Shinji-kun." she had started to snuggle his neck.

Shinji was speechless but for the sake of the situation managed to see through his 'pitched tent'. "Uh..yes Asuka-chan." he kissed her hair. "Bye Misato."

And the two were out the door. "Let's go Shinji." The two picked up a rail car straight to Nerv HQ.

Shinji sighed. Asukas performance was so realistic but he wasn't sure if she had meant any of it. He followed her to the waiting rail car.

Asuka nuzzled up close to Shinji even as she chuckled. It made him so uncomfortable. She didn't know what she'd actually do though if he ever made a move though. She thought about how her mother and father had gotten married because of her....and her mother had found nothing good come out of her....no she wasn't going to think like that.

NERV HQ was practically abandoned on Christmas despite the fact it was a secular holiday in Japan. Alot had also been shut down for maintainence since the battle with the Second Angel had required massive refittings to have its corpse examined. "Don't worry Shinji, I know my way to the Control rooms!

Section-14

"And then the meteorite struck Antarctica and begun Second Impact by melting all the ice caps at once while sending shock tremors throughout the planet that leveled half the world's cities under debris. Curiously large amounts of individuals were known to have directly dissapeared, a process later confirmed to be the result of radiation exposure...." Sensei Hoyari continued Second impact studies. A class that was designed to help students from gradeschool through college to understand the tragedy and try to help the people of planet Earth reverse its effects by knowing where they were needed as citizens.

James as usual was absent as he spent a great deal of time at NERV anyway and really only attended school whenever he felt like it. He had not felt like it very much lately though he usually showed up after school to meet them. Rei Ayanami though had replaced Asuka as the most popular girl in school though and Kensuke had already started writing love notes to her, everyone liked her including teachers. Only the kids and a few girls whom were afraid of her weren't getting into fights over her attention.

Only Karou was as well liked and that's because she was everyone's doormat and did constant favors for everyone by taking over for their work.

Shinji sat at his desk looking out the window. He had no idea how to stop this freight train. He couldn't even warn his friends of Dr. Akagi's take over of Rei. 'I will help you.' he thought to himself.

He glanced 'Rei', seated in her usual place and winced slightly, knowing the evil that resided in that body. She turned to look at him and he briefly thought that maybe she could read minds and shut down his current line of thinking. Asuka was right, they were eyes of a predator.

He looked up to the clock and wished he could get out of school as quickly as possible and be far away from her as possible. It was almost as if he could feel her evil presence and that unerrved him down to his very being.

The school bell rang after Rei gave her essay on Doctor Aoi Akagi before the class. The woman whom was one of the five female scientists Soyru, Barton, Akagi, Ikari, and Akagi which were responsible for the creation of the MAGI system under deputy commander Gendo Ikari. The stirring description of her makes little of the other women though its added curiously that four of the five women all suffered mysterious deaths. Asuka broke her pencil and actually left the room at the mention of supposadly two of them being a suicide.

"I sense Miss Soryu is sad." Karou said blinking. "Ikari-san do you know what is wrong with Rei-chan?"

"I guess she just feels more talkative now that she feels accepted amongst us." Shinji BSed. He watched Asuka go and decided she probably wanted to be alone. He got up and started packing up his laptop. He felt uncomfortable around Kaoru but for a different reason. He felt uncomfortable because he was feeling himself becoming too comfortable with her, as weird as that sounds.

He left the room and went to his locker. Kaoru followed him.

As Shinji went, Charlie spoke up "Hey Shinji do you think its weird that three pilots of the six had their parents be designers of the Magi? My mom of course was hit by a car a month after she completed her part. Touji your mom die mysteriously?"

"You shut the hell up about my mom Gajin!" Touji sneered at the man. "She was a biologist. She died in a housefire when the wiring went bad."

He then walked out and down the hallway door "Touche."

Karou said "I do not believe that nor do I believe you. I am a great believer in chi and mystical energy fields. Hers is not at all like it used to be. It was once cold and dead...but innocent....like Mr. Brody only less sexual. Now it is full of darkness."

Shinji turned to Charlie. "I have no idea what haapened to my mother, only that there was an accident at the lab and it was "strictly classified", I was never able to find out." he looked down at the floor and fe

 

Rei's apartment

James Brody stood in Rei's apartment as he heard the sound of the construction work that was being done elsewhere. She was treated like an animal, worse than an animal...a discarded tool that wasn't useful whenever not needed and here she was content with it because she'd been trapped in a life of agony. He had come here to meditate.

Why do you agonize?

A voice inside him spoke.

"Rei?" James blinked. "Because I care for you."

Why?

"I....sympathize with you're plight. It speaks to me more than other victems of the Second Impact do..." James blinked.

Why

James blinked as he saw then the sight of large amounts of tubing. He saw Rei floating inside the tubing, a little woman then alittle girl as Doctor Akagi and Gendo looked on. He then saw LCL around himself and spun around, seeing countless other James's floating in the distance.

"Because I know that we are the same...." James blinked as he picked up Commander Ikari's glasses and smashed them on the ground, stomping them.

"Good job James, you've deduced what was blatantly obvious all the time." Rei's Body spoke with the Doctor's voice. She was wearing a lab coat and holding a stun gun as she shocked him with it and sent him spiralling on the ground.

"Bi..tch.." James' muttered.

"When I cloned you from my husband's cells James I hadn't been aware that you would be quite as annoying as I suddenly remember him." Aoi Akagi said. "I want you to know I've contented myself with the fact you'll never love me as I wanted you to. It was always the Commander's dream to ressurect our significant others anyway. It is however still time for endgame. You are going to disable NERV headquarter's defenses."

"No!" James shouted.

Rei's body pulled out a small remote blinking. "This is a bomb attached to Unit-00's head. You'll do it...now. Now march."

James got up and closed his eyes....as all throughout Tokyo-3 the power started dying out.

Shinji was running hard when he noticed Charlie, Kaoru and Toji walking ahead. He slowed down and that's when Asuka caught up. She grabbed him from behind and he heard her giggling, GIGGLING!. He loved every minute.

They all turned at the sound of them laughing. "I see you two love birds are having fun." Charlie said witha big grin. But the fun was not to last, there communicators beeped an emergency signal all at the same time. Then they died as Kaoru noticed all the lights going out, signs, streetlamps, everything.

"I think we have a problem." Toji stated.

Charlie "You are just a master of words arn't you Touji."

Touji and Charlie it was disturbing acted more like brothers than they did mortal enemies, though they did that fine too. Hikari had actually agreed to go out with both of them on different nights thanks to Asuka's advice and neither was happy about it. Charlie especially since he knew he would have very little to compete against Touji in the long run.

Karou said "This is an ill omen for all of us. The spirits about us bespeak of an malign influence at work."

"I think we better get to Nerv. That was an emergency signal." Shinji said.

"And how do you propse us getting down there? It appears all the powers out." Asuka replied.

"The service ducts of course." Shinji looked in her direction. "We have no choice. What if an Angel attacks too? We're best used down there." he started walking in the direction of a rail car station.

Seele Headquarters

Commander Ikari's image dissapeared as another instead appeared in it's place of little Rei Ayanami.

"What..." Director Keele spoke first before he was cut off.

"I have returned you faithless murdering swine. Whomever completes Third Impact will become God. You and Ikari both wanted it for yourselves and denied me the chance to join in everlasting immortality. You will have no place in the new order to come..." Rei chuckled.

"YOU CANNOT ADVANCE THE TIME TABLE...." Keele shouted before she vanished. If the Angels were still alive when a human joined then all mankind would die in the process.....Akagi didn't care though.

"Should we prepare an N2 barrage on Tokyo-3?" Number 3 said.

"Let's see if Ikari can handle it now. We must trust the prophecy....." Keele wouldn't waste his chance to end his immortality, his curse.

Charlie lifted up his cell-phone. "You guys are so absolutely pathetic...."

He paused then as he looked at everyone "Okay, this is now officially weird. The Magi have just put up a jamming frequency over the entirety of Tokyo-3. They say they apologize for the inconveinance."

Karou says "I shall lead you through the ducts. I know Nerv's layout well."

"Uh uh....no way. I'm leader here." Asuka said starting off.

"Nerv is over this way...." Karou pointed behind her.

Shinji looked at Asuka who was staring daggers at Kaoru. "Do you think...?" she looked at him when he said that. "Most definately." she replied.

"What?" both Touji and Charlie said.

"We don't have time now. We have to get down there, now!" Shinji covered. "Kaoru, you say you know the layout?" she nodded. "Then let's go."

They opened the hatch and started crawling in. "I want Shinji behind me cause I know he won't look up my skirt like you two stooges!" she pointed at Charlie and Touji.

Shinji just smiled.

Karou's crystal necklaces flew as she ran towards the hatch while Asuka snarled. "You're going to pay for that one Ikari."

Charlie, Touji, and Shinji had no trouble opening the hatch.

Gendo Ikari's office

Gendo struggled with the machinery as he looked at Fuyutski "This was not natural.....I want you to go get James Brody. At gunpoint if necessary. We need also to get word to the other Magi to hack into the original system...Doctor Akagi will know."

It was then Gendo actually was horrofied in his look by the sight of the little girl standing at his front door. Gendo's bodyguard from Intell's head in her hands

 

OOC: I hope these collabs arn't making people feel left out. My friend and I are just possessed of a glut of free time right now.

BTW everything will turn out entirely all right anywho.....FOR THE TIME BEING HEHEH!

 

NERV HQ

Shinji ran through the hallways of NERV and found the entire place shut up tighter than a drum. The doors were locked and sealed shut with large amounts of complaining and trying to move out being done. Shinji saw a few were trying to pry open doors and the like but it was amazing how helpless everyone looked even as Commander Fuyutski took command of a technical crew and led the pilots downwards to the EVA unit room. "There's a old style oil plant built in if the MAGI ever failed, it'll take time to power up the EVAs but its our best hope. Good luck Lieutenant Ikari."

Through the maze like passages, Shinji eventually found his way by the sounds of gunshots and came to the sight of the massacre performed by Doctor Akagi and Unit-00 and 04 in the tanks as they were about to be loaded.....Ritsuko was screaming as apparently she was sinking in Unit-04's Entry plug, clutching her head with her brain charts going wild. Unit-00 was clutching its head in pain as Doctor Aoi Akagi simply stood smiling at the machine.

Shinji squeezed off a shot as the bullet buried itself into the tank, resulting in a stream of LCL shooting forward as Doctor Akagi turned around her machine gun and pinned him down in a hail of rapid fire.

"It's beautiful itsn't it Shinji?" she smiled

Shinji just lay there behind his cover. "You! You are the reason I don't have a mother, and neither does any of the other pilots! You BITCH!" he stood up and fired the gun again, his hand hurting from the recoil. He snapped back down as the thing returned fire.

He looked up at the consoles to see if he could stop what was happening but he wasn't allowed t learn how to operate the sustems due to classification so all he saw on the screens was jibberish. 'Damn.' he thought.

Aoi just laughed. "Silly boy, you can't stop me, I'll kill you and everyone else on this miserable planet, prophecy or no prophecy you are only human."

"Warning, Warning Type Blue field detected in the vicinity of Tokyo-3." the computers echoed.

"Ah I see, SEELE has sent one of it's pet angels to try and stop me.....a pity it will arrive far too late," Rei's body said. "Jammmmes?"

Shinji was suddenly grabbed from behind as James moved backwards and with a kick threw his friend forward, the gun going backwards.

Seele's Digital Dark Room

Director Keele paused as he looked at his compatriots. The Sixth Angel's arrival to speed up the timeline was not a choice easily made but the debate had convinced him.

One of their races would survive in this case.

Shinji propped himself up on his elbows, he looked up at his friend. "James...." he coughed, his side hurt where he had been kicked. "I must, or Rei will die." was all James said.

"If you don't stop this, no one will survive. She wants Third Impact!" James had retrieved the gun and was now pointing it at Shinji. "I'm sorry."

Shinji stood up slowly so as not to make any sudden movements and have a bullit put into his body. "If I have to James...."

"There's nothing you can do." Akagi said with a mischievious grin.

James then shot the controls nearby as suddenly Doctor Akagi stopped screaming. Clutching her knees she muttered "Mother... Rei.....Gendo.... Rei...mother...father... I'm sorry....I'm sorry...I'm wicked, I'm evil. I'm bad...I'm stupid...mother...father....Shinji...Misato"

Rei shook her head "I should have known you didn't have the stomach for this James. Mama's little angel...."

It was then that Unit-00 smashed her hand through the windows as the entire place filled with LCL and James was grabbed while Doctor Akagi ran up Unit-00's arm, entering into the Dummy Plug in the back before Shinji could get his gun again.

The Machine then began smashing through floors to Central Dogma.

"Rei...." James said.

"Turn the power back on! I need to tell the others to get their Evas moving!" Shinj said.

"I't not that simple, it takes time to bring everything back online." James replied.

Shinji stood outside Rei and James' hospital room. Two guards flanked it but he had been given clearance to see them. His debriefing had been a little brutal and he was ordered not to discuss what had happened in that room with anyone.

He knocked on the door and heard James respond. "Come in."

On the inside, Rei was nuzzled close to James, her face puffy from tears. James had still his rather strange new look about him and a pair of thick shades on, his throat was bruised from someone trying to strangle him. The hospital room was empty save for the look of the Geo-front outside of it provided by the window.

Shinji gave them both a smile. "How you two doing?"

"We've been better." James said.

Shinji sat down in a chair. "Rei, I'm glad your back."

"I am glad to be in my own body again Ikari," she says then coughing out some LCL. "I do not ever want to go back down there." it was a statement about want, perhaps the first she'd ever given

"I have some questions......If you feel like answering somethings right now? You both seem to know a lot about the more shadier things going on." he asked.

James looked at him.

James "I can tell you what I know but I'm just...James now....its alot of emptiness up here now that my connections been disabled."

"I obey...Ikari." she said, actually repulsed at something she remembered now.

"Don't obey Re," he said with the whisp of a smile on his face, "want to tell me, I'm your friend."

"I...want to tell you." she said, the same look on her face.

"What was that mural on the wall down there and why were the three of us on it? Also, how the hell did you do what you did?" he said all in a rush.

"Unfortunately the answer I can give is.....I have not the slightest idea though I can read Enochian, I don't remember much of it and they just blasted the one below. Also do what?" James said.

"It is the writings of the Cult of the All-Seeing, they found the Geo-Front." Rei said. "Commander Ikari told me about them."

"So what it's a prophecy or something, Akagi said something about it." he looked thoughtful for a moment.

"What do you mean do what? From what I saw you, YOU! Picked Unit-00 up and caused us to win this whole thing. And during the whole incident you changed to look the way you do now."

"According to legend it was founded two thousand years ago when its leader was dictated the truth by the Archangel Gabriel. Commander Ikari said it is also what is currently called SEELE," Rei says. "As for prophecy itself I do not know only that Commander Ikari is number 13 on their board of 13."

James says "I don't remember anything after being thrown down. Only...rage....hatred....a desire to kill. The name...Lilith....and then nothing."

Shinji realised he was just going to get more questions than answers. "When are you two allowed out?"

"In a couple of days, why?" James asked.

"Cause I want the two of you to come over for dinner, call it a double date." he said beaming.

James looks at Rei as she looks at her hands and then at the bruises on his neck. "I don't think she's...."

"I would like that.....I do not like eating meat though," she says. She leans into his arms and he puts his arm around her.

It was then there was a knock at the door.

"Do you want me to go?" Shinji asked.

"No, stay Ikari." Rei put in quickly.

"Ok. What about your guest.?" he inquired.

"Come in." James said.

Misato popped her head in, a great big grin on her face. "Hi, I brought some snacks for you." she produced a bag full of treats."

"Thank you." Rei said as the bag was placed on the bed.

"I won't probably eat for a weak LCL is strangely filling." James said

Misato then wrapped all of them in a hug and cried "I WAS SO WORRIED ABOUT YOU. By the way here's your mail. A letter for each of you from the United Nations Organization Directors' board and a personal letter from them." she frowned "I read mine, its not good news but we're going to ignore that tonight I can tell you...."

She then cuddled rei again to her

 

OOC: Wow, just wow! Seriously, I like the twists and plot development and what-not. Heh, kind of dwarfs my own posts.

Louis didn't know exactly what happened the night of the black out but the next day NERV HQ was a wreck and several people were being wheeled out into ambulances in body bags and still others were being rushed out to the ambulances alive. Among them was Commander Ikari. Eventually, he found Sara and asked "What's going on? Who did all this, was it terrorists?"

 

OOC: Good news! I hope more players will be joining soon! I've sent some invitations to a few more folk...abet not NEARLY as prolific as my friend and I have been. Sorry its been a slow weekend.

The aftermath

Doctor Ritusuko Akagi returned to duty a week later after the incident that was played off as a terrorist breaking into NERV Headquarters and hijacking Unit-00. The difference in Ritsuko's behavior was considerable as she was always seemingly on the verge of absolute panic yet simultaneously trying to reassure everyone that she was fine. Curiously the Doctor actually broke down in front of Rei crying into her dress and apologizing before having to be led off by security. Doctor Serena Barton,` the daughter of the late Doctor Linda Barton whom was Doctor Masato Katsuragi's student on S2 theory was filling most of her duties.

Rei Ayanami meanwhile was moved by Doctor Akagi's request and others moved from her apartment to more clean quarters, monitored by NERV personel as otherwise Rei would not maintain its sanity (as in cleanliness) though she oddly seemed to be getting better. Its a bit of a project Misato takes even though most of the other personel are afraid of her to actually help. Those whom helped out often found it disturbing but Rei while bewildered by it and alittle frightened by so many people eventually seemed to like it. Shinji also became aware that his father visited Rei on average twice a week and did not enjoy having to be around people when he did so.

The original MAGI unit was retooled and rewritten in what was not going to help the United Nations overview of the project as it costs roughly ten times the cost of simply building a new one. Not to mention creating the new Unit-00B which required from six months to a year at present estimates. Add in that with the fact something called the "Dummy Plug System" was going to be installed in systems due to direct response to the troubles with the Evas.

Commander Ikari who only took a day off from work at the insistance of his doctors simply ignored the UN coming investigation and carried on with business with the arrival of Unit-06 in one week. The Captured Angel occupying much of his time.

NERV HQ

Serena Barton surveyed the S2 Engine being removed from the Spider like being designated the Sixth Angel Matariel even as the creature wailed in agony from the experimentation done upon it. The evidence was overwhelming that aside from the S2 engines and their bizzare form, Angels were no different biologically than humans. With the captured S2 engine able to be cloned there was now the possibility of outfitting all the EVA units with it and giving them a limitless source of power to draw from, unencumbered by the massive power needed by the EVA series.

"Put it out of its misery," Gendo Ikari then told her unexpectedly. It was a decision that stunned her as there was much to be learned from an angel in captivity, not to mention they hadn't even tried communicating with it.

"Do it," Tabris the Angel of Free will said wearing Commander Ikari's face. It would cause quite a stir but his brother deserved rest.

Outside Misato's apartment

James and Rei were both disturbed by the dreams they had of one another, alternatively they were passionate and violent. The intensity of emotion that assaulted both whom were naturally reppressive, introverted, and quiet by nature....not to mention nonviolently gentle shook them deeply. Yet when they looked upon each other they were also filled with comfort and joy, not to mention relief at the other's presence....it was magnetism of a most unnatural sort that drew them together and most natural.

Shinji opened the door and went bug eyed at the sight of both of them. "Come in." he said after a long pause. When he turned to go back into the appartment he seemed to get his voice back. "Umm, I'm afraid suppers been canceled. Misato burned everything edible in the house."

"I still have lots of instant Ramen." she called from the living room.

"Yeah, everything edible. So how do you two feel about going out to eat?" Shinji asked.

Rei said "Uhhh..." trying to speak to Shinji "That...would...be...." This was very uncomfortable clothing. Rather refreshingly cool though.

She looked at James.

"I think so." he says "Please."

Shinji smiled. "Asuka, we're going out."

They could all hear her cry of delight at not having to eat the instant junk. She came out wearing a stunning red dress. "How about we go out ice skating? They have that new indoor rink that just opened?"

"I love ice skating!" Rei then said unexpectedly. James looked at her. "I mean...I have done it before and found it enjoyable."

It was one of the many activities she had done with the Commander and the one she found pleasing the most. She thought then to say something pleasing to Pilot Soyru "You...look...well."

"I...am...not very adept lately in moving but I'm sure it will be wonderful." James smiled to say.

Misato stepped out, dripping in a towel "Remember! Keep your cell phones on in case of an emergency and if there's any hanky panky going on then I want details!" she grabbed a beer for the shower and stepped back in the bathroom.

"Whack," Pen-Pen said then walking out in a scraf around his neck and his own iceskates. <Let me out of this house too. That woman is driving me batty>

"That bird frightens me sometime," Asuka muttered, wondering how he knew.

"Whack whack wark," James said to him as he picked him up. <I can imagine. Chess later?>

"Whark!" <certainly> Pen Pen said.

"I like chess," Rei said.

Asuka saw Rei in her dress. "That looks...good on you Rei." she said with a large smile splitting her face. "Let's go Shinji!" She said.

He grabbed his pair of hockey skates and they all left. When they got there he was leaning on the boards and watched Asuka skate around on the rink. She was very graceful on skates. He hadn't skated very much and was afraid he wqas going to make an ass of himself. She skated over to him. "C'mon Shinji, I want to skate with you!" she snickered. She knew very well he couldn't skate that well.

She leaned over the boards and kissed him. Passionately. "Come out and you can have mooore." she teased as she skated away.

"I mislike her using sexual appetite as a means of inducing Shinji to overcome her fears," Rei got on her iceskates, the attire...slightly odd in the place but Rei feeling no discomfort.

"Psycological inducements are always essentially about food or sex or other survival of the species activities," James said as he walked and immediately fell over.

Rei was however grace on the ice and spun around extremely well and wearing the costume from her previous times here was actually radiant. She might even go to the Olympics some day.

"Thank you Pen-Pen," James said following the penguin by tugging on his scarf like training wheels.

Shinji took a few careful steps out onto the ice and quickly grabbed the boards as he almost fell. He pulled himself back up and watched as Asuka came back for another pass. "Here let me help." she took his hand and led him out further onto the ice. "See it's not so bad." she said quietly.

Shinji just held on and tried to learn. He was starting to get the hang of it. "Thank you Asuka."

"No problem my Baka." she grinned. "I like the fact that I'm finally able to help you, instead of it always being the other

Doctor Serena "Sarah" Barton looked up as she swept away some of the glass and blood muttering about of all the stupid times to cut cleaning budget. She looked then up to Captain Louis "You wouldn't believe me if I told you!"

Lieutenant Shigeru Aoba whom still tried his best to look like an eighties rock star said while he sipped his coffee "Truth be told I'm not sure what the hell happened and I was here!"

He wagged a finger. "Maya knows but its classified, Ritsuko knows and she's completely out of it, the Commanders know but you know how they are. The only one who knows who might be willing to talk is Captain Katusuragi."

Some complicated computer equipment that had been completely riddled with bullets was being loaded by Lieutenant Makoto who'd stopped to salute the captain....it was weird but were these the only three guys that worked here?

"All the power went out in Tokyo-3, all the doors locked, and the MAGI started going crazy is what we know. We have to run the things at minimal operation now until we get em replaced since they are thoroughly FUBARed now..."

Maya looked up as she lifted her dustpan. "Fubar?"

"****** up beyond all repair. At some point an angel attacked and someone was in here blowing away the Night-shift technicians. Shot the Commander and killed at least one security guard too. THEN Unit-00 went crazy...AGAIN...and attacked Heaven's Gate. This is where it gets weird believe or not since a bunch of SEELE's Special All-Environment Commando Units have been down there all day tearing up pieces of the walls and carting em up, alot of em had writing on them. They're destroying them though," Makoto said.

Serena looks distinctly nervous at that particular revelation than back at the Captain "In any case Unit-00s been destroyed and Pilot-Rei was recovered unharmed..."

"And back to being her usual ghoulish self I might add," Aoba muttered. "This was the last straw though. The UN announced a special commision to investigate NERV...we've all got packages for summons to Tokyo-2 and then New York to give our testimony. I swear we're all be lucky if we're just court martialled."

Louis Woods found himself also presented one of the summons, he'd have to answer his professional military opinion on whether the pilots and leadership of NERV were competent in the course of their duties.

Though not soon as he'd left the hall was he cornered by Serena whom gave him a passionate kiss and a slip of paper for a later date that evening.

As the alarms blared, Serena banged her head against the computer screen. "Yes...officially we are doomed in the hearing."

Strangely Commander Ikari was gone and instead little Karou was there instead "Do you not think that it is more advisable to worry about the extermination of your species in this situation than the termination of your economic employment?"

"Not particularly." Serena muttered as she picked up her cell phone and dialled rapidly "Okay we need someone to get here immediately whose a qualified sprinter and completely insane. I've got a plan."

Karou knew this would be the end of the human race, nothing would stop Matarael from completing ascension of the Angels to Ketra (Godhead). Why did he not feel better about humanity's hubris destroying them even as he witnessed his brother regenerate?

"What about the humans below inbetween ?" Karou asked upwards.

"Are you religious?" Serena said.

It has already been mentioned about the boards of my new job being an RPG-*DEVELOPER* with the Seraphim Guard corporation (www.seraphimguard.com also at the bottom of my posts) which publishes the anime RPG Heart Quest, a game I fully endorse I might add. Well I've got some great news that we've just released a book related to Mecha and based on Evangelion!

Its only an ebook now but all we need is to sell alittle under a 100 copies and we'll be able to publish the paperback version. Its really good too I must say. Its mostly based on how to create mecha (in the rules not really sadly), piloting mecha and its psychological effects, and an examination of the genre. It pays especially large homage to Asuka from Evangelion as its main character is named after her with her influence throughout the book.

NERV Headquarters

Cain-Unit-00 screamed and howled in its pen as the demonic six things were kept together in a pit and administered routine electrical shocks into their brains. The Cain Units had been transferred from the United States of America only yesterday for being outfitted with improved computer control units. The creatures did not require what normal Evangelion units did in LCL fluid baths, food, and enormous amounts of electricity but instead were powered by internal nuclear generators along with an intravenous drip of nutrient enriched blood. They also required a steady stream of violent and sexual imagery to be placed inside their brains to keep them satisfied with their existence.

Serena Barton was personally horrofied by the things even though she had been involved in their construction. The Cain-Units contained Human souls like the Evangelions but General Barton, her father had chosen instead of loving mothers to power their cores....the souls of rapists, psychotics, and in one case a pedophile serial killer.

"If they were involved in Insturmentality..." Serena muttered, not even wanting to begin the thoughts behind it. "Maya take care of this...alright."

The Seele-Dummy Plug system was installed in the Cain-Units except for Mayas whom was the leader of the group. Serena saluted the courage of the girl even as she had already been evaluated for nightmares several times....the pedophile was after all in Unit-01

Serena then locked down the gateways of NERV headquarters as she opened the pen rooftop and the creatures began climbing rapidly like ants up the side of the walls and down through the halls as the smell of the Angel was transmitted to their brains to destroy.

The Hallways

The low yield, high power N*2 mine handed Captain Woods was placed downwards as the plan for dealing with the angel was two fold. They would be using it to detonate underneath the Angel in Hangar Unit- 15 which was farthest from the actual part of the Base as Woods loaded up Pilot Barton and his companion onto his ship and took off.

It was simple and elegant in its simplicity if not for the fact it was a frickin Angel.

Charlie ran in then with the little girl as Captain Woods immediately grabbed them both and shoved him into his Elohim fighter as he began powering it up. The Angel smashed through the walls and started for him even as the THINGS then smashed through the floor and started grabbing the legs of the thing and tearing it limb from limb.

Karou meanwhile hid behind some drums, wondering if Matarael would ever forgive him what he had done to him.

NERV HQ

"How are they hurting the Angel?" Misato stared.

"I know things about our pilots that you do not Captain Katsuragi. Suffice to say Matarael's AT field has been neutralized and it is time to rid ourselves of the CAIN-Units and the threat they pose to NERV," Commander Ikari did not wait for Captain Louis to take off but the man's vehicle nevertheless did escape the blast radius as he exploded one of the highly illegal weapons to rid himself of General Barton's pet project.

Fuyutski's objection "BUT THE CHILDR..." and dash to stop the Commander was stopped by his looking at the screen to see all Six CAIN-Units intact. "My god, they have AT-Fields too."

"The Angel has been destroyed sir....Captain Louis's bomb finished what the Cain Units hadn't.....all the personel evacuating were destroyed though. The Cain Units killed them before you could," Makoto said upwards to the Commander.

Commander Ikari knew then he had been set up. He had just proven the machines were superior to the EVAs and covered any evidence that might prove otherwise.

"Do not speak to me in such a tone. I need to make some holocalls. I'll be in my office. Promote the Captain to Major for his actions and put him up for the Bronze

 

Shinji stood outside James door, he had gotten a call earlier that day to come over as soon as possible. He had heard about the victory over the latest Angel and was glad, glad for the fact that they could enjoy an evening out by themselves. He had worn something different today, instead of his usual clothes he had worn scuffed up jeans and a loose t-shirt.

He knocked on the door tentatively.

"Boo!" Asuka said sneaking up behind Shinji as he jumped. Hikari was around the door and she gave her a wave to leave. It had been practically Hell at school today listening to her go on and on about how Charlie had saved her life from the vicious forces of the Angels. Asuka was half certain Hikari thought the Hosts of Heaven had attacked from her description. "Hehe, your so cute when your scared."

"Soyru." Rei said behind Asuka as she let out a scream and spun around "Don't DO that!"

Shinji snickered, "Now you know how it feels." he grabbed her ass when she was turned around. She felw a few feet into the air.

"Ikari! Don't DO that!" she cursed.

The door opened slightly and a very disheveled James was peering out at them. "Care to come in?"

"Yeah that's why we're here isn't it?" Asuka sarcastically said. As they were coming in the door she pinched his ass and stuck out her tongue.

James's home was decorated in three distinct fashions. 20-something Bachelor with a lot of Star Wars materials, roleplaying games, and a poster of some famous Idol rockers whom had gone from boyhood crushes to sex symbols-oddly also a photo of Misato. Next was a large amount of Country and Western materials with a few MECHA models and a picture of a rather large family. The third section where James walked out of looked like it was capable of sending its own satelite into orbit.

"Good evening friends." he said taking a moment to lock the door behind them with an advanced lock and sit them down in the center of the room where he'd lit candles, turning off the electric lights. "You'll forgive me but the jamming system I designed knocks out power."

"Jamming system?" Shinji asked.

"Oh yes, so we aren't overheard by our 'watchers'." he replied.

Shinji sat down and found his leg pressed against Asuka's who had sat down beside him. She lay her hand on his leg. He had noticed since they had started dating that she was starved for physical contact. She had spent so many years trying to distance herself. When she had finally let him in she wanted to always be around him, touching him in some way or another. He wasn't complaining but he could see where it was going and he wasn't sure if he wanted to "do it" just yet.

"So what do you have to tell us James?" he asked.

Rei said. "This is an interesting contrast. I shall look for what to incorporate into my own home."

Rei had actually made her first alteration to her home in choosing to have it be the color blue...after being asked by James to choose one. He had taken over basic cleaning of the house and she'd actually bothered a few times to do some herself. It was still difficult for her though and sometimes Shinji as the contrast with the old rei grew wondered if Rei didn't want to die for some reason.

James paused a moment "Both Rei and I have been working day and night together on this project. Our findings are.....perhaps unsettling."

Rei sat down beside James as she looked at Asuka and Asuka got extremely uncomfortable. Unaware to Asuka Rei saw as angels did, the souls of human beings.

"The Book of Ketra first of all isn't a religious text. It was written by rabbis yes and deals with Angels and existence yes. However it is in a fact a scientiffic and historical treatise that is being articulated in a manner as those in the past would looking in onto the future."

"Through the mediums of beings who operate on a different frequency of the space/time continium," Rei said. "Doctor Akagi suggests we will soon be encountering angels like them." Rei paused, she wanted to kill the woman yet did not know how to reconcile also her desire to

 

OOC: Sorry, I had a baddddd day and needed some serious cheering up.

Train Station

Misato had called Kensuke, Charlie, and Touji to try to talk Shinji out of leaving but it had gone badly. All three had decided to gang up on Asuka being the root of Shinji's problems and had basically called her every name under the sun with their feelings expressed being that she had used Shinji like a kleenex in order to steal his mandhood and thus ability to pilot EVA away.

Shinji had been dropped off by the taxi and was starring at the train platform. All of his stuff had been shipped out earlier in the morning and he had just a bag of clothes and personal effects slung over his shoulder. After Kensuke and the rest had phoned him and he had basically given them they hadn't shown up. He didn't care, he had shut himself up tighter than he had before.

The cab sped off and he walked to the train platform.

It was odd that in fact there was no one at the train station whatsoever......he noticed also that the power lines for the region were down.

A man was hurredly putting away all of his possessions in a cart from his office as he paused to look at the kid before him "Hey are you crazy? Didn't you hear the sirens that were going off ten minutes ago? An Angel is attacking!"

He looked back towards the city. He could hear them now. There was a moment, a small moment when he felt like dropping his bag and running for the nearest NERV car that would get him to his Eva. But it passed rather quickly and he sat down on the edge of the platform and swung his legs out and started to wait for either third impact or if the other pilots could finish it off in time, the power to be restored and the train to come to take him home.

Zeruel the Seventh Angel was perhaps their strongest warrior and moved with resolutness through Tokyo-3 towards his quarry of conquering the human beings whom had imprisoned their leader Adam. It did not matter to the Angel that his father was imprisoned, instead he came to destroy the Human Race which offended him with their sinful ways. He was disgusted even more by the mockery they had made of the Angel form with the Evangelion units that would take great pleasure in destroying before finishing his enemy.
"DIiiieee!" Touji and Charlie screamed in Unison as they attacked the Angel simultaneously but suddenly found their units wrapped together in some kind of weird ribbon that spun around them as the Angel then severed off two arms that went flying across the city, visible for miles. Strangely then the S2 engine of the Angel glowed and both pilots screamed as their units were electrocuted and sent spiralling to the ground.
'Two down...' Zeruel spoke as he then decapitated the units, leaving the fleshlings alive as they had been disconnected seconds before...for now.

Shinji was oblivious to this. He felt so sick of Tokyo-3 now and everyone he had associated while here, well all except Asuka and the others. But she had shut him out, and she didn't care what happened to him now. She hadn't even come out of her room at Misato's call to see Shinji off. He was not happy with her or himself. 'As soon as I'm back where I started before this whole thing began I can start a normal life.' he thought to himself.

He was looking one way down the track and didn't see Kaoru watching him from the shadow of the Train Station.

Shinji was stunned to see off in the distance the sight of Unit-02 and Unit-04 a gigantic yellow Eva that shown like gold in its armor. The Angel Shinji then saw release terrible energy rays behind it as its strange ribbons shot forth and wrapped around military vehicles and flight units, causing them to detonate in horrofic explosions. Unit-04 began hurling a spear when the Angel's central energy beam blasted into its chest and James's unit was thrown back nearly half a mile before it slammed into a mountain side and the angel actually ripped a skyscrapper up out of the ground and hurled it onto the Unit...leaving Asuka alone

 

Louis was almost certain that this was the end. The Angel did do more damage than any other had previously after all. From the cockpit of his fighter would he see the end of the world were his thoughts. Better that than any other way. Then Shinji's Eva came to bear on the Angel. If there is a God, it is him. A strange thought that Louis wasn't entirely sure came from his own mind. He forgot about the piloting he was supposed to be doing and merely watched the Eva eat it with his fighter hovering in mid-air.

 

NERV HQ

The battle watched by the forces of NERV was unlike any other that had actually occurred before as the S*2 engine processed Zeruel's "meat" in order to power it so that it kept power for nearly an hour's time.....finally culminating in the Evangelion smashing the spherical gemstone that was the recepictle for the Angel's lifeforce with a single blow...and powering down.

Over half of NERV's staff operating that day had been killed with 90% of its military forces, four Evangelions would require massive regeneration treatments that would take weeks if not months, and the base itself was devastated.

the next day

large tow vehicals began to pull the badly damaged evas back to hq.. fire trucks sprayed the area clean of the blood.. it was a mess.
there were craters dug into the ground everywhere. a tent was set up in one of the craters.

misato: these clean up operations are eating nervs cash fast.. were so underfunded.

ritsuko: speaking of under fundded, look at this.

she held up yet another news paper.

"jackalone to replace evangelion units! and nerv!"

misato: oh my god...

ritsuko: yup. were invited. mainly to be mocked.

misato: so they really are going to shut down nerv.. we should go anyway.. see if we should get new jobs there.

ritsuko: misato, i expected better from you.. nerv will survive. trust me.. "jackalone includes a nuclear reacter which garentes 150 days of service"... somethings bound to go wrong

Misato: Besides it has a really stupid name anyway doesn't it!? jackalone??

Ritsuko: Jackalone is a front company for the US government Misato just like NERV funnels its money from SEELE's outside funding sources to keep public outcry down. They're just covering up for the Cain-Units which will I'm sure be unveiled there too.

Misato: Dangit! What about the inquiry, we still have a chance there?

Ritsuko: After this? I wouldn't count on it. Even if we can doctor the books regarding the N*2 mine smuggling there's the issues of causalties and Unit-00. Not to mention....THAT...

She gestured to Unit-01 which had grown a pair of metallic wings and mutated rather horrofically to becoming a monstrous beast as much as a EVA. The inhuman thing was currently being lifted with two dozen helicopters for transport back to the pens.

Ritsuko: In any case we better get packed for travel. Want to share a room?

Misato: As long as its not a jail cell

ritsuko: 3 days

Fuyutski: Pilot Nagisa still hasn't been found yet. Most are speculating that she was killed in the attack.

Gendoi: I suspect something far more sinsiter but the pilot is immaterial at present. Any status on Unit-01

Fuyutski: We don't even know where to begin to speculate what happened to it or what it can do now.

Gendo: Indeed...interesting.

It was then that the door fell off from Ikari's wall as Kaji Ryo walked in

Inside Unit-01's entry plug

Shinji only became aware of himself an hour later when his vision started to unblur and he realized that the piloting was over. He had the taste of raw meat in his mouth and he was oddly full as he watched the LCL drip out with the door opening to the sight of what Unit-01 had become. The thing had huge black wings of metal out its side and gigantic tentacles around it's mouth with seven eyes now that each glowed red save the central one which was all too human. The unit was wrapped in bandaged and blood poured from its several cuts.

"Mother...." he said softly as he climbed out. He saw the rescue teams scurrying every which way and took in the carnage. He had caused a lot of this.

He finally became aware that he was cordoned off by security tape and they were treating it as a quarantine. He stepped toward the boundary and a large military man with a sub machine gun slung over his shoulder. Despite his intimidating size he appeared frightened of Shinji. "Sorry, but you can't leave. They have to run some tests."

Shinji looked at the gun and thought about bolting for Unit-02 which was about a hundred yards away and he thought better of it. He sat down on the scorched grass and waited.

*tunk tunk tunk* Charlie made the sound on his entry plug as the pilot with a broken arm said as he walked upwards to Shinji. "Heya."

Shinji looked to see Charlie, he turned back looking out over the geofront but kept quiet. "Okay, silent treatment, I understand." Charlie muttered as he sat down beside him.

He looked at Shinji who was starring hard at Unit-02. "She's alright partner, you saved her before that dang blasted Angel coueld do her in." he patted Shinji on the shoulder.

Shinji got up and moved away. "Okay...alone time."

Charlie shrugged "Well just wanted to say thanks.....Touji is getting surgey on his eyes right now and James has a pictured lung and broken bones all over his body. No one knows where Karou is and everyone assumes she's dead. Rei and Asuka are the only fine ones right now."

He paused "May the Force be with ya pal."

He then looked up at Unit-01 raising a lighter to it "I salute you Mighty Cthulhu!" before wobbling off

Shinji wanted to cross that line and run over to Unit-02. "Is she alright?" he asked the guard finally. "I mean is she out of her unit or..?"

"She will be fine. But you know I can't let you go over there, we have to keep these areas quarantined." he replied.

He looked back at Charlie who was slowly walking away. "Charlie."

Charlie paused and said "I'll go fetch her pal. That is if she's speaking to you. Man you kicked ass today."

He looked over "Looks like I won't have to....speak of the devil."

Rei helped Pilot Soyru walk over as Asuka fell on her knees before Shinji "Okay thanks Wondergirl. I'll forgive you for earlier after this and beating you senseless."

The blue haired girl then looked up at Unit One whose single eye then darted towards Rei and eyelid shut.

Charlie "Wow, that's cool. I think we should leave these two alone.....just ignore the guards Shinji. I know I do."

Shinji was quiet for a long time as both Charlie and Rei left. Asuka stayed on her knees, she wasn't even looking at him. "Do you still want me to leave you alone?" he asked quietly.

"Ahem." one of the guards said as he cocked his gun.

Ritsuko walked by "Oh just let them go. If he's actually infected with something we're all going to die because Unit-01s blood is splattered over everything."

"Wow, I can't believe I get to be on a real Battle-Cruiser!" Kensuke said as he filmed everything in sight.

"You and Hikari were selected by your class to observe the NERV proceedings, it shouldn't be too surprising." Misato said frowning with the two ever present MPs behind her. She also knew both Hikari and Kensuke were the next candidates for replacing Karou and both needed to be tested at NERV-USA for their potential of piloting. Misato personally had her money on Hikari which royally would upset him.

"This is awesome Kaji! We get to spend the next week here? Way cool!" Asuka said happily as the other ships with the Units followed in a massive armada escort.

James looked the worst of them even though Touji had to wear heavy glasses for a couple of weeks as his eyes healed. He was in a wheelchair and had to have an attendent by him, usually Doctor Akagi, as he nevertheless worked a Super-labtop constantly working on...something.
